Yeah I think if we were going to get any substantial DLC it would've been announced at E3. A year seems to be the cutoff point. Zelda was nine months, Splatoon 2 a year, Xenoblade 2 less than a year etc. I think SMO 2 is an obvious direction to take.

That usually doesn't happen though. Usually each gen has one 3D Mario game. There is a chance of one more but you will most likely be left with Odyssey until next gen.

N64 - Mario 64
GameCube - Mario Sunshine
Wii - Mario Galaxy 1 and 2
Wii U - 3D World
Then the next 3D Mario comes out sooner in the next systems lifecycle, hopefully near the beginning again, that's way more beneficial for Nintendo.

I feel like people, myself included, expects and demands alot from Nintendo after several horrible years with the Wii U, and rightfully so. Either Nintendo has some serious issues with their studios that make them only pump out one or two big AAA games a year, or they are just too damn secretive and wants to keep any major realeases close to their chest..

Nintendo puts out more than 20 games per year every year, including in the Wii U era (that counted 3DS, of course). In no world they just release just two AAA a year. If for you AAA is just BOTW and Odyssey, then of course that's not happening. That without count that what Nintendo releases, even for those two, aren't really what we could call AAA.

And Nintendo have a division for games and 4 owned studios (Monolith, Retro, Nd Cube and 1-Up) but the majority of what is released is made by external studios not related to them.

It's a shame they never capitalized on it. I'm sure there are kingdoms that were supposed to be more fleshed out that got cut for various reasons.

I enjoyed Odyssey a lot but I feel like it came and went. Some new kingdoms after a few months would have been great to hold my attention a little longer.

I hope we see more 3D Mario in the like of 64/Sunshine/Odyssey in the future more than what we have gotten these few years.

It seems they want to focus on the next game over DLC, kind of a shame since I'd love a little DLC.
I'm hoping their next game isn't Odyssey 2, or even another Mario game, I want a 3D Donkey Kong from that team built on the skeleton of Odyssey, it could even have it's own (unique) New Donk City stage.

i really wanted dlc because i finished the game kind of quick, and wanted more. at this point it's obvious they're not gonna do it tho, and they're working on a sequel (end of 2019 maybe?)

They're definitely working towards Odyssey 2. I'm pretty confident of it, but if we see nothing by the next direct then I'll be 100% sure.

I'd rather have it that way anyway. Use the first game as a base then make new worlds or just new areas in the same Kingdoms.

That usually doesn't happen though. Usually each gen has one 3D Mario game. There is a chance of one more but you will most likely be left with Odyssey until next gen.

N64 - Mario 64
GameCube - Mario Sunshine
Wii - Mario Galaxy 1 and 2
Wii U - 3D World
You could have used that same logic about Galaxy 2 though, yet here we are. And technically Nintendo wanted to make a Mario 64 2 but it just didn't pan out because the 64DD was a flop. Odyssey is essentially in that same situation (as it was near launch similar to 64), except the Switch has proven to be exceedingly successful, and Nintendo claims to intend to support the Switch longer than any other of their consoles. So a sequel seems pretty damn high (esp. if Odyssey receives no paid dlc), so I definitely disagree with your notion.

but like, this is a giant gaming event for the entire year of releases at a minimum and they gave us basically a very extended youtube video of smash changes. And then 10 minutes of other stuff? That doesn't feel stilted to you? Like could they have not revealed other stuff coming this year too?

Not sure how it was cut to the chase either, if you were in the live thread here during nintendo it was not received well and the smash section became a real slog. Probably the most dull part of E3 because it was just like... can we move on already?

maybe to you but not to me or plenty of others.
I don't get this mentality. Does everything have to be revealed at E3? So what if it doesn't? You will get the memo anyway, do you want Nintendo to hype you beyond belief even with games years out just because E3?

Bingo. And that dude here said it was "fine at worst" lmao

As the one person who hates LABO enough to have a vendetta against others for daring to buy it, I'd thought you'd be better than to mock others for different opinions on things. Guess that only applies to you, huh?

As someone who shelves games once the credits roll, I would much rather they made a sequel instead, unless the DLC is something entirely different compared to the main game, with a very wide scope, something like the upcoming Torna DLC for Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

It should yeah, at least I hope they give us a direct sequel like Galaxy 2. One 3d Mario per generation is not enough. Galaxy 2 was one of the most unexpected and greatest E3 announcements ever.

I don't expect DLC for Odyssey, the game has lots of content and the logical next step is Odyssey 2 IMO. 2-3 more kingdoms can offer some hours of good gameplay, sure, but why don't wait for a new game with 10+ more new worlds and expanded gameplay?

Nah. Just like Galaxy, I would rather the team work on Odyssey 2 than just DLC for the original. Why get 2 more worlds for $15 when you could get 15 + a new story for $60. Also, I'm not a fan of Adventure games getting new DLC levels. New characters are fine, but when I buy an adventure game I want the full adventure to be in the game without DLC, on principal

I would love Super Peach Odyssey. I felt like the story was kinda building towards that.

I was surprised by the lack of many things, but that DLC wasn't one of them. I'd rather have Odyssey 2 or whatever the next game is.

That's not my point. My point is that the entire purpose of the game is you go through the kingdoms to make progress. If you're just buying extra kingdoms what's the point of collecting the moons? Yeah it's fun but there has to be more depth to that. There's already 1000 moons in the game though. They're not adding more.
it can be a completely separate campaign, maybe playing as luigi.
that is, if they ever wanted to do dlc, which it seems like they didn't.

I wouldn't be that shocked if they're actually working on both Odyessy 2 + Mario 3D World 2 and as such DLC for Odyessy really isn't doable.

A 3D World Mario could really do well on the Switch especially given the multiplayer nature of the system, and an Odyessy 2 basically has to happen because of the sky high sales.

They are obviously making Odyssey 2 with any unused assets from the first one so the absence of DLC makes sense.

Echoing the sequel predictions here. Might not necessarily be called Odyssey 2 but they got a very strong foundation to build on. If it's to Odyssey what Galaxy 2 was to Galaxy 1... we're in for a treat.

Petty to laugh at silly opinions? Laugh at me for how I hate labo doesn't bother me. Anyone saying Nintendo's e3 this year was good can handle being laughed at.

Laughed at...for what? Having a different opinion? What's the deservedness for mockery? What crime was committed that the appropriate response is to make sure they feel bad for daring having it?

Their e3 was a mess. I am legitimately tired of the way Nintendo approaches e3 with these directs and treehouse streams.

I was one of the guys that preferred this new Directs and tree house but not anymore. It's nice to have those through the year but at e3 it makes lot of fragmentation on the information.
A single conference with the news and treehouse after with more in depth content about what was showed should be the way to go.

Honestly, I'd rather see new games at E3 instead of DLC.

or if it is DLC, make it awesome looking like that octo-expansion.

I'm still holding on hope that they will add some Isle Delfino stages.
