Interestingly I was talking about Artifact with some colleagues today at lunch (after not thinking about it for months).

Maybe we should discuss some other games too!

Only Valve could get away with a premium CCG
For someone why played Magic as a teenager this is an amusing perspective :P
(I assume it will work a bit like that and come with a starter set of cards)

Interesting. So its like MTGO where you have to pay for cards and also an entry fee for your account.

GOTY confirmed.

Oh wait, it's probably not eligible since Valve don't make video games anymore.

Have they talked at all about card economy? B/S/T?

There's another ccg that does that right?

Seems like a good model when it's attached to a healthy game

It plays nothing like Dota.

This has the most appeal to Magic the Gathering players.
Everything they sell in the Secret Shop at TI is "nothing like Dota"

That doesn't mean Dota people don't care about it. They even announced this game at TI last year. I'm aware of how Artifact plays, I have watched all the videos.

Nice. Release date out of nowhere.

I am so excited to see more of this game.

Definitely my most anticipated game of the year.

Buying and selling cards on the steam market place is a game changer.

Hopefully you don't have to buy in a second time if you want to play on mobile.
That's generally not how Valve works (making you pay per platform that is).
...though now that I think about it I wonder how much Apple will mess up their plans if they want a unified marketplace.

That's... something I haven't even thought about. Paid mobile games in today's age seems weird enough, how will they deal with people that started on PC? Will it be free on mobile, but with less starting cards, but with a way to link your accounts?

Being able to buy/sell cards on the Steam marketplace is the real killer move here, they're gonna make millions off of that alone

Legitimately excited to try this game. I've been playing CCGs for over 20 years, and really like the demos of what Valve has presented in theory. Hopefully the PAX demo shows enough of it!

Since every card is available to buy/trade/sell on the community market, at the very least they'll be making bank on people chasing the meta.

Wow, that's gonna be a huge cash cow. Imagine if WOTC earned a few cents on every sale or trade of a Magic card. I never really thought about how brilliantly this will click into their marketplace.
