Kind of expected, there are almost 20 million Switches this year to sell software to and way more software to sell.

And they're still not collecting online subscription payments like the other companies, yet. So it'll just get a lot higher.

That's approx $273 million for those not conversant in Yen.

Not bad at all for a "slower" quarter in an industry that normally makes more profit in the holidays.

Guess they beat expectations. And the short term guys is sweating hard now lol.

While the HW seems to slow down a bit but the SW crazy rises is carrying Nintendo really strong.

88.4%, not 188%.

Funny thing is that Switch HW sales are slightly down (and 3DS is dead), yet they're making even more money.

Not that hard....
Besides games like odyssey and splatoon already being payd off and being just profits this year while still selling like cold beverages on the sahara, from their first party games this year there were lots of games that were .... cheaper. Like LABO and DK Tropical Freeze that probably turned profits almost instantly.

Switch is a software beast that's really helping them, the Switch fanbase is buying the fuck outta everything. Best selling Zelda, best selling 3D Mario, best selling Kirby since the original Game Boy game in '92, best selling Monolith title, Mario Kart 8DX is probably gonna sell 20+ million as a port, which is insane.

The Wii/DS era was not the be all end all, Nintendo has cultivated a very nice base of die-hard Nintendo fans that are older, have more disposable income, and devour good content like crazy.

It really is. Can someone explain how it's possible? Is it the Switch hardware+software or another factor?

It's fairly simple, they had only 5-6 million Switch owners this time last year, this year they have 19 million or so, and they have a lot more software to sell, there was no Mario Odyessy on store shelves last year for example.

It makes sense for operating profit and revenue to be up. It should be up again this time next year.

Doomed, obviously.

HW number didn't seem to suggest a particularly standout quarter, but SW is the real profit driver and they're doing very well there. Definitely aagood decision to diversify with the microconsoles as well. Glad they're beating expectations.

NTDOY is up 4% in the US market today. This doesn't bring us anywhere close to erasing the multiple 5-7% drops that happened in the past few months, but it's better and my losses are still in the 10,000s but it's better.

It's weird because this signals to me that the overall 30-40% drop that happened in the last 6 months was not entirely performance-based, or that the amount expected was astronomical.

Lastly, I'm fairly sure it will continue to gain with the release of key software titles for the remaining FY, as well as charging dollars for online pay. Still hoping to see some gain by EOY, unsure if I should take losses now to move the money to another sector.

Honestly, the Wii U was a blessing in disguise. If you look over their earnings during those bad times, you'll see that they worked really hard to reduce operating costs despite falling sales. If they hadn't done that, the losses would've been absolutely awful.

Edit: point being, they continue with those lessons even in good times.
