Gamekult: 9/10. Their only complaint is the soundtrack that is nothing really special.

Regarding the Switch version, it's really (both interns of visual and controls) good despite long loading screens.

What the hell at that IGN score. I guess I should buy this, even though most roguelites bore me over time. I loved Rogue Legacy though, and this looks very similar.

Hope the sense of progression in this game is much more satisfying than Hollow Knight. It's soo snail paced in that game: 13 hours and I only learned dash and wall jump. Like WTF.

Here we go! This makes me happy that I pre bought this on the Switch! Also looks like we have another indie that might give Celeste a run for its money for best indie of 2018 (Yes I know this was in early access last year, but still).

Hollow Knight and Dead Cells are two different beasts; the former is a Metroidvania, the latter is a rogue-lite, which has shorter stages (randomly generated layouts) meant to be played multiple times until you get good enough to beat the game.

Woah. I don't often look at reviews, especially in languages I don't understand, but far as I've heard Gamekult's one of those sites that still grades on a 1-10 scale and not a 5-10 like some others do, right?

The game makes a really great first impression, but imo the repetitiveness really sets in once you've gotten past the second level of boss and it takes a non-trivial amount of time to make it back every time you die. Unfortunately I can't help but think how much better the game would have been if it weren't a roguelite.

What's the average time to beat it? Any review talking about this?

I'm wondering that as well. I've made it to the final boss multiple times in early access only to get smoked. Is the difficulty reworked too?

Edit: Just saw 10-12 hours comment. How much has changed from the Baguette update to now?

I typically dont like procedurally generated games ,but this title has been getting so much praise I might just have to check it out.

Push Square - 9/10

Dead Cells has raised the bar for the rogue-lite genre going forward. A combination of astounding combat mechanics, an unfathomable amount of weapon variety, and a spectacular art style had us coming back for second helpings, while an array of enemies made sure we always had something new to dispose of. Dead Cells has delivered in every way imaginable, making it one of the PS4's very best.

i disagree with this. Once i got in the swing, runs to the final boss took me anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on my playstyle. That's the perfect pick up and play length. And if you really don't wanna mess, the game has built in mechanics to reward you for speed running it (timed doors). It is rouge lite perfection.

need to go back to my EA copy. Was fun when it first came out but I put it down to wait until it was finished, looks like it turned out quite well.

I loved Badass Inc., I knew Motion Twin were my kinds peeps and they got my attention. When Dead Cells hit Early Access I didn't hesitate. Congratulations, first game i've double dipped on in quite a while. ^^

I posted mine in the OT before this thread existed but

DigitalChumps: 10/10

Hey, I'm sorry but I'm trying to access your review. But anytime I refresh and double click, nothing happens? Maybe its just my computer acting weird and I'll do a google search for your review on Digital Chumps instead.
Broken link. Use this instead: http://digitalchumps.com/deadcells

Edit: Great review. Last two paragraphs describe my feelings on the game perfectly.

That was my impression from the early access version too and ultimately the reason why I'm not that ecstatic for the game. Doing the early levels gets really repetitive because there's not enough variety imo.
Never have that problem in other roguelikes like Binding of Isaac, Crypt of the Necrodancer or Rogue Legacy. Had it to a lesser extend in Enter The Gungeon.

But I will give the game another chance with the full release.

Glad to see these scores, because Dead Cells deserves them. I fired it up again the other night to see whatever changes were made. I prefer the old style of leveling up, but otherwise it's so damn good.

Via the polygon Switch review
Dead Cells comes to life on the Nintendo Switch, which is where I played it for this review. Being able to play a quick round while on the road or in bed feels sinful, although the frame rate struggles from time to time when there's a lot happening onscreen. Sadly, that's when you need those frames the most, but the issue was never bad enough to make me abandon this port for another version of the game. The portable nature of the Switch makes putting up with the inconsistent frame rate a worthwhile tradeoff. Others, especially super competitive players, are likely to disagree.

Wait. How?

RL is the same exact thing over and over every single time you restart. Other than the procedurally generated rooms and enemy placement, of course. Which is a thing Dead Cells does as well. How is RL not a problem, but DC is?

For me anyway (I'm no master at this game), I would say it would take me anywhere from 20-30 minutes to get back to and beat that second boss, and then the areas afterward I find very challenging. Having to redo that 20-30 minutes every time I die gets repetitive imo.
