Is the Switch even more powerful than a PS3? Im not even sure it is, let alone be anywhere close to a PS4.

ERA went over this like a million times and the answer has alwasy been yes, sensibly more powerful, with a more modern and better architecture on top of that.

They didn't change the Switch in the last 18 months so the answer is still the same.

The graphics would have to be downgraded so much it'd go from Horizon ZD to Horizon 2D

edit: motherfucker, beaten :(

I assume (desperately hope) you are being sarcastic?

If not the answer is a definitive yes. There are definitely some scenarios where PS3's CPU outperforms the Switches but there those same scenarios it outperforms the PS4's CPU. The GPU isn't even in the same league and the Switch has 8x the RAM on top of the RAM being faster.

Breath of the Wild is a WiiU game XD it's not the same
The point was that HZD taxes the system visually as opposed to having a CPU heavy physics engine. BOTW on the other hand individually tracks every arrow fired, they are affected by wind speed and direction, gravity, and weather. You can go find them and reclaim them if you can figure out where they landed.

HZD with reduced resolution (checkerboarding), textures, and post processing effects should be able to run decently on Switch.

In theory I'd love to see it because ports like that are fascinating.

But, they should use their skills to port a good game, instead.

I feel like Ubisoft's Milan office has shown the most promise. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a game that I can show to almost anyone, and it will impress them, visually. I took so many damn screenshots while I was playing. The Snowdrop engine compliments the Switch's spec beautifully, and those developers showed us what talent, hard work, and a lot of polish can do on the Switch!

This right here. Starlink gameplay from E3 looks stunning -- can't wait to see how that one turns out.

Also, the people in here questioning whether Switch is "more powerful than PS3" and saying that DOOM "barely runs" on the platform. Am I on the GameFAQs forum?

Fun fact: Virtuos is doing Starlink on Switch.

Honestly Virtuos doing The Division 2 on Switch feels really doable at this point.

Eh, no doubt they could, but a very large part of its visual identity, vital for something that looks as visually and artistically pheonomenal as horizon would be lost.I mean the level of detail and care that was put into the beasts and dinos in the game would be massively pared back, having a blurry, low textured, slightly chunkified thunderjaw fill my tv will just sour me in the game. One look at wolf 2 df breakdown for the switch on my iPad makes me not that impressed with its hardware.

HZD is one of those rare games I've played where the artistry gets enhanced by the sheer graphical effects and detail on display, rather then the other way around.

I honestly didnt know. Seeing how the WiiU wasn't even decisevly more powerful than the Xbox 360 even though it was 7 years later or the Wii not being more powerful than the OG Xbox I had my reasons to doubt the Switch (a portable console, mind you) could be more powerful than last gen consoles.

Happy to learn that it is.

People in here bitching about the quality of the Doom port but I'm playing through it and I am having a blast. Game feels super smooth and that added motion control makes it even better.

Considering Doom barely runs on the thing this has no chance at all. I don't even think they could downgrade it enough to get it running.
I seem to recall the fellas at Digital Foundry calling it technical wizardry. Funny that those fellas, experts in the field of performance were quite impressed with how well it ran on Switch...while you, someone I wouldn't recognize from a hole in the wall, claims it "barely runs".

I wonder who I'm gonna believe on this one. You know, plus the fact that I have DOOM on PS4, PC,and Switch and Switch is the only version I still play...and I personally find it pretty impressive.

Now to be perfectly clear, nobody is arguing DOOM in Switch isn't the worst of the bunch, but even at its worst it looks better than 90% of the games on Switch to date. And it was Panic Button's very first attempt at something like it....there skills are only going to improve as they move forward.

I just thought I would point out that you are being one of those people who so grossly exaggerates facts in gaming forums, that it just puts a deeply negative ( and largely inaccurate) spin on an otherwise legitimate conversation.

Also you can downgrade anything enough to get it running, and running smoothly at that. The problem is how far gan you downgrade before deviating too far from the original vision of the game before it isn't worth it.

We do have games like Final Fantasy 15 pocket edition that prove that if you are willing to change a game's Art direction, you can port anything to anything.

Horizon Dawn Zero: Chibi Edition...I would play it.

Please. They had to go in and create a new lowest setting for Doom because PC's low was still too much for the system. Then they had to cut the framerate in half and reduce the resolution to sub 720p on top of that and even then if you get to a spot with too many enemies the framerate tanks. Keep in mind this is a game on the most scale-able engine in the industry. Like how much are you willing to strip a game down just to get it barely running on a portable?

The article doesn't offer much value and this thread will quickly become a portbegging warzone which is why I'll close this one.
