yikes, just saw one of those 4k vids and it included a boss that i had not seen yet.

Careful people. I will avoid all future videos on this game from now on
Well, unlike the opening of the game, that fight was sanctioned by Insomniac to be a-okay for general viewing since it was included in their B-roll. But yeah, if you want to go into this game blind then absolutely bow out now. We still have the Gamescom trailer to go (and maybe a launch trailer if that isn't the Gamescom trailer) and being so close to release, it will contain a bunch of spoilers.

I don't see them having a Gamescom trailer, I think the only thing that's left is the launch trailer.

Do we even know when the review embargo for this will be up? Are they letting it drop a week out like God of War or the day before?

I love towers!!!

Easily prefer it over walking throughout every street, alleyway, etc. to reveal the map. Climbing a tower to reveal the map is simply better and faster. So happy about this. Plus, the view when you're on top of the tower will look amazing.

Reading the last page or so, what's this about NO HUD OPTIONS? This can't be true. Watching a few gameplay videos, there has to be an option to turn off all of those damn hints and tips. Hate that shit.

Will never understand why developers don't include full on/off settings for the HUD, mini-map (if applicable) and world map options. This way allows everyone to play the way the way that they want. So disappointed now. :(

Why not? It's one of Europe's biggest video game events and it's on just two weeks before the launch of the game. Great place for a final bow in Europe (along with a final bow at PAX West at the end of August / start of September, but that one would probably just be a demo) .

I started watching the old 90s Spider-Man TAS in anticipation of the game. Did the same thing with The Batman TAS when arkham asylum was releasing.

Probably watch all the movies too, even the awful Spider-Man 3 and Amazing Spider-Man 2.

If anything it will be the launch trailer, them releasing another trailer 2 weeks before release and then a launch trailer seems weird to me, but I dunno.

No this a second party release .Sony policy on second party is a day before release.they do a week before for first party .

So it's safe to assume a day before release

Is it written somewhere that this is a policy? I don't think that's true. It doesn't seem like Sony are treating this like the Order, they are going all out for Spider-Man, I can't see it following in that games footsteps as far as what they do with reviews.

I'd like to know this too.

Small complaint but it's mildly annoying that every sony game patches in photo mode a few weeks after launch. I'm usually done with the game by then and I'm not the type to immediately replay most games so I don't get to really use it until I go back to the game many months later.

Photo mode will be in for launch. We're gonna try to make a video about it to show it off a bit too, but we'll see.

Yeah I just wish the marketing team would be more open about it. My guess is journalists that got to preview the game played a whole lot of that 5 hours doing next to nothing but web slinging and stuff, there was probably very little of the story content.

It's a sandbox and all so I bet exploring and what not will play a huge role on how long the game is, but it'd be great if the story content excluding the crime fighting and misc stuff was to be 20+ hours.

yeah, honestly I just don't know what that timing should be. User tests were all over the place in terms of length given players have a ton of open-world stuff they can do.

And I don't want to say some lower bound and then have someone try and speed-run the story and tell us we were lying or whatever. I'll be talking to folks when I'm back in the States late next week and trying to decide what the formal answer is.

Suffice to say though, the story stuff in the preview build, with playing just a little bit of side stuff is about 2.5 hours. That's with hardly any other activities unlocked. I think in 4-5 hours, people were level 7-8 (out of 50).

2.5 hours is barely scratching the surface here.

Leveling Up
Almost everything Spider-Man does in the game nets the player experience points. When enough XP is earned, a message will appear onscreen alerting you that a new level has been reached. This milestone rewards you with a skill point that can be used to gain a new power. Each level also rewards you with set bonuses. When I reached level three, my melee damage increased 10 percent. At level five, I earned a 10 percent health boost. Some powers, suits, and gadgets cannot be unlocked unless the player reaches specific levels. For instance, to improve the impact web gadget, you'll need to reach level 10 to up the knockback range, level 15 for the maximum number of shots, level 20 to increase the knockback range again, and level 25 to add a cascade effect. Cascade spreads webbing to enemies if they collide with one another. Out of all of the level-based unlocks, level 50 was the highest requirement. We'll have to wait to see if that's the cap.

LOL that's the closest I've ever read to apolitical games journalism

So dry my lips are smacking
Haha I got it all figured out man.i m sure the review are amazing so by releasing a week before the launch sale will get a big boost like God of War did after embargo was lifted .we have sources saying the preorders exploded after embargo for gow.

Not America
Here's me really hoping that Insomniac has taken advantage of DS4's touchpad akin to God of War with regards to HUD management. Off topic (but also on topic): HUD management is such a crucial element when trying to enjoy a game without being overburdened at every moment. Currently playing through Deus Ex: MD, and boy do I miss GoW's implementation. It really gets in the way of taking snaps.

Mm nice thats good to know, thanks! I remember God of War being open about it before release and it being lenghty was really well received. It's always good to have a approximation imo, there'll always be completionists and speed run players to skew the numbers, but what Ive found over the years in my personal experience is that devs can still give a good indication of it nonetheless. Defintely am interested in what you'll find out in the coming week!

I feel bad for game developers when it comes to this honestly. Insomniac has said that the game is lengthy and meaty, but it's so hard to pinpoint what it will take every player to complete. It's like being stuck between a rock and a hard place, even when reviews come out and they put a length to it, people still aren't satisfied when it gets into their hands because their playtime didn't mirror what the reviewer said. It's a hard thing to nail down.

It's one of those things where you either get the game ASAP or you delay a week to a month and put in photomode isn't it?

I'm sure photomode is on most devs' roadmap since it's been a hit of a feature since the PS4's reveal. Not to mention all the free advertising.

I just got the Legacy steelbook 4K with those two in it. 3 actually comes with an editor's cut. Is it any good do you know?

Is Amazing 1 actually good?

It would be so awesome if Bryan Intihar created an account on ERA and joined us for the hype like Cory did.

I wonder if he even seen the avatar spider-fy thread.

I was watching a Spidey preview earlier on today and as i watched him swing through NYC i (me as an athlete) couldn't help but think of how totally drenched in sweat his suit ends up.

If I strike away the spiderman fanboyism that surrounds this game and add the fact that I never played a spiderman game before, will I like this game?
I mean I like super heros, but I don't know a lot about spiderman and his villains. Just watched the films and that's it.
Arkham asylum blew me away despite only knowing the joker, harley quinn and poison ivy from the villains.

This game seems to be going the same way quality wise as the Arkham games. You won't need to know anything going in, I'm sure they have that covered and have info on everyone you come across if you'd like to learn more about them like the Arkham games have.

Yep, they do.

Character Bios
When new villains and people of interest appear in the story, they are added to a character bios tab. You can click on each one to learn more about who they are.

Oh man I'm soooo hoping that the suit power for the Iron spidey costume (infinity war) has the 4 metal legs popping out of his back for a combo or something.

Though I feel like chances are that it won't since the powers can be interchanged between costumes.

All we assume you know is that Spider-Man is a guy who got bit by a Spider and has powers now. So you'll be good to go

Amazing 1 is decent. If nothing else, Andrew Garfield delivers funny quips and the CGI holds up better than the raimi trilogy. Emma Stone is arguably the GOAT love interest in a Marvel film. The suit is really unique. And the film has one of the best Stan Lee cameos in it as a bonus.

Can't speak on the editors cut of SM3 as I have not seen it but hey, it can't get any worse right?

Well according to some I guess the editor's cut is actually better. It gets rid of the Butler scene and some other problems. I am sure it isn't great, but anything is probably better than the normal one.

I'm a big fan of Spider-Man and I have been trying my best to not get overly hyped for this game but the more I'm hearing about it and seeing, the more excited I'm getting. Thank you to the folks at Insomniac, you seem to have created something truly special that we all can not wait to get our hands on!
