It's been almost 20 years and yeah wanted it for a long time but at this point and the damage that was done with how the fifth season played out, never mind the bullshit from the third with killing off Auturo. At least that could still be handwaved away but they'd have to pretty much ignore most of season five to really do it properly. It'd probably be better off with some sort of full on reset at this point and I'm not sure I'd be interested. I think the rights are with Universal just as they are with Quantum Leap. Even though I think I liked Sliders more I'd still rather finally get that Quantum Leap reboot, Dean Stockwell isn't getting any younger, at this point they'd probably have to go the Sam and Al's grand children route or some shit.
It was never all that good or even popular so I imagine whoever owns the rights to it doesn't really give a shit.
I'd also say TV, and sci-fi TV in particular focusing more on serialized storytelling more often these days means a reboot wouldn't be in fashion. Now we have TV shows like Fringe or The Man in the High Castle that explore a concept for an episode of Sliders over the course of several seasons.
Sliders was a fine for what it was and being a product of its time and in large part the victim of network meddling by Fox and later bullshit that limited its potential, also not helped Sci-Fi network TV shows has pretty much always had a niche audience and typically struggle, after it got moved Sliders was the highest rated show on the Sci-Fi Channel even as it was abruptly cancelled so it was popular enough. It wasn't so much serialized but that could easily be changed to have mini-arcs Tracy Tormé did want to have some light serialization and with some arcs and everything but Fox didn't like it and what little there was got thrown out of order or dropped, worse when he was forced out and that hack David Peckinpah (who thought Wade Wells being captured and sent to a Kromagg breeding/rape camp was funny) got put in place in the third season.
Remember that episode where they got home but didn't believe it because of all the crazy real world news that had happened since they'd left? They could do an entire series where they never visit a parallel world and instead keep sliding to different parts of real Earth only to keep dismissing it because it's 2018.
To this day possibly the most frustrating minute of television for me.
Quantum Leap and Sliders are like the Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross of TV shows
Or are Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross like the Quantum Leap and Sliders of video games? I was so over hyped on Chrono Cross using the parallel worlds concept because of Sliders and then super disappointed with how limited it turned out to be.
Coincidentally, Maggie's last name being Beckett was a homage to Quantum Leap, they took it further by revealing her father's name was a military high-up named Thomas Beckett which was Sam's also brother's name and IIRC they really wanted to do some sort of crossover with the idea that she was Sam's niece but it never came to be.
