- Shadow the Hedgehog as a Echo Fighter + ARK map from SA2.
- Simon Belmont + Haunted Mansion stage.
- Menu Reveal.
- Bunch of game mode reveal and quick demonstrations.
- Assist Trophy reveal from other games.
- Campaign like Subspace with story cutscenes coming back.
- Online Test announced and will be out on September. Need Nintendo Online membership to participate.

My expectations from this Direct.

I expect 2 newcomers and 1 echo fighter, plus modes etc...The game will be released in 4 months, we don't know how many characters there's left, but a Smash specific Direct with only one character reveal seems disappointing IMO.

Has it ever happened actually ? The two Smash direct I remember had two newcomers each.

I get that not everyone is super pumped for Smash or this direct, but in the grand scheme of things it won't matter in the long run.

As there was a similar scenario prior to the very specific focus on Breath of the Wild at E3 in 2016.

If anything it'll probably generate insanely hype reactions. And will likely sell considerably more than most of Nintendo's current Switch titles, including Breath of the Wild.

I'll take Impa for sure. She's my second pick after Elma.

Only E3 2013, 2014, and the final Smash 4 direct revealed multiple full newcomers.
Smash Direct early 2014 and the DLC Direct before E3 2015 revealed veterans plus one newcomer.
Robin's reveal and E3 2018 revealed one full newcomer, one echo, and veterans.

I only expect one newcomer and maybe an echo.

If Das's 7 Gen Pokemon Lead is real (It's not Lycanroc,Mimikyu or Decideye). Then here is my prediction:

Start of the Smash Trailer new charcter reveal - It will be Zeraora with a new Pokemon Stage based on the Upcoming Movie. Zeraora despite sharing the electric typing will play completly differently from Pikachu and will be more like Wolverine from Marvel vs Capcom in that a lot of moves are multi hit claw moves though i think they should use Zeraora's magnetic field as his main gimmick as he could use magnetic field to draw in items as well as charcters. I think the two other most likely Pokemon that aren't the requested three is Tapu Koko and Marshadow.

In the Middle of the Smash Trailer is the reveal of an Echo Fighter which will be Isabelle who is an Echo of Villager.

End of the Smash Trailer will be the reveal of Simon Belmont who is more of a ranged fighter using his whip as well as sub weapons. He also has a command grab style move ala Ghost Rider. His Stage will be the Castlevania Castle. which will transition between multiple areas.

There's a lot of people disappointed it's a Smash Direct. I'm seeing it all over the internet. Not everyone is a Smash fan. Not all Nintendo fans are Smash fans. They're allowed to be disappointed.
People will always be disappointed. If it was a general direct, and then no Pikmin, no Wave Race, no Metroid Prime and no Animal Crossing people would be as disappointed as right now. You guys need to trust the silent majority who is happy with what Nintendo is bringing.
People on twitter, on Gamefaqs, 4chan, here, were all dooming Nintendo after E3. And yet, Nintendo came and said "reactions have been really positive. We have sold a lot of Switch right after E3".
Smash was the most talked game on twitter at E3. The hype is huge.
People are hyped for this direct. If some are not happy with a Smash Direct right now, then wait. You will, in the worst case, wait only one month for a general direct. In the best case two weeks or something. That's like nothing lol.
It's either Smash Direct or no Direct at all right now. So there's no point being disappointed, people just need to be patient.
You can express that you are not interested in this direct, but I don't get the disappointment.

Yep, but back then every new Direct revealed a newcomer, and E3 presentations revealed a few. This year's E3 only revealed Ridley plus an echo, and Inklings were revealed during the previous Direct. We will have at least one regular Direct from September to December, and I'm sure that some newcomers will be revealed during other events, but considering how little time we have until launch, I don't see them broadcasting a Smash Direct without more than one reveal. But it all depends on the number of newcomers, obviously.

If Shadow is in the game, I'm gonna barf. This is a Nintendo game, Sonic is enough. Plus Shadow sucks balls.

I'm hoping for Dixie. DK needs another character...

Nah, this is dumb, it's like thinking that the Smash Direct is going to replace a regular Direct. I mean, if Nintendo has the games they'll reveal them sooner or later. Did Nintendo decide to move some games to 2018 to make Smash the big star of the holidays season? It can be, but the games will be released nonetheless.

Probably keeping the characters reveals slim with this game though with sakurai making a comment with dont expect many newcomers from what I recall in the past makes me believe that there would only be one newcomer reveal in the livestreams, and since they're going back to the traditional unlock the character feature Sakurai might do more suprise characters like Dog hunt. Who knows though, it's our first Ultimate direct so it's hard to know if they're following the same pattern as the Wii U and 3DS game until everyone has seen it.

I honestly don't get what makes her more exciting than Mona, Jimmy, 9-Volt etc., but WarioWare is a fun franchise and she's popular so it's logical that she could get into Smash.

If it comes down to Ashley or K. Rool I'm picking the witch.

I have been seeing this more and more recently and have absolutely no clue what is going on with that. Probably just a very vocal group of people, and don't get me wrong, I love WarioWare and its cast, but I don't see the point of adding Ashley to Smash Bros... yet

What she's got going for her is that she's supposedly popular in Japan, there's no evidence of her Assist Trophy being in the game, and Wario's official tag on the site is WarioWare instead of just Wario.

She's not in my top 5 most likely, but definitely in my top 20. WarioWare's great and deserves more love. Ashley's not my favorite character in it, but I'd be happy to see just about any of its side characters added in.

No, with "yet" I mean: after WarioWare is a more established franchise (yes, I think that despite WarioWare Gold Nintendo isn't really pushing the full potential of the franchise), I can see them adding WarioWare characters like Ashley.

But then again, R.O.B. and Duckhunt Dog can be considered obscure as well and are still part of the roster, so what do I know

Same here. I don't have any interest in KKR, and on top of that he will be another big, heavy character, and big characters use to be pretty bad in Smash or depend a lot on grab combos. On the other hand Ashley can be interesting. But I expect KKR to be in the game and not Ashley, it makes more sense considering the ballot.

Yeah I meant like full scale Smash Direct, not E3 events or Robin's reveal event. I only remembered the Smash 4 extravanganza direct and the final Smash Direct, both of which had two newcomers reveal.

I mean, she has been popular in japan for a while now and pushed a ton with marketing stuff. Some could say it's forced, but she is almost a co-face of warioware.

I want k.rool if it was between those two. But I almost think Ashley has a better chance.

He really does deserve it, after being the main antagonist in 4 DK games.

There's still going to be at least 8-10 newcomers all things considered, which would be lower than Smash 4 but would still need a reveal of two characters each month.
In this day and age I don't believe that there will be any secrecy left before the launch.

Overall, I'm not sure, but "among WarioWare randos", she does stand out. Most of WW characters are nice, passionate freaks, and Ashley has some snark factor (though I hear it's mostly a localization thing). She has a relatively straight random moveset excuse with her being a witch; for instance the taxi duo would require more out-of-the-box thinking, the martial artists and ninja twins would be expected to be rather boring, game maniacs would either be out-of-the-box or Duck Hunt / Pac-Man on steroids, and Jimmy's dance moves could work out but seem to be on collision course with Rhythm Heaven having nothing right now.

I reckon we'll see 2 newcomers, maybe even 3 pushing it.

Game modes for sure, smash run should be back hopefully.

Echo Fighters! Dark Samus seems a certainty, Ken or Shadow seem unlikely but maybe. Dixie as well!

New Donk City will finally be shown, hopefully Fountain of Dreams

Chrom will be either deconfirmed or confirmed, i think he's likely at this point as an echo

THEN!!! A Global TestSmash, I kind of doubt it, but I want it :(

- Probably 2 new Echo Fighters, Shadow is one pf them since they haven't shown up the Assist Trophy.
- 1 new character: Simon Belmont, Knuckles or Banjo-Kazooie.
- New stages.
- Story Mode tease.

I'm thinking we're going to see one fully new newcomer, complete with trailer, and at least one more echo fighter. We'll likely see some information about the game modes as well. Of course, I'm also expecting another assist trophy massacre that will have many peoples favorites (likely some of mine as well) deconfirmed. It'll be exciting, that's for sure!
