I can't wait to see someone spin this on this board as anything but an absolute disaster for this fading team.
NY sports radio is going to have a field day tomorrow.

he hadn't blown a save since may 4
He got bailed out by Chasen Shreve of all people a few weeks ago right after the break when he couldn't throw strikes. Of course, that was also off of a similarly long layoff and you would have assumed that Boone would have used that as a data point going forward but yeah.
Exactly. Boone fucked up by not using Chapman more. It had been nearly a week since he was last used.He got bailed out by Chasen Shreve of all people a few weeks ago right after the break when he couldn't throw strikes. i'm sure it feels fucking terrible right now, but this series is probably meaningless for the yankees. they weren't going to win the division anyways, and the chances of them missing the wild card are still extremely small.
they were playing out of their minds early, and now it's balancing out. if they lose in the playoffs, it won't be because of some random slump in august.
this post aged wellI'll take 3/4. Very encouraging start from Price, just can't keep him in that long. Runners on base that late in his pitch count is no bueno. Offense should've come through but Tanaka and the BP had a great game.
Hard to sweep the second best team in the majors.
And play who exactly? Manny isn't coming through that door yet.

Yeah, I thought that was more his error than Andujar. Bird closed his glove early.
Benching him isn't going to magically make him better defensively, and doing so for Neil Walker is even dumber.Neil walker? Doesn't matter, the kid needs to be held accountable for tonight.
What else can be said? The Yankees are not going anywhere like this and this division is over. The wC is not even secured.
I imagine the yankees will take 2 out of 3 against the white sox.Benching him isn't going to magically make him better defensively, and doing so for Neil Walker is even dumber.
Thankfully, the next couple of weeks is a soft spot in the schedule. Division is out the question, but they'll stick make the playoffs.
Judge and Sanchez are sorely missed.
Red Sox social media is fucking hilariousYankees twitter is as trash as their team. Red Sox twitter ts vastly superior

He has no range. Him improving his footwork and throwing mechanics can only help so much. The question is - is this the best Andujar is capable of at defense right now? or is there something with his footwork or throwing mechanics that he's not doing right and can be rectified.

I understand that, but I'm talking about his defense overall, not that play in particular. I know the Yankees had been trying to get him to throw from a 3/4ths arm slot rather than overhead.I get that, but that play had nothing to do with his range. The ball was hit right to him. His throw was bad and it took him way too long to get rid of the ball.
Andujar's future is as a trade chip for starting pitching. The Yankees need to get Machado in pinstripes next year, significantly upgrade their rotation, and ideally upgrade at first if the right guy is available for the right price. This season is probably a lost cause, especially since no one knows whether Judge or Sanchez will be anything close to 100% when they get back.
I don't think the problem is with Boone not pulling Chapman earlier. You really have to trust an elite closer to be able to get out of a jam and the Yankees had already used up Dellin, Britton, and D-Rob. Cora did the same thing with Kimbrel last night. The problem is with Boone apparently learning nothing from the last time Chapman had such a long layoff and actively avoiding that to begin with.I don't know whether to blame Boone, the team, Chapman, or the entire damn organization.
Boone needs to learn to pull Chapman the moment you can tell he has no control. Walking 3 batters for a closer is inexcusable. The team can't hit or field. I don't care if they win 90 games this season, they have been awful leading up to and since the All-Star break.
A young team makes mistakes, but the Yankees are playing like the aliens from Space Jam have stolen their talent.
Valid point. Still feels like Boone doesn't put any pressure on the team to make plays or perform. He keeps thinking better days are ahead & doesn't seem to want to bench or punish a player for bad performance. The Yankees won't get a winning streak like they did earlier in the season to turn things around. They can't even play .500 ball.I don't think the problem is with Boone not pulling Chapman earlier. Why was Voit played ahead of Bird tonight? A literal bird would be have been a better choice than Voit.
the playoffs are enough of a crap shoot that any season you can make it to them isn't a loss cause.Andujar's future is as a trade chip for starting pitching.
