he hadn't blown a save since may 4
He got bailed out by Chasen Shreve of all people a few weeks ago right after the break when he couldn't throw strikes. Of course, that was also off of a similarly long layoff and you would have assumed that Boone would have used that as a data point going forward but yeah.

Exactly. Boone fucked up by not using Chapman more. It had been nearly a week since he was last used.

And Andújar sucks defensively.

I can't wait to see someone spin this on this board as anything but an absolute disaster for this fading team.

i'm sure it feels fucking terrible right now, but this series is probably meaningless for the yankees. they weren't going to win the division anyways, and the chances of them missing the wild card are still extremely small.

they were playing out of their minds early, and now it's balancing out. if they lose in the playoffs, it won't be because of some random slump in august.

In the end the damage was done regardless. Sure gives the Fire Boone movement some major life though.

Thanks for that. It is absolutely awful now.

I love that dirty water.

Don't like to get to high or too low game to game or week to week with baseball but this is starting to feel like a charmed season. Only one acceptable outcome at this point. :/

I mostly just want the Red Sox to shatter the wins in a season record, 116 seems doable. Playoffs will be tough either way, get that single season record.

I just did the math, to match 116 wins they have to go 37-12 the rest of the way... that seems tough, but doable.

Neil walker? Doesn't matter, the kid needs to be held accountable for tonight.
Benching him isn't going to magically make him better defensively, and doing so for Neil Walker is even dumber.

Thankfully, the next couple of weeks is a soft spot in the schedule. Division is out the question, but they'll stick make the playoffs.

Judge and Sanchez are sorely missed.

I imagine the yankees will take 2 out of 3 against the white sox.

they will be facing 3 inconstant pitchers who when on will hold the yankees to 2 runs or less, but haven't been on that much recently.
beyond that though the white sox are on a 4 game winning streak... it's about time for them to lose that as it might be the biggest one of the season lol.

10 winning records out of 10 seasons
World Series
Somehow his 2014 Yankees were 6 games over .500 with .749 OPS Brett Gardner as best hitter
Took eventual champs to Game 7 of the ALCS last year

vs.

Guy that hit that home run once

The question is - is this the best Andujar is capable of at defense right now? or is there something with his footwork or throwing mechanics that he's not doing right and can be rectified.

Andujar's future is as a trade chip for starting pitching. The Yankees need to get Machado in pinstripes next year, significantly upgrade their rotation, and ideally upgrade at first if the right guy is available for the right price. This season is probably a lost cause, especially since no one knows whether Judge or Sanchez will be anything close to 100% when they get back.

I get that, but that play had nothing to do with his range. The ball was hit right to him. His throw was bad and it took him way too long to get rid of the ball.
I understand that, but I'm talking about his defense overall, not that play in particular. I know the Yankees had been trying to get him to throw from a 3/4ths arm slot rather than overhead.

Judge is the one I'm worried about. I was very surprised when they said he could be back in 3 weeks from a chip fracture in his wrist. I've badly sprained my wrist in the past and it took me more than month to get full range of motion back. And that's just a sprain, not a fracture.

I don't know whether to blame Boone, the team, Chapman, or the entire damn organization.

Boone needs to learn to pull Chapman the moment you can tell he has no control. Walking 3 batters for a closer is inexcusable. The team can't hit or field. I don't care if they win 90 games this season, they have been awful leading up to and since the All-Star break.

A young team makes mistakes, but the Yankees are playing like the aliens from Space Jam have stolen their talent.

I don't think the problem is with Boone not pulling Chapman earlier. You really have to trust an elite closer to be able to get out of a jam and the Yankees had already used up Dellin, Britton, and D-Rob. Cora did the same thing with Kimbrel last night. The problem is with Boone apparently learning nothing from the last time Chapman had such a long layoff and actively avoiding that to begin with.

Valid point. Still feels like Boone doesn't put any pressure on the team to make plays or perform. He keeps thinking better days are ahead & doesn't seem to want to bench or punish a player for bad performance. The Yankees won't get a winning streak like they did earlier in the season to turn things around. They can't even play .500 ball.

Why was Voit played ahead of Bird tonight? A literal bird would be have been a better choice than Voit.

Lol. Glad I didnt waste my time watching the shitshow, I wont place an ounce of blame to Chapman, not only he has not been used at all, but I have a rule of thumb with the 9th Innings: an fielding error, no matter how much of a lead you have, is to blame.

Anyway, even tough this team is not an awful as their play right now, one has to wonder if getting rid of Girardi to hire a rookie Manager made real sense, and more when you knew coming to this season Expectation for a WS trip are high. Also, with Judge and Sanchez out and having Voit and Robinson as part of your lineup is going to hurt the team chances, add Gregorious awful slump to the mix and you practically have half of your lineup neutralized.

Should The Yanks sign Hanley Ramirez? Im not sure it can hurt the team any more than wasting at bat with Voit and Robinson.

Why was Voit played ahead of Bird tonight? A literal bird would be have been a better choice than Voit.

Maybe to avoid the lefty vs lefty matchup.

You can learn to be an adequate hitter you can't learn an adequate glove. I assume the the Yankees stick with andujar next year but they better give a long look to Manny at third.

the playoffs are enough of a crap shoot that any season you can make it to them isn't a loss cause.
