I wonder how many, if any of the old cast will be returning for this. I hope Riker and Data at least show up as they were some of the closest to Picard.
I would also love for Wil Wheaton to be a part of this as Wesley Crusher again. He deserves it after getting undeserved shit for all these years.

Hopefully he's gonna use this as the bully pulpit to address social issues that some nerds have forgotten TNG tried to talk about

(TNG also had gigantic failures like that one episode)

Will this be the first canon Star Trek material that takes place after the end of Voyager/DS9?

Shit dude. Prepare to feel.

The follow up episode where he reveals to that woman he falls in love with what happened to him and they bond over the music is also awesome but rarely gets mentioned. I liked it, because something like Inner light would honestly change a person forever and it would have been bizarre if the show never referenced it again.

I'm glad that piece of shit Nemesis won't have to be Picard's last outing. Secretly hoping this will basically be Blunt Talk in space though. "It's like the Borg all over again, Harry!", but with Data in the Harry role.

I happen to be going through TNG for the first time, so this is timely news. He's great.

lmao planet of the black people

The show did address social issues well, just not that episode. What the show has to say about torture is effective as hell, for example.

Brand new 4K TV, and I'm spending the day watching blurry television from the late 80's. God I love TNG.

If you are outside the US I think all that stuff is on netflix now. And its the remaster.

In the US? The Blu Ray or maybe CBS All Access has it all.

The remaster is about as good of a job remastering a old show as you would want. They really did not fuck it up at all.
The show that's on Netflix Canada is the remaster? Cool. Thanks

Is this the collection for the remaster? https://www.amazon.ca/Star-Trek-Generation-Complete-Blu-ray/dp/B01BP146SY/

If we're being super-duper technical, 2002's Star Trek Nemesis is set after Voyager and DS9 too.

But yeah, this is the first canon Trek material set after TNG/DS9/VOY since then.

also, teeeeechnically the last episode of TNG takes place after DS9 and Voyager, and is still canon, it's just erased from history. But it did happen.

Also, from what I remember reading, this originally would have been considered impossible because CBS wanted nothing to do with the old universe after the new movies. I'm guessing Discovery has done well enough that they're willing to greenlight the OGverse for more content. I know other TNG cast members have been trying to get OGverse stuff greenlit.

That's awesome news. I'll have to watch this then. Kinda gave up on discovery with stuff going on and it not getting into my weekly tv rotation.

one of my favorite endings to anything ever

What a perfect end to an awesome series. I love that it's pretty much the only time in the entire run of TNG that the stakes get up to "save all of humanity and the entire galaxy" levels. And it's old-ass picard, whom everybody doubts, who saves everyone using reason and logic.

For all people may hate on Discovery, rightly or wrongly, it is allowing for things like this. I'm so fucking happy right now.

Given that it was pitched by a Discovery writers and partially staffed by Discovery folks, yeah, that's probably the best takeaway.

I wonder if they'll call any of the old TNG/DS9/VOY writers in for this, like Ron Moore. I know Joe Menosky did an episode for Discovery but he exited the writing staff afterward, which is a bit of a bummer. That man's crazy episodes are either really good or really bad, but either way they're exciting.

Like I just want to scream this from the rooftops (particularly to the "I hope they don't TLJ-fy him" folks):

It's probably not going to be the thing you want

Despite not liking it at all, I'll give Disc credit for revitalizing the Prime Universe. Though I hope it ends with it getting timey-wimeyed out of existence because it makes no sense in canon.

I feel like I'm pretty fortunate as a Trek fan because my enjoyment is pretty diverse and I like every show (to varying extents)

Even if this is like hardline jaded-as-fuck Picard in a more action-centric environment, while that'd be a waste in some key regards, I bet I'll still like it

This is the best news.

TNG has been my favorite show since watching it back in 87.

Going to be watching it with my son.
