Edit3:
Thanks for the Well-Wishes and recommendations.

I went with Octopath Traveler and L.A. Noire.

So, I'll be buying for the Switch since that's the easiest thing to get around.

I already have (and have played the hell out of)
Mario Odyssey
Zelda: BOTW
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Stardew Valley
Rocket League

Edit2:Forgot to mention I have Skyrim on PC already and just recently had a play-through of that.

I'm looking for something to take my mind off things while I recover.

I'm considering
Wolfenstein TNC
Octopath Traveler
Ys: LoD
Steamworld Dig 2

Any other ideas?

Edit: Dammit.... title typo, lmao...

Do you like metroidvanias? Hollow Knight can provide dozens of hours of gameplay. It's also probably my favorite game in that space of all time

I only played the demos of Octopath and wasn't super into it. I did just finish Ys VIII last weekend and absolutely loved it the entire 45 hours I played, though.

Steamworld Dig 2 seems like a great pick, as does Hollow Knight, if you are up for something more challenging.

Surely Octopath Traveller is the answer.

Just try to stay away from any multiplayer games, don't want to be doing any heavy carrying...

Good luck with the surgery!
If you're into the genre Hollow Knight is a masterpiece that will keep you busy for hours and hours.

Plus I imagine you'll be on all manner of drugs that may well enhance the experience..
Unfortunately, I will not be sitting at my PC. I'll be laid up on my back for a while.

Oh, I hadn't considered that. I enjoyed Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, and Metroid Zero Mission. Not a big Castlevania fan, though...

I hadn't considered Ys, though... I've never played one. Would you say it's closer to something like Final Fantasy or Tales of?

Dark Souls Remastered, lol

That will surely help you relax.

And good luck with your surgery. You won't need it because everything will be fine anyway :)

Hmmm, Hollow Knight definitely skews closer to the Vania end of Metroidvania. It also has a lot of Dark Souls inspiration. Steamworld Dig 2 is my other favorite Metroidvania on Switch and might be more up your alley. That one is extremely chill and relaxing as well, if that's more of what you're looking for after a surgery

Ys is definitely closer to Tales in that it's an action RPG. But it's kind of its own thing. I had never paid attention to the series before and got this solely because of the OST and ended up loving it; it very much feels like a throwback to PS2 era JRPGs in the best way possible.

Minecraft? It's quite chilled out and mellow, you can just get lost doing mundane tasks which I imagine might be the right level of intensity post-op.

EDIT: On second thought, Skyrim Remastered? You can just mellow out with that game. There's no rush and it's only as intense as you want it. Also, Fallout Shelter for a little 5 minute distraction here and there.

Lots of Octopath and Steamworld Suggestions.

Ys has me intrigued as well.

Thanks everyone.

And thanks for all the well-wishes.

Ys is great and you can put a LOT of hours into it. Octopath can get a bit tedious if you play it for a long time in a row. Which you might if you are laid up all day.

Maybe buy both and switch between the two?

Octopath seems like it would be great for that, considering it's pretty chill and the gameplay doesn't rely on reflexes at all.

Hollow Knight is my favorite game on the Switch, but it's kind of the opposite in the gameplay department. It does have many hours of quality content for a low price.

Lots of great suggestions here already, so I'm at a loss, I hope for a speedy recovery though!

Def not if you're playing on your back. Aiming gets completely fucked.
I don't understand why they never bothered to fix that, every other gyro enhanced game I've played works without issue while laying down :/, like Zelda and Fortnite

Metroidvanias would be good. (I know you already picked).

Get steam world dig 2. The music, the graphics, the progression. Oh, god, I need to play that again.

LA noire was decent but redundant and the pop up and dead city means it's basically a novel more than a game. I stayed for the story.

Good luck with surgery & speedy recovery. You might wish to play games you can pick up and put down that aren't commitment heavy. I can't recommend Captain Toad highly enough, you can play for a little bit and have a blast or play in an afternoon marathon. The thing is, there's a positive, joyful nintendo vibe to the game, might help keep u days sunny.

Octopath and Ys would be the better choice. La noire might put you in a coma.. Found it very boring
I figured I could go back and forth between to two. I'm a fan of the noire detective genre in other mediums but never got around to playing the original release. I'll be playing it for the story anyway. Should be a nice an mellow playthrough while medicated.
