you mean e3 direct meltdowns on Era
shockingly, they don't conduct their marketing based on a forum.
So much this.
Also quick reminder. Era after E3 : "Nintendo is doomed. Worst E3 ever. No games : no sell. As simple as that. I'm selling my Switch."
In the meanwhile, Nintendo after E3 : "reactions have been positive, we have sold a lot of Switch after E3."

You guys are crazy if you still think this kind of forum is representative of the mass market.

Serious question, why is everyone so existed about this direct? I'm getting Smash for the Switch but they already burned me out by wasting 30 minutes of E3 on this game. And now another direct that covers it again? I understand that I don't have to watch it but I was hoping at least for an indies direct or something new. I find it hard that we will get another direct shortly after this one.

If anything they will probably have another Smash direct before the game releases. They should have just stuck to that one.

Because I loved every second of Smash at the E3 direct and want more.

Especially modes and characters.

also after that other forum melted down, i'm sure they won't trust this one as much.

Clearly Nintendo are never going to announce another video game again or ever put out a new direct that isnt about Smash.

/s

For real though I'm really hoping for some solid announcements about single player modes. To be honest I don't really want another subspace, it was a huge drag to play even if the cutscenes were brilliant. I'd love a properly fleshed out classic mode, with break the targets/ other mini games in between matches.

Really hoping to see what the different game modes will be like this time around! I feel like they've more than fufilled my wishes for characters, so at this point I'm just hoping for as much single player content as possible, which it felt like Smash 4 was a bit light on. It's obviously not the main attraction of the game, or even close, but when you're just itching to play Smash and are sick of Online and don't have any friends to play with it can be a fun distraction.

Why can't we have subspace and classic mode? This is the ultimate game, let's get the best modes. Subspace could definitely be refined a bit but I don't see why someone would rather they not bother with it than try to improve it

.... I'm happy but also wondering if this is even necessary in August.

Not that its necessary, it just seems very early. I really think they're dropping a demo.
Possibly the E3 demo for download to go along with the online service?

i don't care much about a story or adventure mode tbh. Melee's adventure mode is pretty overrated nowadays imo. It was just alright.
I'm down for a story mode if it's fun of course though

I do hope classic mode goes back closer to how it was before.
But keep it co-op.

Awesome. Hopefully we get info on new modes. Single player needs a huge improvement over Smash Wii U. Normal Classic Mode please :(

And a demo to tide us over pleaaaaase.

Nah, Classic needs a revamp because it takes too much time to go through ALL the characters to get their trophies, even with Wii U's co-op.

I mean, it's obvious from the design alone, but regardless, Smash historically doesn't give much regard to spoilers. What they've done withthe final party member from the first Xenoblade should make that clear.

There's a massive difference between a eight year old game from three generations ago and a game on the latest hardware that is still actively getting updates and a massive retail expansion releasing soon .

One of the announcements is that there's going to be an online beta test in September for Nintendo Online subscribers.

Boom, there's your subscriber count, Nintendo.

Now that it's been said I can't imagine it not happening.

Oh don't get me wrong I'm not wishing for another sse to not happen. The first one was just a disappoint for me so not actively hoping they bring it back. But I'm on board with "ALL THE MODES" cause it's ultimate.

A Smash direct doesn't remove any other directs from happen, Nintendo could easily do a Indie direct in 2 weeks and then a main direct in September.

Yo imagine they show off how you can unlock characters while playing regular matches and announce 4 online betas each once per month.

August demo is OG 12 plus some Melee newcomers

September is OG 12 plus Brawl Newcomers

October is OG 12 plus Smash 4 Newcomers

November is OG 12 plus Ultimate Newcomers

This thread is nuts. It's not like they cancelled a general direct or an online one for this; those are probably happening in September and never respectively; as was probably always planned. And as for the "what can they even announce" people, uh, we know literally nothing other than characters? Like I get they explained that one thing in depth at E3 so it felt like a lot but we know basically nothing about new and returning game modes or DLC potential or online features or stages or anything.

Plus, there's bound to be a new character announcement and that's worth a direct alone. Fingers crossed for rex and pyra.

They'll announce demo dates that will require you to subscribe to Nintendo's online service in September in order to participate.

Also, they'll confirm Isabelle (echo of Villager) and Simon Belmont. :-O

That fast already? I expected one in oktober or a week befor the release, but already?

And honestly, they showed a lot, i hope they dont show to much.
In my opinion they could just wait to the release, people know what to expect from smash.

The game has more than enough fighters.
I hope they announce an online beta instead.

It's probably going to go over modes, stages, and probably a new character or two. People who thought we wouldn't get another Smash Direct after the E3 Direct must not understand that this game has a much shorter marketing cycle than Smash 4 and thus needs to show a ton of information in a shorter amount of time. Smash 4 had a solid year to show things, ramping up its marketing in 2014. There were several Directs where they had a Smash character reveal at the end, DLC included in 2015 Directs. Like, the Smash Direct they had before Smash 4's release wasn't too long from a previous Direct where we just had Smash info dropped in it iirc.

They are probably going to have this Direct and then depending on how much info. gets spilled here will determine if it seems like there's enough for another one around November before it releases or if they'll just continue to drip feed into the next general Directs like they did with Smash 4.

Still, the point stands that shorter reveal to release = more info going to be dropped in a shorter amount of time.

It's gotta be Elma. She's going to be revealed as a Blade for Xenoblade 2 at Gamescom.

I don't think K Rool is a very good character, but at least he's visually unique. Would much rather have him than another anime dude.
