Im so surprised I'm enjoying this more than I did Overwatch, no Idea why either. I downloaded Paladins a couple days ago when I saw this thread and have been playing only 1-2 matches a night but I'm enjoying it a lot. Also can someone tell me if this is a thing, so I'm usually at the top of my team on Switch in Paladins, whereas usually in similar games on Xbox or Playstation i'd get my ass handed me 99% of the time. Is the Switch playbase just not that great at FPS ? I know thats a vague and general statement to make but I was more just curious if anyone else felt the same.

If you're only playing a couple games a night for a few days, you're likely playing against bots still.

Nice, it's a decent game so I suggest fans of the genre to give it a whirl! Not really my kind of game though, so I don't play it regularly but I did give it a shot on PC. But neither Paladins or Overwatch (which has been mentioned a lot) didn't hold my interest (Lawbreakers did). It's not an Overwatch copy though, atleast not more than Overwatch is a copy of games before it (TF2, Global Agenda etc). And it has plenty of stuff differentiating it from Overwatch, even though the art style is clearly very similar.

hahahaha I KNEW it was too good to be true. This is def 100% whats going on, especially cause I'm also terrible at using the Switch controllers compared to Xbox. Any chance there is an option to play against just for practice or in my instance for forever? That'd be awesome especially if that meant I didn't need an internet connection.

Edit: Wait but I got booted back to the main screen because one or two people didn't join multiple times. Could that still be me playing with bots?

I think your teammates are other players even though opponents are bots, could be wrong on this. And I'm certain you can choose to play against bots at any time.

You can continue playing with bots if you like. You get normal match rewards and everything. Just select training when you try to find a game, then pick Siege Training, Onslaught Training, or Team Deathmatch training depending on what you want to play. You'll still need an internet connection though.

When you fight against bots, you can still have other human players on your own team. For some silly reason, the game doesn't just replace them with bots if they don't ready up, even though it will do that very thing if it can't find enough players to begin with. Nope, instead it just cancels the match for everyone.

It's a fine port, and I already played a good amount of time, but I'm kind of glad I didn't spend money on it now. Not really interested in any of the skins, and since charas can be unlocked by playing I'll just do that.

Kind of a relaxing game since the hitboxes are ginormous and aiming is basically just pointing in a general direction and firing.
Game lives ans dies with your team mates though.

That statement just proves that you have no idea how the game works and would need to actually learn the systems to have a valid criticism. At higher level play every single member and their powers and the mods you buy as the game progresses matters in the extreme. Few games are as punishing as Paladins for being played incorrectly.

Nah, I played enough to know I do not wish to play any more! I didn't lose a single match in the time I spent with it, so clearly I've managed to get some handle on how the game works... Unless if there's a super-secret hardcore meta game hidden behind the mediocre shooty-bangs that I don't know about. :P

What does the daily challenge "get 25000 battle pass XP" mean? I played a few matches, got 60k XP and the bar is still empty??

How can I see how much XP bonus I have right now on the Switch?

And why does the challenge menu have a L and R button at the top where daily challenges are if there is nothing else as daily challenges?

I just can repeat myself, the whole game structure is so god damn confusing and bad, Jesus Christ.

You most likely only played bots (your first several matches are bot matches to let you get a hang of the controls and it's extremely uncommon for the human team to lose those. You'd need to have a stroke during gameplay to fail) or other people on their very first matches. Yes, there is a very deep meta to the game. Your replies are honestly a bit embarrassing.

Dude, I just came here to say that I don't care at all for the core gameplay or the visual design. Is that not reason enough to stop playing it? :P How is that embarrassing? It was free, and oh no, turns out it isn't my bag. Who cares? Nothing lost, nothing gained.
I'm super happy for you if you enjoy it, but if the basic act of just playing the game within the first hour or two isn't grabbing me, why force myself? I'd rather spend my time playing games I actually enjoy thanks.

I think that's fine and opinions are opinions. As you say, it's a free game so nothing lost. But you really didn't expect some backlash from coming in to the OT of a game and saying...

Gave it a go- man, I feel so bad for people who actually paid money for this! What a turd of a game. Everything looks and feels so rough.

...come on, man. Of course you're gonna aggravate people. What a turd of a post.

I didn't expect any backlash no, because ultimately it's some randomer's highly condensed take on a video game, and that sort of thing doesn't really warrant getting aggravated over. But clearly I was wrong!

No one cares if you play the game or not and I certainly don't have any desire to see you keep trying it. The issue was your insistence that the core mechanics were non-existent and the game lacked a meta beyond pulling a trigger. An opinion that was both incorrect and born from ignorance. It became embarrassing when you started touting your "wins" in defense of your opinion not even knowing you were in bot matches that a half asleep chimpanzee could win or at best other level 5 players who were biting doorknobs still learning to play as well. Paladins doesn't throw players to the wolves instantly like a lot of other games do. It tries to keep you with others learning as long as possible. (Because there's a lot of systems to understand)

I commend you for giving the game a try. Let's not spread misinformation though.

Well sure, why should anybody really care who plays and who doesn't? But that's why we're here, isn't it? Nobody told me there was a recommended threshold of hours I needed to hit before I could comment on this thread!

I'm not insisting at all, in fact I'd argue that the only insistence here thus far has been the replies insisting that my opinions are wrong... But they're just that. I don't claim anything I've said as fact... I didn't think I'd need to point that out!

And I never meant to 'tout' anything; your earlier reply suggested that I had no idea how the game works, and then my reply about not losing any matches yet (just to be clear, I was aware that these were CPU matches before I started playing) was a bit of a sarcastic oversimplification. If that read as bragging then by all means I apologise, that definitely wasn't what I intended... Why would I big up my ability to play a game that I don't even like? :P I'm always up for giving games a fair shot, but when I'm not even having fun with the basics or the general feel of it, I don't think there's much merit in forcing myself to continue. I'm not going to waste time chasing some vague promise of more fun when things get harder... And besides, difficulty does not necessarily equal enjoyment, especially when the basics don't click with me (doubly so when the game is free)!

I quite strongly disagree that anything I've said thus far is 'misinformation', I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. Just because I have a less-than-positive view on something, regardless of the time I've spent playing, does not mean I'm misinforming anybody. I won't pretend that my thoughts are anything even approaching reliable critique, this is just me. People are free to take it or leave it!

Anyway, I've gone on a bit too long now I think. I've said what I came here to say! Enjoy the game (or don't, whichever)!

I am really enjoying this game on the switch. Tried it a few times in the past and it just didnt click, but now I am really into it.

Quick question though, is there a way to tell if you are up against bots? Sometimes I steamroll with my team, but the other players are just running and dying, so I assume they are bots. I dont mind it, because I feel like the game is really populated, but I just want to know what I am up against haha

You decided to make a post about not liking something while insulting those who do and backed it up with reasons that proved you had no idea what you were talking about in the first place.

You created a post that made you look foolish. Just let it go. Creating long winded replies trying to dance around the fact that you goofed is a waste of time you could spend playing something you like.

Just think before your next post reads like:

"Dark Souls is crap! I feel sorry for people who paid to play that! Everyone says it's so hard but I played the first five minutes and it was easy! :p All you do is hit the attack button over and over!"

Sounds dumb eh?

Full bot matches end around level 5 where it's a full human team against bots.

Keep in mind though, if anyone drops out over the course of the match (including you) a bot will take his place. So if someone is doing well then starts humping a wall and spamming emotes all of a sudden their connection my have dropped. The bots aren't very smart. lol
Runs superb on the Switch - excellent compromises made
I agree. It's by far the best port Switch has seen with the 60fps and full parity. The art style helps though. Being more simple helps the resolution drops vs something like Wolfenstein that turns into soup graphically when the detail goes away.

Pro controller feels good too. I play on Xbox One X and Switch so I've seen the highest and lowest the game game get graphically.

I wonder if they can get Realm Royale to work on Switch at that quality level as well.

Oh nice. I believe I am past level 5. Not sure what level my account is yet, but I cant play ranked yet. I am sure I have nearly 30-40 matches already, and at least a 50% win ratio. I bet there were probably 2 disconnects on some of the teams I was up against which is what made it so easy. That or there are others that are just as new as me haha

After telling my two of my friends to download it, we've been an unstoppable force.

Makoa - Grohk - Bombking + 2 PUB players and we never lose.

I'm actually enjoying it more than Overwatch, (minus the times when the enemy team has Viktor, Tyra and Vivian).

Am I the only one who can't play this?

I've tried playing for around ten times every other day since it went f2p now and everytime after the match loading screen this happens:

DjlSPw_UUAAffmG.jpg:large

Pressing A doesn't do anything and I have to close the game. And if I start it directly or just a few minutes after I get the same screen now saying "The servers are currently under maintanance".

A couple of days ago I then got a error screen with an "under construction" theme in the background. I don't have a screenshot of it. It looked like the game tried to reconnect to the left game, but never did.

I have played a few matches at my girlfriends place and at work. But I don't see what the problem could be on my end.
I don't have any wifi issues otherwise and my NAT type on Switch is open.

Anyone?

Man it sucks when you get bad team mates who don't seem interested in pursuing the goal or sticking together in TDM.

Just started playing this having never played a game like this before. Is it me or do people completely suck at this game?
I seem to be railroading every team deathmatch I'm playing.

I'm using a PS4 controller to play (Essential for any Switch FPS game I've played) so maybe there's that.

I'm lvl 3 and the matches I was able to play weren't against bots. At least not if the bots aren't idleing mid match and have names that sound like irl bad online names.
Word is it's bots till level 5 to act as a tutorial sort of. Most of the bot names are pretty generic. If you are actually playing against real people at level 3, then maybe the devs hav changed something

Same thing after the servers are back up and running after maintenance . Even when I try to cue up for a Training Match against bots I get the same "Player disconnected"-screen I posted earlier after a realIy long match loading screen. Three times in a row just now. Since no one on the official forum or here is having the same issue I'm giving up. Strange, played hundreds of hours online MP on Switch without any issues.

No, the available free champions rotate. Anything you unlock with gold is unlocked forever. So if she was in rotation, if you spent gold on her, she stays available once the rotation changes.

Played a number more games and got into the meat of the game playing against real players which made things a bit more interesting. What settings have you guys got the auto-aim at? It seems really strong at default which is 100/100 I think and I'd find myself wanting to manually adjust the aim and actively having the autoaim fight against me lol.

She is not selectable for me in the champions menu before a match and I do not see her at all in the champions menu. Her picture isn't there. She doesn't exist in my game at all.

Edit: according to a dev on twitter there's an issue with Furia's audio? So they removed her from the game while they fix it. That sounds, weird?

Ah, so it is: https://www.reddit.com/r/Paladins/comments/93zp6f/where_is_furia/

Hopefully she will be back soon, unfortunate timing on your part. Lian is gone too.

I bought Furia with coins and I can't use her in any game. She has a red line through her. Any idea why? :/

Edit: just saw the above post with her removed temporarily. Wow. Why was I able to buy her then?

She's still available to buy, but you can't use her until HiRez sorts out the massive clusterfuck that was yesterdays patch. They didn't test it at all. Lian has been disabled too.
