Highlights:
- Riot says they are now entering "Phase 2" of the company, where they will be releasing a handful of big titles per decade (in addition to supporting League of Legends, of course).
- Riot now has over 2500 employees to help achieve this goal.
- They have many new games in development right now concurrently, with some having started ideation five years ago when they started expanding their R&D division.
- It sounds like they intend to have at least two new titles out within the next five years, though given their behavior lately, I imagine we're not too far from the first announcement.
- Their games will be focused on very particular audiences. They consider League of Legends to be a game that's very well targeted at a niche instead of trying to appeal to everyone, and their future titles will follow that mold. To note, this doesn't mean their games won't be accessible, but don't expect something like a GTA-esque game where there's 15 different game modes.
- Riot is very focused on longevity and building/evolving their games around the wants and needs of their community. In case this isn't clear, they're nigh assuredly making multiplayer service games.
- Riot says that if you can think of a game where their fans said "We would like to see Riot make a game like that.", that they have at least actively considered it and looked into it, and may very well be making it.
- Riot is open to both new IPs and using the League of Legends IP for new things. What they're focused on is first having a great game concept, and then applying an IP that serves the game concept, instead of just ordering a game to be made with a specific IP.
- Riot is open to any platform for their games as long as it makes sense and fits the audience for a given title. This includes PC, mobile, and consoles.
- The MMO they tweeted about was semi-serious. The literal statement was mostly intended as a joke, and was meant to get people thinking about "What's next from Riot?", though they were surprised by how excited and passionate people were about the idea. However, they clarified that if they were working on an "MMO", it would be notably different from how MMOs are thought of today, at least in the sense that it wouldn't be a game similar to World of Warcraft.
- Ultimately Riot hopes to be known as a company that's about games built around fans instead of as the League of Legends company.
