Well, for people that want the true JP experience they can always mute the voices and just read the text.

Cant wait. Picking this up on steam day one. Will actually start playing once someone gets that orchestrated sound track modded in though ;)

Why wouldn't it have a voice volume slider?
There have been games that made bad decisions regarding volume control, look up Xenoblade Chronicles X for the "I wish i could turn down music during cutscenes/Turn up character voices because music is too damn loud" issue.

Voice acting is never even close to as bad as some of y'all make it out to be. Ffs you are playing a jrpg. Shit sounds weird sometimes. That's hardly the most important part to a jrpg anyway.

To each their own, but lmao at choosing to play the entire game with speech bubbles instead of voices because its not in japanese

Is the music grating or does it kind of grow on you?

I feel like this is every fan's largest concern with the game, tbh.

There's one town theme (daytime) that is really aggressive on the synth horns at one point, but overall the music has been great. It's not one of those things where JP version got an orchestral score and we have to deal with synth and midi. The OST is the same in both versions, and I think it's great. Thankfully the opening overture march is orchestrated and it's as inspiring as ever. ^_^

Just about a month now. Really looking forward to this, more excited for this than any other release this year aside from Red Dead.

The voice acting seems fine. The DQ8 voices could also sound off in a quick trailer like that too.

If I'm being honest, it sounds bad. And worse, none of the characters seem interesting.

I bought a Pro in part for this game, so I'm definitely getting it. I hope it's good.

for those that played the japanese version, is Sylvando good in battle? He's by far my favorite character design wise so I definitely want to use him in my party

Well, this at least answers one of my issues; according to the DQ twitter, there is a volume slider for voices, BGM, and sound effects (link).

I don't care if the voices are in japanese or english, I just don't wanna hear any voices in a DQ game, IMO they ruin all the literary appeal.

Game looks so nice. Hopefully I'll enjoy it. I'm going to give it a chance.

I wanted the 3DS version, but it's regionlocked.

Oh ho, you're in for a good surprise.

Those Japanese voice actors are quite something. :P
There's no "original voice overs"; the game did not have voice acting in Japan.
Maybe it's me just waking up but damn did I laugh too hard

Voice acting is phenomenal.

.....but the music kills it. It was distracting in the trailer and it'll be distracting in the game

EDIT: people are being ridiculous about voice acting as usual

Each character has a niche and will be useful in battle, him included. You can freely swap party members in battle and all living members inactive or active gain experience. You will definitely find yourself using everyone, which I really liked.

Oh wow, that's awesome, I didn't know that aspect of the battle system

That's fair. I'll never understand the logic behind the stubborness for japanese voices only if you don't even know japanese. How can someone even tell if the VA is good or not if they dont even understand the language?

I don't mind if people prefer the japanese, but to completely mute it and play it with text boxes purely because its only english? That's just lol

Anyone knows if the english version is revealing a PSN code for DQI after finishing the game like the japanese version?

Any word on this?

We won't hear anyone talk shit about the voice acting one hour into the game. It's just like DQ8, the voice acting is going to be great when you get used to the accents.

Looking forward to this game. Love the VA indifferent to the music. The CE ordered and scheduled time to play it.

Didn't know Sylvando, he sounds great. Will get this as soon as I'm done with Spider-Man.

Sounds great! I really don't understand why Square keeps trying to push this game in the west. It is NOT going to have an Octopath Traveler moment in the sun, I guarantee it.

But god bless them for trying! I'll be there day one.

SE is throwing this game under the bus for Tomb Raider. It's obvious that where the marketing budget went.

Voice acting sounds pretty good to me.

It's one of the only things they did right with the localization.

Too bad they fucked up just about every other aspect of bringing DQ to the west.......again.

Not going to watch but in previous trailer the voice acting sounded fine to me.

Super hyped to play this and even scheduled a few days off from work the first week of September for it.

The dialogue is fine I guess but all the battle grunting and stuff is pretty cringeworthy. Wish there was an option to keep on voice acting but turn off battle voices

Man, why would they change the names when those were pretty much common western names? Makes no sense to me.

I'm curious what you think they fucked up about this. They took a while to bring it over, there's no denying that (even though this is one of the faster localizations they have done afaik). But what else?
They've ported the game to PC, made a bunch of quality of life changes and just generally made it what seems to be a better version than the japanese one as far as I can tell.
The music is the same I guess?

I am simultaneously excited for this game and sort of disappointed by the characters, at least at first glance. They're all well-designed and visually interesting, but... haven't I played every one of them before? In a DQ game? I see what appears to be a very Angelo-like character, a Jessica, a Morrie, a Red... maybe I should expect that from a DQ game by now, but I am still waiting for a modern game in the series that takes the DQ7/9 approach to character building.
