I think that's a personal problem because for me it might as well have satire written all over it in neon lights it can't be more obvious

Some are clearly obvious jokes
However some are not even about racism it's just insulting people then waving hey it's a joke

They are at various dates cross multiple years and only one was a response

OP need more context for those who does not follow her

I hate this witch hunt with Twitter though so silly and stupid because they are old tweets too

User banned (3 days): concern trolling, arguing in bad faith
The first one mocks Trump's travel ban, especially given our history of mass shootings generally perpetrated by white gunmen who get pity pieces (ironically in newspapers like NYT) while we're enforcing travel bans on countries who haven't attacked us in recent memory. We have a terrorist problem for sure, and it's not foreign terrorists, it's domestic terrorists who're just happen to be by and large white.

The second one satirizes the feeling of women and minorities on the internet, where they feel unwelcome at every turn. If you want an example right on this forum, feel free to read Era's Women Problem (Read OP). It's saying "I wish men would feel the same thing we do, maybe they'd realize what they were doing then".

"Downright malicious" lmao. Again, if this is "malicious" to you guys you wouldn't last a day as a woman/PoC.

See, your post is effective social commentary. I wish she would make Tweets like that...instead of mean statements like "I think white people should be marginalized and discriminated against." I can obviously see how they're satire, but it also could have been handled much more deftly. Stooping to that level doesn't help any sort of discourse because at their core they are fundamentally mean statements that accomplish nothing except promote toxicity. They're not humorous, they don't intelligently convey a point, so why bother posting them?

Why not use a few more words to add some nuance to your argument and promote awareness?

Like instead of:

"I WISH WHITE PEOPLE WOULD BE ARRESTED MORE OFTEN."

How about:

"It's a sorry state in our society when black men can't move into an apartment building without having the police called on them for suspected trepassing."

Which one accomplishes more? The latter. What does the inflammatory, mean statement do? Absolutely nothing except shock people...and little else.

I mean charitably speaking, I think, if you're a white person reading those tweets for the first time, you SHOULD feel a shock of discomfort/anger. Your gut reaction SHOULD be like, wtf dude.

Then, you read the context, and realize it's satire.

But now you should also understand what it's like to be a minority when those same sentiments are expressed towards you sincerely, and be like... wow damn that really sucks, maybe I should really consider that words, even when it's "just trolling," can have a negative impact on mood, and that perhaps cumulatively having to deal with it and suck it up for your whole life, sometimes from the government of your own country, is a bigger deal than "but free speech" or "just take the high road, what's the big deal."

I care greatly about the struggles that minorities and women face every day. I know they are profound and I know that as a white woman I am privileged by not having to deal with this shit on a daily basis. I just think we can do better than promoting this kind of inflammatory, mean statement as acceptable and encouraged no matter how it manifests. Luckily, our society as a whole is much more conscious and aware because of the hard work of the progressive movement...but we certainly have a long way to go and there are many areas that we have regressed. I just don't think shocking white people with inflammatory statements really does anything, to be honest. It certainly didn't do anything for me. Is the answer to vitriol...more vitriol?

Her bad jokes are also just...mean:

When did we as a society become so mean? This applies especially to all the people who have harassed her on a daily basis. It just makes me so sad.

This thread is a big ol' YIKES from me. Those tweets aren't appropriate at all, and should be seen as extremely bigoted.

Looking at the tweets side-by-side, the schtick is pretty clear: "this is what you idiots sound like" basically. Seems pretty on point too.

man imagine if people On Here responded as vigorously about shit that actually matters and harms people in a materially effective way as much as they do this kind of 'anti-white reverse racism' bullshit

whatever did The Whites do to deserve this gentle mocking, i wonder

Truth. My eyes can't roll back in my head far enough at people taking offense to these.

spend your whole career getting shit on by white men at the level she has been and see if you're still so touchy about meanness online

These tweets are weird. They're what I expect from when Russian troll farms pose as left-wingers, except real.

These were all written at a time when Twitter posts were limited to 140 characters.

Well reasoned posts like that also only get read by a willing audience. People who call her a dog eating gook are not going to read anything she writes unless it has shock value.

And lastly, why is it a requirement to be polite to people who view you as subhuman?

I guess I just don't see stuff like this helping. The right is only going to see a liberal journalist tweeting these out and their going to use that as ammunition to feed to their base.

Uh, they also stand by her
I know, I'm calling out their hypocrisy for acknowledging that the alt-right is using Gamer-Gate-like tactics to get this journalist fired, yet they won't acknowledge the racism of their own writers. That, and they side with the Israeli government in light of all their atrocities.

They still ain't shit

I'll be honest, it took a lot of reading and lurking before I felt like I somewhat understood the nuance in this story. I feel this is particularly important because to the average person, the perceived hypocrisy over this situation is obvious. Also, for everyone wondering where certain posters were during instances of racism, I think it's possible that apparent hypocrisy is more likely to be called out than agreement on something that is universally considered abhorrent. I did not participate in threads concerning Roseanne because I felt that her words were obviously terrible. Most people seemed to agree, and she was punished for it. I don't think I would have added anything by providing my own commentary.

This scenario, however, is different. I think people posting now may be calling out the hypocrisy that wasn't apparent in previous threads about Roseanne or similar stories. In fact, I was really struggling to come to terms with it myself when I first saw the topic. Those Tweets were gross to me. I thought the very things that a lot of you describe as disingenuous. Things like "What if roles were reversed? Her apology is basically 'it's just joke,' something we have ridiculed white men for saying. " I wouldn't have been okay if a white male said these things about black people, so how could I be okay with her saying these things? Indeed, I felt like a hypocrite. I was struggling to come to terms with my own perceived hypocrisy.

Even now I would find it difficult to put into words why this situation is different from others. However, that person who still believes it to be hypocrisy still exists. A great many of them do. And I don't think that belief is malicious. Perhaps it is just ignorance. I read a lot of sarcastic remarks such as "I guess racism against white people doesn't exist" or "sexism against men doesn't exist." Even now I don't know what to say to those remarks. Anyway, that's my two cents. Stories like this only further the divide between people. And it's not like everyone who is condemning her is a bad person. I think the nuance is just lost on people. I consider myself progressive and on the left side of politics (at least as I understand it to be), and even I thought I was being hypocritical when my initial reaction to this story was "it's different for her."

The perceived hypocrisy will just be the main takeaway most people get from this, I fear.

TBH I'm not seeing people encouraging this and saying more people should do this.

All I'm seeing is, no, this is not what it's being made out to be by the alt-right.

*edit: And a whole lot of people laughing at people who are actually offended by satire.

Like "LOL can't believe you're waving a pitchfork at Swift because you think he actually wants to eat your kid"

Skipping a ton of what should have a proper retort to cut just to this part and laugh out loud. When has this society not been "mean" or murderous to the minority population?
Motherfuckers can give it all day every day while others turn a blind eye to it. But fire one shot back and it's *shock* How dare she!!!

Hey this is exactly what some of us warned would happen with the Jessica Price and James Gunn firings. Corporations continue to empower fascist silencing of dissent by refusing to call out these scumbags for what they are.

Don't want to surprise you but "giving them ammunition" literally does not matter because literally anything can be used as ammunition by the right, including things they literally made up.

First, stop assuming that the right wing needs help to act in bad faith.

Second, not everything that everybody does in their life is meant to be fodder for your political goals. Or even theirs.

"But the evidence that HBD proponents adduce shows only that different genetic populations are just that: different. That's certainly not news to geneticists, and it's rather intuitive for the rest of us. Yet on HBD blogs across the web, the data analyses of world-class geneticists are held up as evidence that races exist, and that these differences are, to varying degrees, worthy of social and legal regulation. Whereas their eugenicist predecessors might have wielded calipers to log the variances in skull circumference between individuals, adherents to human biodiversity justify their racism on the similarly shaky ground of genome variance.

These writers are, for the most part, long on "evidence" and short on policy: They seem to simply accumulate colorful charts and tables of raw genomic data as if a preponderance of graphics and spreadsheets proves the existence of races."

to be more direct about it, that's what she was satirizing with her "correlation between whiteness and bad smell" bad chart

1) In the sea of shit that's the internet, it's difficult to be heard unless you're provocative. Most of her posts have barely a hundred retweets at most, she's no dril.

2) It's her free time and she can choose to use it how she intends to. I say much worse things in other places. I recognize that she's venting her frustrations, and this is not what she does primarily to "fight the system".

Ya'll getting swept into doing what the right-wing wants you to do, thinking she's a racist. Shit maybe America deserves its russian puppetmaster if you can't think for five seconds.

The alt-right actually kind of want people to publicly defend her so they can sit back and claim the left is hypocritical about these things.

I mean, the don't really care if she is fired or not. Yeah her tweets are stupid. Why do people keep falling for their tactics.
