Check It Out!, with Dr. Steve Brule, John C. Reilly is brilliant comedic actor who is just in another league over Tim and Eric.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Frasier are really the only ones I can think of.

Parks and Recreation started its development as The Office spinoff but I'm not sure that counts. Probably not.

Definitely Better Call Saul. I just enjoy the pacing and tone so much more.

And if it counts, American Dad.

Starship troopers is basically a bug middle finger to the source material, and is better off because of it

Frasier
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Pinky & the Brain
Blackadder II (Does that count as they're descendants of the the characters from the 1st series?)

I felt over time that BPRD became a better book than Hellboy.

To the extent where it became clear that Hellboy had morphed into the side series and BPRD was where the main storyline was

Do Star Trek shows count as spin offs? Aren't they more continuations?

Probably difficult to claim 'better', but I loved both - Laverne and Shirley and Mork & Mindy both spin-offs from Happy Days

The same way that Breaking Bad has better cinematography, is better directed, framed and plotted out compared to other contemporary greats, Better Call Saul feels a step above its elder, even if by its nature in BCS we won't get the same pulp fiction/noir-western highs of Breaking Bad. We won't get the same action, but I think the characters will be much much deeper, and ensuing drama has been poignant.

Angel is better than Buffy, maybe 'cause it resonates more as the metaphor of adulthood, whereas Buffy is the metaphor of high school into young adulthood. And the only reason people call those specific seasons of each show "bad" is because they take the characters to their lowest points, so I never agreed that it was poorly done.

I thought The Lone Gunmen, though short lived, could have been truly great. It was extremely fun and I loved the characters, by its very nature it could never touch the scope of The X-Files, yet I thought it had more heart and the more earnest characters.

That first season of Batman Beyond was quite something.

I'm gonna echo the DS9 mentions. Trek TOS has its charm but is very uneven and I've always struggled to get past how ugly TNG looks. Plus those first two seasons are horrendous.

The Super Sons are better than their dads.
I prefer Mega Man Zero to OG Mega Man and X but I wouldn't say it's necessarily superior. It depends on what you're looking for.
Batman: The Animated Series
That's an adaptation, not a spin-off.

Korra, Fraiser, and Angel. To be clear on that last one, though, Buffy was great when it was great but towards the end of both shows I thought Angel was the stronger of the two by far. Better Call Saul is better in its own way. I like that it's not so dark and depressing that my wife will watch it with me. Daria is also way better than Beavis and Butthead.

Better Call Saul is the only one that I feel comes close but there BB is clearly the better show.
I'm just at season 5 of my re-watch of BB whilst I was waiting for season 4 of BCS and yup, BB is just incredible from start to finish. I really like BCS though and season 4 looks like it could be the best yet.

I found most of the spin offs from Sandman better than Sandman.
Especially the Death mini series.

Actually comics are full of this, most great characters guest star or something before getting their own titles.

Is Fallout New Vegas considered a spin off?

Clone Wars is better than any of the Star Wars movies, but it's specifically better than the prequels - the gap is stupidly huge.

At points I'd say Rebels eclipses the movies, too. The Filoni-verse in general is peak Star Wars.

I liked the first season of Legend of Korra a bunch.

A more recent example would be Sword Art Online Alternative, which aired this past summer. I hated most of SAO, but everything about the new series I love. The characters, the fights, everything is a step up from the original series, and it's a completely separate story line to boot, with only passing references to the characters from the first 3 arcs.

I love Better Call Saul, but feel there is a TON of recency bias with those who feel it's better than Breaking Bad. My answer would be Frasier

I preferred Count Duckula to Danger Mouse

And for that matter, I preferred Victor & Hugo to Count Duckula

Edit...

Other examples:

Xena > Hercules

Newman & Baddiel > The Mary Whitehouse Experience

Fingermouse > Fingerbobs
