People are so sure that Spidey will outsell GoW huh? have no doubt that TLOU2 will outsell it tho. After all TLOU1 sold like 18m units.

TLOU2 will come so close to PS5 launch and it will be the only one to get an early remaster for it to boost the sales big time.

Spider Man definitely has a chance with its appeal to younger as well older audience too. TLOU 2 would be quite violent..so my guess is its going to sell at-least lesser than Spider Man.

We don't even know if Spider-Man is a good game, let alone a masterpiece like the other choices. Let's hold off?

Would be a massive win for Sony if SM did... unless the thing bombs crtically (don't see it happening) it should sell very well

Uncharted did half of TLOU in spite of being less violent and more vibrant.

Spider-Man will sell several million less than TLOU 2.

People sleeping hard on Spider-Man. Can't wait for it to shock everyone in about a month.

Have we gotten any GOW figures since they announced it passed 5 million?

Games are heavily front-loaded and almost no exclusive sells 10+ million nowadays on a single console. I don't even know if Uncharted 4 has done that (sold 8.7 million in 2016, but no announcement of it ever passing 10 million).

We haven't gotten numbers, we rarely do, but it did go up 3 spots to #4 in the UK last week. There's been no indication of it having poor legs.

I will be surprised if either of those games outsell GOW.

Not because they'll be worse than GOW, but because GOW, being this masterful reboot of a huge franchise, has and advantage over those two titles in terms of making a big impression. I could be wrong, however.

I am surprised to learn Spider-man not only has more sales than all the other superheroes, but also more than Batman by a large margin.
Today I learned.

More kids will be getting Spider-Man than God of War for Christmas, and adults love it to. It has a great shot if it's a well reviewed game.

Maybe I am oversimplifying things too much but Spiderman seems like it will be the best selling out of those three based on its very broad appeal.

I think a better question is which will be the better game as they are all very different.

Spiderman? No. It will sell well in September, but I doubt it will have serious daddy long legs. I'm expecting a short campaign, and the swinging mechanic already seems like it's just a few cool backflip animations that we've know seen 100 times. The latest gameplay footage I just saw didn't make the combat look like anything special. It's Arkham.

Last of Us? I think we will see some major downgrades. Will that affect sales? Probably not to much. But it's also just the second entry and the first game figures were propped up by double dippers like me starving for a PS4 game, hell I got mine super cheap trading in my PS3 copy.

GOW is a masterpiece. I literally just beat it tonight after buying it on sale during Father's Day. If they make it a $40 game during the holiday it will do huge #s for a 6month old game.

Interesting! I'm not sure how you'd measure all around character popularity so I'm not really certain what kind of data there is to suggest Spider-Man is a more popular character than something like Batman. But for the sake of an argument, didn't Dark Knight Rises gross more than Spider-Man Homecoming? Also a quick googling indicates that Tec Comics is outselling Amazing Spider-Man currently, so IDK! What's your case?

Did you miss that graph posted a page back? Probably the best overall metric to help determine that kind of thing.

I think some people may be seriously underestimating the commercial titan that is Spider-Man. I wouldn't be surprised if Spider-Man becomes Sony's fastest selling exclusive of all time. I'd love to see where the merchandise numbers are at these days but at one point Spider-Man was more profitable than The Avengers, Batman, AND Superman COMBINED.

And that's pre-MCU Spider-Man.

I absolutely believe TLOU2 will

Spider-man has a great chance as well but I think will depend on reviews being in the 85+ range. I still have some concerns about it and am not sure whether I'll get it.

The anticipation for Last of Us 2 is on par with Grand Theft Auto, Elderscrolls etc., will probably be the biggest exclusive this generation.

Let just stop and think for a moment, all these games are going to sell upwards of 10 million units. That's freakin' huge lol. We have already seen the effect of GOW in Sony's quarterly report. Spider-Man and TLOU 2 will have have the same effect if not bigger. Sony must be pretty damn happy.

Not sure I'd say it's up with there with GTA. GTAV will sell 100 million when all is said and done.

Though maybe you could make the argument that within the gaming community they're close.... though I still think you'd have to reach pretty hard.

I just don't get everyone's confidence in Spider-Man doing so well commercially.

I'm in the minority though and think GOW will be the best selling of the bunch.

I actually did miss it, not sure how tbh. Thanks for mentioning it. It really does seem like Spider-Man has huge appeal, which is why I found it interesting Homecoming didn't gross as well as Dark Knight Rises. It's not like Homecomings numbers are even close to being considered small potatoes, just an interesting observation if the licensed product sales are really THAT much higher. I wonder if it's just toys and if so what it is that makes Spidey kill in that sector? Especially considering how long the movies floundered, and it seems like it's been awhile since there was a landmark animated series or anything of the sort for Spidey.

I think they both will, yeah.

Spider-Man's metrics continue to be ridiculously strong, even looking at it from a cursory view. I'm sure jstevenson has data that can validate the high levels of interest that Spidey is garnering.

Its not. Batman is the most popular super hero in the world. I believe there was one for 2017 as well. Need to look for it.

The easy answer would be which ever one gets bundled in.

I think the Last of Us 2 has the best shot, since it'll be released at the apex of the PS4's life cycle. Right before PS5 hits and where they'll be close to 100 million PS4 consoles out in the wild.

TLOU2, perhaps. Spiderman? I can't see why. Has any Spiderman game come close to the sales of GoW?

The Last of Us 2 will obliterate both. It has a great chance to be Sony's first 20 million seller imo.

Spiderman will do gangbusters too, but I am not sure it can top God of War. Either way, both Spidey and GOW will be 10+ million sellers. I think they will be very close. Like, 14 million for GOW and 13 million for Spidey, or vice versa.

The sequels will be very interesting too. God of War 2 and Spiderman 2 have potential to be TLOU2 big.

I'd be honestly surprised if spider-man could reach the same numbers of GOW, though tbh I don't really follow or care that much about the franchise so I might be underestimating it. Insomniac are amazing though so I'm assuming the game will be great and well received by critics (>=85mc), which will certainly help besides the obvious popularity.

TLOU2 will most likely be at least as huge as GOW. I can see it being a even bigger hit though I don't think the difference will be that significant.

No exclusive has ever sold that much except for Kinect Sports IIRC because it was a pack-in game. Not any Mario game. Not Halo in its hayday. People are really being overly bullish about TLOU here.
