Why do people seem to care so much about the physical appearance of their phones?

I don't get it either, even with the "i like having things that look nice", you are always looking at the screen and people wont look at it since you are covering it up with your hand.
Also do people really think the pixel is ugly? Is just like a knockoff iphone.

This always eluded me too. Back in the day (pre iPhone) phones looked quite varied so I could see style mattering. But for the last 8 years virtually all mainstream phones are a black rectangle with varying degrees of rounded edges.
I get liking a phone's looks now a bit more or less. But wen people call one black brick disgusting and another 'absolutely gorgeous' , I roll my eyes internally lol.

1) People will always prefer things that look nice and want their things to look a certain way.

Do I care? Not a lot, no. My phone is in a standard black Otterbox Defender and hasn't seen the light of day since I first got it. It's a black and gray phone and I'm fine with it.

Your phone, just like everything else you take out with you, is a statement of your tastes and sensibilities as much as it serves a functional purpose. Also, people like good design aesthetics in general.
That said, there are people who encase their otherwise nice looking phones on god awful cases. But hey, their phone, their sensibilities.

You can't let a brand that doesn't care about you, make you feel that way.
If it's really that important to you, I guess you can buy a nice apple sticker and stick it on the back of your Android phone case if you ever switch.
LOL it's great that they're trying, but they shouldn't have let a teenager design it.
I will never understand bezelphobia. It's like they've been told by Apple that bezels are for some reason bad, so now they blindly believe it.
I don't have my phone to show to other people so I couldn't care less, really. Doesn't mean I don't care about other aspects of my life looking good.
Meh don't care. I got a wallet case that's purple on the outside and pinkish inner. Get a lot of "nice case" even though it's sarcastic cuz probably throws people off a guy with full beard be carrying around a pink wallet case lol.
I smile and say thanks and tell em it's my favourite colour because purple is my fav colour the pink just comes with the territory.

It's just a biased thread where you wanted to say you hate Apple with hyperbolic bullshit like the OS is horrible and the software is horrible.

I don't care what my phone looks like, really. It's when they try to follow style trends that actually make the thing look actively stupider and more annoying to use (see: notch, trimming bezels excessively) that gets me.
You could show me an inexpensive black brick, and a top-of-the-line iPhone, or Android, and I wouldn't be able to pick out which is which without looking at the logo. They all look the same to me. All of this comparing, and contrasting of cell phones reminds me of the business card scene in American Psycho.
Honestly - having had an iphone x for a while now - although it is pretty, that isn't so important for me. It sits in a leather case due to my worrying about it being damaged.
However, the lack of bezels isn't purely an aesthetic thing - having the content being more edge to edge feels different in the hand. It is difficult to quantify, but I guess it is similar to when phones started having laminated screens; technically a small change but I couldn't go back to non-laminated now.
