By the way, you all know it but those of you talking about hiking, cycling and all that stuff. Not a good idea. Certainly not during the day. If you are on holidays, try to do that stuff as early or late as you can and join the tradition of siesta with your A.C. on.

The joke now being that that seems comparatively cool for a UK summer.

I think, outside of the odd super hot day, the worst thing about this summer has just been the persistence. We always have heat waves and it's definitely been hotter but I don't think it's ever been so constant for so long.

These are just the main cities in Spain right now. Highest temperatures are usually recorded in smaller ones.

Yup, that's 84 high temp warnings.

Meanwhile we're fine here in Marbella, 28°C. We always have mild temperatures here.

When you are really happy to reach temps about 30 C° after days of 35-38 C° you really know its a hot summer.

Stay cool Iberia!

It's okay, you can drown your sorrows in one of these there:

francesinha.jpg

(there are also vegeterarian ones, though no idea how good those are and they're not as available as the regular ones)

This looks like a cover for a heart attack simulator kind of game. What is this exactly? A french national meal? Toast, ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, cheese? I would!

Francesinha (meaning Little Frenchie or simply Frenchie in Portuguese) is a Portuguese sandwich originally from Porto, made with bread, wet-cured ham, linguiça, fresh sausage like chipolata, steak or roast meat and covered with melted cheese and a hot thick tomato and beer sauce served with french fries.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francesinha

Definitely recommend trying one while in the country (especially so while in Porto). Unless you're vegetarian (and even then, there are some vegetarian ones these days) it's definitely worth it. Though be ready to unbuckle your belt afterwards :P

Ah i see, thank you.

So, in the six hours from 13h (or 1pm) to 19h (or 7pm) I'm gonna have to deal with 38ºC + ~40% humidity. Fun times.

Edit:

Also, 26ºC at 2am. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun. Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmeeees.

Weather is strange everywhere. It is Winter here (south of Brazil) and I live on a region with temperate climate like the south of Europe. It should be around 0 to 10 oC mostly of the days (going subzero at night, but we do not have snow). However we got weeks of 20-28 oC days. Climate change is a myth yeah.

Yup, weather's going crazy. Australia's had its warmest and driest July in recent history. It should be cold and wet (and frankly, miserable), but nope.

I live in Spain and I took this picture last summer:

30boa46.jpg

So, this week it will get even worse. Mind you, I've seen this urban thermometer go as high as 50 and 51 degrees Celsius years ago (I'm pretty sure I have another pic somewhere), and there may be some sort of malfunction or circumstance that makes this one go that high, but still, I can believe it.

EDIT: More proof here (48 degrees, same city in 2012) and here (47 degrees last year). Also, they've just mentioned on TV that somewhere in Portugal will reach 50 degrees today.

Insanity, comparable to friggin' Death Valley! 47C when I went, never drained a gallon of Gatorade that fast before in my life.

It's in the sun, official temperatures are measured in the shade.

Lisbon
Here in Lisbon our AC in the studio is at MAX.
We have a huge window on one of the sides and the sun hits it all afternoon. We have a special blind that is suppose to keep the inside cool but you can still FEEL THE HEAT outside as you approach the window.
The computers are going to melt :p

Here in Galicia it's not a frying pan like Extremadura (except those poor souls in Ourense), but the humidity plus >30ºC is truly awful.

It finally rained today in Bavaria.
Shit was unbearable, and we only had like 35C for a week. I thought I would die.

They've now apparently run out of colors to display these insane temperatures on the weather maps lol

At the center of my town, in which granite rules (literally) temps reached a nice toasty 46ºC.

Like I mentioned in this thread already: granite, somehow, makes it much, much worse on the outside.

A man died today in Murcia, Spain around 6:30pm (SP) while doing some repair works on the highway due to the heat. (Specially) Those on holidays in Spain and not used to the heat, be very careful and stay hydrated.

I wish people would just keep their fridges open and cool the earth together.
