Seriously this seems like a perfect sci-fi show to reboot and it's been so long now.

Also what was with this show?
They just needed to chill somewhere for a little bit of time before their next jump but they always were somehow meeting their doubles or getting caught up in big world events.

Yeah not a bad idea. I could go for some more. Might have to be a hard reboot rather than a continuation of the original series though.

It was never all that good or even popular so I imagine whoever owns the rights to it doesn't really give a shit.

I'd also say TV, and sci-fi TV in particular focusing more on serialized storytelling more often these days means a reboot wouldn't be in fashion. Now we have TV shows like Fringe or The Man in the High Castle that explore a concept for an episode of Sliders over the course of several seasons.

I've been saying for years that it's the perfect reboot material.

Man did this series get fucked hard.

This show could have been The Twilight Zone with the benefit of continuity.

Instead it became 'Oh, it's the Species episode this week.'

Lazy, lazy shit. I once interviewed Jon Rhys Davies about it and he was mad as hell.

Sliders, another series from just before they really started doing continuity and plot arcs in shows. It firmed up towards the end of its run, but the aliens plot was too little too late. the format of the show very much fit with the new story/different world every week.

But that squeaky gate episode in sliders *wails*

Personally I'd like to see a space above and beyond reboot, but that's probably called the expanse. Also, man I might be mis-remembering but did that show borrow from Ender's game.

Ahhh, now, a Babylon 5 reboot.... Seeing ambassador kosh up to his old tricks again. Mmm. Yes please.

What if you could travel to parallel worlds? The same year, the same Earth, only different dimensions. A world where the Russians rule America... My friends and I found the gateway. Now the problem is... finding a way back home.

I feel like the budget for this show would havr to be decently large due to the inability to reslly reuse locations

I love Sliders, but that show has such baggage, Go back and reboot Quantum Leap instead.

Quinn Mallory, a sober Rick Sanchez with a malfunctioning portal gun :D.

I would kill for a sliders reboot, fucking loved it back in the day.

As pointed out, its new dimension every week storyline isn't necessarily ideal for serialised content, being somewhat 'creature of the week' style. BUT it could be adapted to be so with the right creative team.

Your Imagination
Parallels (currently on Netflix) was due a series based off the pilot episode but I haven't heard anything from it in a year or so. Love this genre so always try and keep my ear to ground but there seems to be no progress in this style of sci-if show at the moment.

Yup. There was a huge twitter push afterwards too and then nothing. So sad. It was a good pilot.

A new Sliders and Quantum Leap would be fantastic.

Parallel dimensions are far more interesting to me than space and time travel.

Not everything has to be serialized. Black Mirror isn't and is doing quite well, and the Amazon version of Black Mirror (forget the name) happened too.

They'd need a new name, though. When I hear "sliders" I think "burgers" now.

While you are at it, reboot "7 days".

Sliders thrived on the interaction between the 4 main characters. it got downhill fast after the professor got booted out (because he was critical of the writing)

Remember that episode where they got home but didn't believe it because of all the crazy real world news that had happened since they'd left? They could do an entire series where they never visit a parallel world and instead keep sliding to different parts of real Earth only to keep dismissing it because it's 2018.

It's been almost 20 years and yeah wanted it for a long time but at this point and the damage that was done with how the fifth season played out, never mind the bullshit from the third with killing off Auturo. At least that could still be handwaved away but they'd have to pretty much ignore most of season five to really do it properly. It'd probably be better off with some sort of full on reset at this point and I'm not sure I'd be interested. I think the rights are with Universal just as they are with Quantum Leap. Even though I think I liked Sliders more I'd still rather finally get that Quantum Leap reboot, Dean Stockwell isn't getting any younger, at this point they'd probably have to go the Sam and Al's grand children route or some shit.

It was never all that good or even popular so I imagine whoever owns the rights to it doesn't really give a shit.

Sliders was a fine for what it was and being a product of its time and in large part the victim of network meddling by Fox and later bullshit that limited its potential, also not helped Sci-Fi network TV shows has pretty much always had a niche audience and typically struggle, after it got moved Sliders was the highest rated show on the Sci-Fi Channel even as it was abruptly cancelled so it was popular enough. It wasn't so much serialized but that could easily be changed to have mini-arcs Tracy Tormé did want to have some light serialization and with some arcs and everything but Fox didn't like it and what little there was got thrown out of order or dropped, worse when he was forced out and that hack David Peckinpah (who thought Wade Wells being captured and sent to a Kromagg breeding/rape camp was funny) got put in place in the third season.

Remember that episode where they got home but didn't believe it because of all the crazy real world news that had happened since they'd left? To this day possibly the most frustrating minute of television for me.

Quantum Leap and Sliders are like the Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross of TV shows

Or are Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross like the Quantum Leap and Sliders of video games? I was so over hyped on Chrono Cross using the parallel worlds concept because of Sliders and then super disappointed with how limited it turned out to be.

Coincidentally, Maggie's last name being Beckett was a homage to Quantum Leap, they took it further by revealing her father's name was a military high-up named Thomas Beckett which was Sam's also brother's name and IIRC they really wanted to do some sort of crossover with the idea that she was Sam's niece but it never came to be.

I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet. It's prime material for a reboot. I feel like rewatching the first few seasons now.

I used to really enjoy this as a kid. Pavarotti episode was funny because for ages I used to think that was him, then they did the episode.

Wouldn't mind a reboot or a continuation. Wasn't the last episode where they (main guy and the new blonde girl) arrived to a future and the other group was elsewhere? Rimrat stayed in a time he was famous, or something. Might be merging multiple episodes together...

Such a great pilot and it looked like a good Sliders successor. Shame noone picked it up with all the trash Netflix throws money at.

I want a Sliders where they travel to truly alien realities, or familiar but horrific worlds like the Parallel Monsters segment of V/H/S: Viral
There was one episode where they were briefly in a world inhabited only by monstrous parasites and the new girl got infected with one and carried it to the next world. That world had more advanced cryogenics technology which they were able to use to force the parasite to crawl out of her mouth before it killed her.

This was one of my favorite shows growing up. Watched it every week with the fams. Every episode was a new adventure and it was great TV (until they introduced the brother). I would love to see a reboot or continuation with as much of the original cast as possible. A few of those episodes really stuck with me.

Yeah it was a cool show. Really the first three seasons had some great stuff in them.

The show declines after John Rhys Davies leaves.

I just loved the first 2.5 seasons.
Then it became really weird, with the cast getting fed up and leaving one after another.
Showing eps out of order was also infuriating (even in France I don't think they were always shown in order).

The way they slowly replaced all the original cast with inferior new characters instead of just ending the show was so fucking weird. Like why would you even keep watching the show when it's no longer about the original characters trying to get back home any more.

One of my favorites as a kid, would love to see it rebooted but on the other hand without a nice budget this can easily go wrong.

I love how the professor was secretly replaced by a counterpart at one point, and the producers decided to drop that plot point later, so for the rest of the series no one cares that the real professor got stuck somewhere in an alternate world.

I used to love this show, but after Arturo dies it really does go down the drain. I am surprised no one has attempted a reboot. It's a great concept.

Squeaky gate and space above and beyond, what a nostalgia bomb this post was. I enjoyed me some nipple neck.

I tweeted about this three days ago and Jerry O'Connell liked a reply to me. It was surreal, haha.

There are so many ways they could reboot it. We never actually saw Wade die and the real Arturo is still stuck in blue golden gate bridge world.

SLIDERS. I loved the concept and premise. I loved the first few seasons of the show with the original cast, but I didn't like the later seasons at all. It was such a great idea for a scifi show.

For me to be interested if it's rebooted, it'd have to be a hard reboot that starts over from the beginning. I don't want any continuation from where the series left off. And I don't want the new series to follow the direction the later seasons took.

I'd also be OK with similar concept/premise show under a different name. It's a shame that Parallels show on Netflix only got a pilot episode and no series order.

We see her die. There's an episode where you learn the kromags did an experiment on Wade to put her mind in a computer or something. If I remember correctly she self-destructs at the end.

i think a lot of it has to do with how shows can't quite get away with being cornball anymore. production standards are quite higher now. stuff like Xena, Hercules, Sliders ect would probably be pretty costly reboots today

You should probably turn your TV to the CW every once in a while.

Sliders is so silly but it's a lot of fun. I ended up buying a cheap box of the trading cards last year too. It was fun opening the packs while watching the series.

I really hate the way they got rid of his character. He really deserved more respect.
