So I wanted to make this PSA because I see in the Smash Direct thread some people are complaining that us getting a Smash direct means it took a main direct's place and how we won't get a main direct for a long time, etc.

There was always going to be a Smash direct, yes it's earlier then we thought and yes Nintendo spend 25 minutes on Smash Ultimate at E3 but it's one of the biggest games for Nintendo this year (alongside Pokemon Let's Go) and it creates huge hype.

We will be getting a big main direct sooner or later and the fact that we are getting a Smash direct in a few days does not change that.

Thanks!

Nintendo fans have said stupider things, so I have no doubts people genuinely believe this.

Just because we see Waluigi as an Assist trophy doesn't mean he can't be a new playable character.

When there's jack and shit announced beyond smash dontd be surprised when non smash fans are pissed that there is a smash direct coming when e3 might as well have been a smash direct.

Smash Ultimate has a lot of content so its logical they dedicate a direct to it. We dont know anything about the various modes and other stuff.

I suspect Pokemon will have its own direct too and a general one around end august begin september to outline the Q3 and Q4 stuff.

Nintendo does game specific directs for a while now so nothing surprising here.

I hope so because I have exclusively been playing my switch for a few months now and I would like that to continue, but I have absolutely zero interest in a new smash bros.

For many yes. (Fire emblem is the only announced Nintendo made game I give a fuck about but I doubt it will even be out in 2019).

Ok, if Fire Emblem is all you care about when they did announce plenty of other stuff then just...don't play? Like, I don't get some poster's sheer need to be caterted too 24/7. And really? Going the Zero Punctuation "ideals" route? Come off that bullshit. Being overtly negative isn't fun or exciting or makes you intelligent.

To those saying that this thread is pointless: It's not. There's been quite a few people already freaking out that the Smash Direct means there won't be a full Nintendo DIrect for a while.

E3 was barely a month and a half ago. There probably wasn't going to be a full direct until the beginning of September at the earliest. They're usually spaced about 3-4 months in between.

I was worried there for a second we would never get a regular direct again.

People can post if they are excited people can post of they are unhappy. It takes 20 sec, sorry blind optimism isn't any better.

Idk why a post saying you are unhappy is somehow the equivalent of spending hours every day crying like my whole family died or something.

I'd love me a Dark Souls Direct.

Now, let me be a bit more serious about something I thought of as funny idea to put on the internet somewhere.

Serious reason: we need some sort re-kindling of interest for it.

Fun reason: Kamiya's Wonderful 101 Direct could be a sort of basis or template for it.

Serious reason: A lot of people still think the game is mysterious and impenetrable, a Direct would be informative for newcomers and a treat for veterans.

Fun reason: Who doesn't want to see a proof of concept showing multiple people on the Switches playing it in portable co-op?

This is one of those "Nintendo didn't show things that I cared about" rather than "Nintendo didn't show anything besides Smash." I never understand this sort of argument because it comes across as "Nintendo showed nothing if you discount the things I don't care about," which is really just kind of weak.

Your phrasing just comes across as petulant. Nintendo (or any other video game company) will not always have something that appeals to you. That's okay. Your logic can apply to literally any set of reveals or coverage that a company puts out of their upcoming lineup. I'm not sure why this one matters any more than any other one would.

Sorry, but "blind optimism" isn't what's happening here. And no, even if we're talking about "blind optimism", being so pessimistic that you think there will be ZERO games for 2019 to the point where every game we know MUST be delayed because of pessimism is infinitely worse than thinking there will be more games around the corner. One is realistic and it ain't the pessimistic route.

You still haven't given a reason why Fire Emblem will be delayed beyond 2019 when it already has a Q1 2019 release window..

PSA: just because Nintendo like to dance to their own tune, doesn't mean you have to dance with them.

Looks like a case of bad planning

what would a main direct cover? face it, 2018 is all about smash.
2019 will for sure be a bigger year for switch, but it's 2018 now and Nintendo is all in for smash and i love it
