The SNES for me. The foundation by which all modern controllers are built.

The now classic four face buttons, shoulder buttons and nice shape, along with a great D-Pad.

Add a couple of analogue sticks and a couple more shoulder buttons and you have the modern day controller. One of the best things Sony did with the first PlayStation was basically copying the design and then adding to that base.

I would have loved for Nintendo to have done the same with the Nintendo 64. I do think the N64 controller worked perfectly well for games designed around it but not always as well with those that weren't. The design also wasn't well suited to future controller developments and gaming requirements.

Imagine the N64 controller had been this instead....

Gamecube easily. Its the most comfortable and its just a really weird controller in general. I just wish it had an extra shoulder button

Switch Pro would be perfect without the D-Pad issues. I need to open mine up and do the mod.

I liked the Wavebird Gamecube Controller too.

I remember the SNES controller giving me hand cramps after like 2 hours so i'm going to disagree. If the switch pro controller had better face buttons, d-pad, and analog triggers it would be the best one they've made. The gamecube controller is pretty good, and my only issue I had with the Wii U pro controller was that it was too light weight. I also maintain that the N64 controller was a bad idea.

GameCube. It's ugly. It really is. It looks like a shitty fisher price toy. But god damn is that a cozy and satisfying controller.

GC >Switch Pro > SNES

Gamecube. It was pure comfort and the parts were of great quality. The analog stick was incredibly accurate and responsive.

The GameCube had the awful Z button, and the face buttons didn't work as well as the classic 4 button design unless the games were specifically designed around them. The B button for example was a far distance from the X button.

It was amazingly comfortable though.

Gamecube. Best analog sticks, great grip, and some really good button placement. D-pad isn't even bad, it's literally just a GBA one slapped onto it. It's perfectly fine.

Easily Switch Pro for me. Probably my favorite ever. Dpad sucks, yes, but I'm okay with using the stick these days for 2D games (don't play fighters tho).

Other than lacking a second Z button, the Gamecube controller. Super comfy with a control scheme built around the A button.

The Wii U pro controller, it had a better dpad than the Switch Pro (even if I think it's fine)

If Nintendo could get their heads out of their ass and fix that Dpad then the Switch Pro is easily the best. Meanwhile that title then belongs to the WiiU Pro controller.

It -used- to be the Gamecube controller. So comfortable and I love the button layouts, but the Switch Pro controller has eclipsed it. I love how hefty it feels.

Super Famicom. No contest. Best D-Pad (though I slightly prefer the NES's), best front buttons ever in terms of size and feel. Why they didn't just keep making D-pads and front buttons like those is beyond me. No other console has had anything better ever since.

and a Select button, and two clickable sticks, and a Dpad not made for newborn baby hands.

The GC controller was made for Smash and nothing else. It couldnt even properly translate some ports from PS2, let alone stand the test of time for modern games from 2018. Meanwhile the PS4 is sporting a souped up version of their own Dualshock controller from 1998.

the Wii U Pro is really nice too, it's just missing gyro controls

that's still my PC controller though, it's basically just a better x360 controller

US SNES controller wins because of the concave X and Y.

Lack of colours is unfortunate but comfort > aesthetics

I think maybe the snes controller. It was way out ahead of everyone else at the time, and they still feel.... perfect to this day.

Gamecube controller ALL THE WAY.

They should have made a wireless gamecube controller the standard nintendo controller after gamecube.
