Received my physical copy of Code of Princess EX, have been playing it for a bit.

- framerate is very smooth (to be expected).
- you can tell that it's a 3ds port as there are still jaggies when screen is zoomed in during story sequences.
- I found the combat to be clunky at first without a sense of flow until I looked up combos. I had to play around with it for a bit until it "clicked".
-game is voice acted in Japanese with english subs and the anime cutscenes are nice

It's an average game, not too bad and not too good. Guardian Heroes port when?

On another note, all this Yoku talk made me wonder why I hadn't bought the game and I remembered that I was waiting for a physical release. I ordered that as well as Flashback physical from Amazon UK. Loving the fact that indies and "small" games get physical release and lack of region-locking.

Bought Iconoclasts on a whim and really loving it. Sat down and played for three hours straight (rare I do that anymore). The core gameplay is rock solid and while I've heard bad things about the story, I like it so far. The characters have great personality.

Really like the aesthetic too. Reminds me a lot of Mario and Luigi on GBA. There doesn't seem to be much reason to explore though? I just get parts to unlock the tweaks and it seems like that's it.

Hopefully it keeps up the higher quality over the rest of the game.

I was curious about Code of Princess and I would like to pick it up on a deep sale. Honestly I should have just bought the non EX version on steam when it was on sale for around $5, but I don't know how extensive the changes are in this version.

Sounds like I was smart in either waiting for a sale or just borrowing or buying it off my friend. The framerate being fixed is the one thing I'm super glad was addressed, but I wonder if that's enough to have the game finally click for me after all these years.

I do seriously hope we get more Treasure ports. I'm glad that Ikagura is back on current consoles, Gunstar Heroes got the 3D Classics treatment (HELL YEAH) & is on Sega Genesis Classics, and they even put Alien Soldier on that same collection as well, plus Dynamite Headdy had been ported a few times, but MAN there is so much missing like Mischief Makers, the original Bangai-O, Silhouette Mirage (especially the Saturn version that didn't have its mechanics messed with for the US PS1 version), Gunstar Super Heroes, Radiant Silvergun needs to escape XBLA & be on other current systems, etc.

I bought Code of Princess on the 3DS on a eShop sale an eternity ago but never got around to play it. I wonder if the Switch port is worth double dipping.

I don't understand Mexican eShop pricing.

Why does every game have some weird specific price? They don't have standard prices like $9.99, 14.99, 19.99.

For example, in the US Salt & Sanctuary and Iconoclasts are both $19.99, but in Mexico they're 339.99 and 379.99 respectively. Other games have prices all over the place, like 174.41, 155.20, 193.81, 232.61, 250.00 etc.

Why are some game so much cheaper and others so much more expensive? Street Fighter 30th Anniversary is normally 999.99, which is $54 USD!

Would a Mexican citizen be judged by Era for buying SFA30th from the US eShop the way US citizens are judged for buying from the Mexico eShop?

What's ironic about your last bit there Hothamboy, is I always see you judging people for waiting on the US eshop to buy, after the initial pre-order discount of a couple or few bucks is gone. I'm pretty sure you've stated you buy significantly cheaper games from the Mexican eshop, (I think/assume you do), yet often tell...others...to spend that extra few bucks to give to indie developers that could use the extra love. But...when you buy a Mexican eshop game at 2/3's or half the US eshop price, aren't they getting far less from that sale, going to a US citizen?

Man, I love this thread. Ive enjoyed reading people's detailed discussions and criticism all day about each weekly release.

Keep it up guys!

Which is why post like posting images from Metacritic when someone asked how the Switch version of a game is stifles what is honestly amazing about this thread.

I think what's great about this thread, is everyone jumps into the gaming ring here, to speak from a deep passion for games, and most likely we all feel our attitudes and opinions have weight, when in reality they're simply that, opinions. I love the bullshit artist nature of this forum. I myself am an artist, and a subscriber to said art..!

What's so "crappy" about this port, is the blatant "GUARDIAN HEROES" text posted on the back of the box, at least in the US, and even in a similar font and color. That.....is so, soooooo cruel. Yargh!!!!

Damn. I'm all for supporting old ass ports, I even bought Go Vacation, but this....this.......

Why can't EA throw out Boom Blox. I'd take that as an old ass port any day, or it's sequel but Ubisoft....this?!!!?

The handheld mode is on the same level as the docked mode IMO, since you can zoom in/out with the shoulder buttons. No touch screen support.

You should get the for the single player and local multiplayer modes, not for the online. I have only been able to find occasional ranked online matches, not unranked online matches.

The single player content in the game is split up into 5 subsections: Training (20 levels), Campaign (31), Challenge (10), Extra (5), Bonus (7).
Thanks, I bought it and I guess I'll spend hours again on Worms.

And again, we....need.... AA and AAA support on the Switch. WWE18 was a horrible port. Payday 2 and Titan Quest are not. One didn't deserve sales, and the other two deserved sales from interested parties, not put off by people parroting gloom and doom

I bought Wolfenstein 2, again on the Switch in June, after buying the PC Collector's edition last fall. I bought Crash, even though I disdain the series. But what other current gen, current third part releases have come out lately or will come out? I'll rebuy DragonBall FighterZ.. again but damn it, I'd prefer to buy most games on Switch, and day and date. If people thrash third party support...unjustly....we all suffer.

I'll never understand this. Buy a game because you want to play it, not for some vague, nebulous hope that your purchase will bring more AA and AAA games to the Switch. If a game has issues - Titan Quest on the Switch is "an admirable ARPG that gets lost in a less than thoughtful Switch port", according to no less than Eurogamer - then they should be brought up, and that's not "parroting gloom and doom", that's just being realistic.

Ugh, we need to make informed buying decisions & not rally one another to purchase titles simply to encourage AA & AAA support on any given platform...

I agree with this 100%.

You're truly missing the point I was making....

I don't want...anyone...to buy a game for any other reason than them wanting it. What I..do..want, is for people to...not...talk others out of games they're really interested in, when they have ZERO first hand experience with that game.

And for me supporting third parties, that's for me to do, not for anyone else, and here are My reasons why. I do it...when I'm interested in a game...because Wii U support was atrocious, and before that Wii support was often shovelware after the first few golden years. That can happen again, if large third parties don't see Nintendo-like million copy sales for their games. And if that does happen again, it's a quick reboot or retooling all over again. And I'd prefer for Nintendo to build on the Switch's initial success, versus repeating the Wii U's demise.

(And again...YOU parrotted an outside doom and gloom source.) Sorry, but I actually do read sites AND people on this and other boards to help guide my purchases. But I get as excited or dismayed, from users on here commenting from firsthand experiences, as much as some writer for a site that I've never directly chatted with or read their causal personal thoughts on other titles on a forum like this one.

I believe you are mistaken. I've never admonished anyone for wanting to save money on games. In fact the reason you know I buy MXN eShop games is because I've posted prices before. I post US sale prices for games I recommend, too.

What I have done is comment that I don't understand why one of these $1-2 discounts is enough to convince people to buy a game. Just because it's on sale, I guess? That $1.50 off was the sweet spot?

Unrelated, but I've always wondered why you use so many seemingly random ellipsis.

Did you make a blind purchase? There are legit problems with this release that has affected gamers that purchased it. Do you own other systems? Titan Quest has been out since March & stability + the occasional corrupt Save still lingers on the PS4 & XB1 platforms. There have been a few patches that have somewhat decreased the occurrence of these very issues. Critics I'm sure, have had a copy to review & aren't making shit up. There are overwhelmingly more negative reviews than positive impressions.

You do not have to own the product to make sense of its value. I had hoped that the Switch version would be "fixed" because of the later release from the PS4 & XB1; I thoroughly research what I buy, & nope, it's still a dice roll. Like my friend said, it played fine at first...

Ugh, we need to make informed buying decisions & not rally one another to purchase titles simply to encourage AA & AAA support on any given platform...

Okay...

I will say that judging from the patch notes off of the PS4 & XB1 ports, the fixes do mirror the bugs that were reported by users. Yet, gamers on those platforms are saying the benefits are a coin toss. I highly doubt those affected aren't posting simply to hurt THQ. The announcement of Titan Quest was a nice surprise for me, I really hope the patches & QOL options keep coming.
Word up.

Hell no, 1-2$ sales do nothing for me... I would have bought Wizards but not for a dollar off, gonna wait for a better sale.

So how often are the eShop sales? Is it once a month?

What do you mean? There's new discounts every week. It's up to the publishers. I feel like you see a lot of the same games go one sale every 4-6 weeks. Then you have other games that go on sale every few months. And then you have games that have yet to go on sale at all (Skyrim, most Nintendo...).

As someone who took up as part of his writing duties to make note of new Switch eShop sales and when sales end, yep, it's up to the pubs/devs. The most new sales occur on Thursdays in North America at least, with the second day most new sales happen is Tuesday, at least from my short period of writing about sales. Other sales just pop up and then end on whatever the heck day of the week they want. heh

I swear you've cajoled people into buying a game at full price, when it went off pre-order sale for maybe a difference of $2 extra, stating an attitude of just buy it anyway, the developers deserve it. So I'm pointing out the irony of you wanting...others...to give extra cash, but you removing that extra cash from the transaction and developers pockets yourself, when you buy via the Mexican eshop.

I do for emphasis. Using commas or capitalizing everything constantly feels about as bizarre. (You know why I do that with elipses, come on dude!) Nothing feels fluid in text, as it would via speech, so I'm trying to emphasize phrasing.

When I run into that first game crashing/save erasing bug, trust me....I'll acknowledge it first on this site. Until then, the game has been a genuine delight for the three or more hours I've played it. Sucks to enjoy this great port. Sucks even more to enjoy it portably....

First-hand experience is not the be all and end all. An opinion or a review from a trusted site is as valid a source of information as your opinion, because hey they've played the game as well. My personal opinion is I'd trust a site like Eurogamer over, to be frank, someone like you, who has a vested interest in people buying AA or AAA games on Switch and has spent a good deal of money on Titan Quest, and therefore cannot be trusted not to be biased.

And jesus quoting an article is not 'parroting an outside doom and gloom source'.

What do you mean by "no less than Eurogamer"? Is there something special when Eurogamer writes about games, compared to other sites, or compared to players here who have first hand experience with the game?

Eurogamer are one of the most respected games sites in the business. And there's nothing that makes their opinion - one that again is also based on first-hand experience - more valid than anyone else's. But my personal opinion is they seem to strive for at least some form of unbiasedness, as opposed to the fawning and dismissal of any criticism that you sometimes get from first-hand impressions in games' OTs.

Celeste has a lot in common with Rive in how it's structured. I really like being able to enjoy the difficulty without the frustration of failure.

It's also a funny coincidence that I just played Hollow Knight which has very similar platforming puzzle segments!

Edit: Downloading some sort of update now actually. Man, this poor Zyddie person dealing with all the flack. Looks like they're well aware and working on many things at once, and are very in touch with the community.

Fans have been raging for months with issues on the prior two versions, and the Q/A Team seem to be coping as best they can. I'm glad the Switch version came out a few months late, at this point, most likely to avoid a lot of these same issues.

https://www.reddit.com/r/TitanQuest...untered_after_the_27th_of_june_2018/?sort=new

We agree entirely on what you were replying to in my comment up above, the one you just replied to. I stated users on here, that I have familiarity with, can dissuade or encourage my viewpoints...as much...as outside writers can. I appreciate and weigh both styles of viewpoints when considering games. I concur with you AND myself! :)

Doom and gloom, yes. Because from what I recall, that Eurogamer article stated positives and negatives about this port, and people are largely referencing the negatives to fuel their discouragement of themselves, and others, in not buying the game. So pointing out solely negative things, and not weighing positives, is doom and gloom style thinking. To me, anyway.

I previously stated I saw the third Avengers movie, in a reply to someone else, twice and I thought it stunk both times. I wanted to make sure I didn't really enjoy it, so I watched it a bit more closely the second time. I'm the weird type of person, that actually doubles down exposure wise when I don't like something, to make sure I feel my opinion feels more valid for me when I'm airing it publicly, and when I express it. I don't care for Crash, and bought that series port not just to support AAA ports, but also because it as well had a price error, and I also wanted to make sure I wasn't judging the series harshly. Crazy ideas there...

Well, this all feels odd, defending enjoying a game I bought, to several users that haven't bought it, and can verify if said port sucks. It's been a wearing argument, and if anyone wants to debate this crap more, feel free to message me. I don't wish to push this thread on my end, any further down this road. It's also not fun.

And yes, I'd trust a Eurogamer review more than myself, or you, so that point doesn't necessarily sting my ego, or diminish my credibility for whatever it's worth too much anyway. I enjoy that site myself, and until you or I blog together for years and years, I'd say we're not as trusted sources in the public eye as they happen to be.

(I just reread that review, by the way, and it's a somewhat crappy write up, in the sense that half of it details the premise of the ten year old plus game rather than focus on the port, but also regarding the issues present are more due to the UI not being transformed to function more easily on consoles, and scaled text to work better for the Switch. Multiple users have stated here, including myself, that the text is passable while playing handheld. And the mouse to analog function is definitely not as good, or as bad, as it could be, but again that's more an issue of all three ports, than this one in particular. So....it's a crappy port not worth buying due to the mouse to analog transition, solely then??? Based on this article, that's a weak argument.

Nowhere does she mention any save file issues, which people have incessantly stated is an issue in the other ports, and something they fear to be in this one, and a reason why they're holding off purchase.)

*deposition over*

Oh man, you've highlighted this game in the July thread and I think you even mentioned Rollcage, but the name didn't ring a bell. Well, now that I've watched the demo... I freaking loved Rollcage on my PSX! Hope this turns out fine!
that was someone else. I've posted about it but you're probably thinking of another user who called out Rollcage in their post.

I feel like you're being disingenuous there to be honest. Your first post reply to the person's question was the picture of the meta critic page. That isn't steering the conversation in any which way, it was trying the make the person look stupid for asking the question.

The thing is you don't NEED to answer the questions. You don't run the thread, if you haven't got an answer to a question someone poses you don't have to address, just leave it for someone else who might have something to say. It stifles conversation and might put people off asking questions and that in turn will spoil the conversations in this thread.
You're now ascribing an intent that simply wasn't there. It was an answer to the question. A compilation from several sources that support the idea that the game seems to be thought of universally as "good," which was the question. Hence the idea of then moving on to more specifics with more questions. I don't know why this is such a stumbling block. What bugs me about it is that me posting an image of reviews I compiled or pointing someone to a search to find impressions I know are on other pages already is somehow automatically seen as some sort of attack or being thread police or whatever. I just don't get that part. Would it help if I dressed it up with greetings and thanks and well wishes? I like giving simple answers to simple questions if they are not addressed already and I know where to find them or whatever the case may be in any given situation.

Almost everything is a roguelite these days but fortunately that covers a lot of genres. Still, as mich as i love roguelite design I do appreciate a game that provides linear progression.

Celeste is also the rare modern game that doesn't dangle carrots with constant upgrades. It has a huge impact on level deaign.

Does anyone else like to have a nice spread of genre representation on their device? Do you like to balance your acquisitions so that you're not overloaded with one genre?
Yep.

It's actually what's bumming me out about Dead Cells. I've been looking forward to that game for a while now but I have so much roguelikes on my Switch, I feel kind of foolish buying it.

That said, I could never have about RPG's or VN's on this thing.

That's pretty much why I keep giving chances to stuff like Sky Rogue over Rogue Aces despite the latter being showered with praise, why I got into Riptide GP instead of just buying Splasher.

Gotta spice it up or all the easy quality buys will be 2D platform/action games.

How good is Worms WMD in handheld mode? The sale is tempting.

Does it have good solo? Is the online multiplayer still crowded?

I think you said you already bought this game. I have to say that while the game runs fine, I don't like this crafting nonsense. I guess I'm just an old man at this point, yelling at the kids to get off my lawn. I just want to play! If I wanted to craft I'd go out to my garage.

There's also a demo for Yoku's Island Express out today as well on the eShop, if you haven't already purchased it:

OH, wow, thanks! I'll probably by this game, but if I like the demo I might buy it a lot faster.

Anyway, as to the argument about debuting something at a high price and having it fall over time, it's interesting to see people who are probably all yay market-based consumption-orientated capitalism argue against something for the wrong reasons. I saw one person say that people will just stop buying at launch. Yah, right. Video Games are one of the most launch heavy industries and that's on the gamers. Like movies where it comes out at the expensive theatres, then the cheap theatres, than on demand/pay per view, then Netflix.

I usually wait until Netflix. Especially now that it's hard to coordinate date night with 2 very young children.

Pay to be the first to enjoy a luxury purchase is pretty much the entire basis of our economy. Whenever I hear people complain that they have to wait two months it's funny, because I have found they are really just entitled with no self-control or patience, rather than people who actually want to overthrow our luxy/distraction based economy...

(Says the guy in a luxury purchase thread.)

Yeah I've gotten pretty fed up with roguelites at this point. It's so rare to find ones that have solid level design to back up their randomness, generally it's one or the other. That said, Flinthook is one of those I feel absolutely nails it. Gonner is also pretty solid because it's barely got roguelite elements, the randomisation is relatively minor and for the most part it's just a really difficult and well crafted platformer.

Titan Quest has been fun. Haven't had issues with it playing well. There has been one crash but I've had a lot of games crash (Paladins, Overcooked, etc,). Some items do sort of glitch on chests but usually they are stuff you'd either pass on or sell immediately. I need to stop exploring and progress the story because I think that will give me more cool stuff.

Plague Road is selling for a buck. While I love deals, I always take 93% discounts with a grain of salt.
I saw the trailer and it looks pretty cool. Anyone have hands-on experience with it?

Wow. So I just got Celeste last night and was playing today when I heard music that sounded maddeningly familiar.

I figured it out.

Celeste - Awake (go to 1:08)

28 Days Later - In The House - In A Heartbeat

Awake sounds like a gentle piano arrangement of the most memorable piece of music in 28 Days Later. It's almost the same song.

They are both based on the harmonic minor scale, with a heavy emphasis on the 7th degree of the scale in the melody, which is what gives it that unsettling feeling. It's a common sound in music. It's possible that the Celeste song was influenced by 28 days later, but it is something that has been used for a long time for that effect. Both are great pieces of music, in my opinion.

Half of me is EXCITED for Mini Metro...but not at $10. I bought it on my phone for a couple dollars. Not sure how the game will work with 4 player which is the only additional feature.

that was someone else. I've posted about it but you're probably thinking of another user who called out Rollcage in their post.
Might be me, I'm a big fan of arcade racers and keep tooting the Grip <--> Rollcage connection every chance I get.

Devs did a nice update awhile back for this game. A pretty big update to textures and physics if I remember correctly. Played the original on wii and loved it so much I bought again on Switch lol
It doesn't support gyro aim, does it? I'd pick it up for a tenner if it did, can't play shooters without them any more.

When the price is so low on a middling game, I always think of what I could be doing rather than wasting time with mediocrity. I know it's received poor feedback from other in the thread when it's previously been on sale at this price :)

I'd rather pay a bit more for a game I know I'll like, since I value my time most of all.

Lol, saw subaracity posted by chronomac and thought it'd be a city building game cos I want one.

And when I heard there was a new Wario Ware game...but on 3ds.

Nothing but disappointments lol

Yeah, it becomes less about the value of the money it costs an more about the value of your time aoent playing it.
