It was one of the first games I bought on my switch.

It's... I mean it's bomberman, there's nothing special, but that's the charm right? It's just bomberman, 8 player. It's good fun.

I live in a giant bucket.
This game is such a success story: went from being okay at launch to being massively improved via free QOL updates. And it revived Bomberman in the process!

Well-deserved. Looking forward to the inevitable sequel.

This is really great news. I've loved this franchise since the beginning and was shocked to see it as a launch title for Switch. Bomberman was the first game I popped in my Switch, and while it wasn't great at launch, they've sure worked to improve it over time to the point where it's a great entry in the series.

Hopefully this inspires Konami to continue the series, though my dream is that Nintendo takes over all the old Hudson franchises. Imagine: Nintendo-made Bomberman, Star Soldier, Adventure Island...BONK...

As an aside, seeing people shit on this thread because Bomberman sold well and people enjoy it is...interesting?

Oh yeah, for sure. I'm wondering if they'll just keep Bomberman a Nintendo--exclusive in the future.

Better yet let Nintendo take on an entry themselves with a 3D game developed by ND Cube and who they can get from Over Fence (RIP).

Nintendo exclusive? Probably not but I guess it's likely the next entry won't miss Switch, if there's one...

What I don't get, wasn't Nintendo supposedly important in making this game coming to existence?

Yeah according to Siliconera:

http://www.siliconera.com/2017/01/13/super-bomberman-r-is-being-made-by-former-bomberman-staff/

I spoke with a Konami rep, who funny enough provided some of the hardest behind the scenes details of any of the games played. As for when led to its development, was told that both Nintendo and Konami came together to help make it happen in the first place, and the team responsible is comprised of Konami's internal team, which is comprised of former Hudson folk who worked on past Bomberman games, and Hexadrive (Final Fantasy Type-0 HD and The 3rd Birthday).

But in the same way Sony did with Crash I guess. Also the bit about former Hudson folks working on SBR seemed false since the credits showed like none IIRC. There were a few KojiPro folks though.

This game is not bad but it is very basic. If you just want Bomberman on your Switch then that's what it is. If you're someone who likes to play traditional Bomberman from time to time you would like it.

I wonder if it's significant that an IP previous flooded with low quality games taking a break and making its fanbase miss them suddenly received a successful title.

Back in the 00s you could find criticism of Mega Man's stagnation with a stone's throw.

Reviews are bad. Sales outside of Switch also bad.
See now this is misleading because actually going to the store page shows that people are more upset that the port is bad and nobody can get online.
Super Bomberman R was mediocre at launch but has had a lot of improvement and support since then and while it's not the Bomberman 64 successor some people wanted it's a good return to form for Bomberman.
Numbers aren't everything and an important part of knowing what a review is saying is to actually read it. Metacritic reviews are obviously going to be based on the Launch version of the game and Steam got a bad port, doesn't mean things haven't changed for the original version or that the game is bad period just because of a bad port.
