Finally went ahead and configured last night. Ended up going with RWD in Midnight Silver. I was really keen on AWD, but hearing reports that it's not as efficient as RWD was what finally broke me. I'm not gonna weep over saving 4k, and considering the weight of the vehicle, I'm not concerned about it's performance in snow.

Was it usually about a month from configuring until getting your VIN assigned for you current owners?

Tesla service center called and said my vehicle is already ready. I moved my pickup date to this Saturday.

As always, you'll get better enough performance from RWD with a set of snow tires than AWD with all-seasons. Use that $4k you saved to get snow tires and you'll be fine.

I own a 13' Nissan Leaf and I am full EV convert after driving ICE for the past 13 years - constant breakdowns and gas prices have me convert.

Now I would like to own a Model 3, but I keep hearing a lot of horror stories regarding constant repairs and most worrying - the LONG turn-around times - which can go from 3 - 6 - 9 months. I think the Insurance in NJ keeps rising like crazy every time I try to get a quote on it.

I ask my fellow Tesla EV elites - how do you guys handle it? Has Tesla finally begun rolling out their so-called Tesla Centers??

Also on another note - Any EV nomads here? (no home access to charger, live in apartment) - how do you guys handle the Tesla (bigger battery duh!) long charging times as far as pubic charging goes.

Is the $7500 tax credit still on schedule to be eligible before December 31st of this year? If so, should we need to place our order by October at the latest?

Yes. You'll just have to take delivery before 12/31, so October should be a fine time to order provided there aren't a ton of other people with the same idea.
Why would you order in October if you want full tax credit? I mean I do see some people order and get Vin the same week, but I would guess it's still a 3-6 month wait if you want full tax credit. Why cut it so close?

My local Service Center finally got a Model 3 to test drive, so i'll be playing with it next week yay!

Early 2019 is the current projection on that. We should not expect anything like that this year. If you are hellbent on the full tax credit I would get a LR AWD or RWD this year.
Early 2019 is the delivery estimate, right? So I'm thinking Q4 2018 is when the configurator opens for the base model.

Pulled the trigger on my RWD multicoat red Model 3! I've encountered an annoying issue. The section where you're filling out your insurance information, the line where it says "Agent's number" would putting the customer service number of my insurance company be just as good there? I ask because last night when I started filling out the insurance information I came to discover that my agent had left the company and thus I had no agent assigned to me. I called their customer service number and they said it takes 4 business days to get assigned a new agent. While that's not the end of the world I would like to get the ball rolling on all of this ASAP. Any thoughts on this are appreciated!

Any rumblings if a black headliner will be an option and air suspension anytime soon?

Took four hours..I suck at this stuff. But I like the results! I have two small bumps on the top center console, the shiny plastic literally had two small bumps on them so I couldn't get rid of it. But oh well.

That looks really good. I'm considering the wrap that matches the wood on the dash.

My Jeda pad should be here this week. Pretty excited about that, but concerned that I may forget my phone since I'm so used to having it in my pocket when getting out of the car.

Would you mind telling us where you got that wrap from? I've seen plenty of them around on Amazon and other Tesla focused after market sites, but yours looks particular good. I've been thinking about doing this too.

Great job on yours!

Rich started one of the most entertaining threads on the TMC forums rebuilding a flooded Model S. Can't fault him for salvaging Teslas or for being an entertaining dude.

Some price changes:

AWD $5k
Red/White paint $2k
Other paint options $1.5k

Note that free Supercharging is now available with referral for P3D only until September 16th. If you're looking to get a P3D, I can give you my referral code.

lol, thanks for the horrible advice.
It was actually great advice but you refuse to see it. I can open the door for you, but it is you who must walk through it.

So is this thread dead now or something? Tesla is bankrupt already? I didn't think it would be so soon!

https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/road-tests/a22625274/tesla-model-3-performance-track-test/

The hype is dead, it's just another car in the end. All major automotive companies are making their 300 miles range electric vehicle, which is honestly what a lot of people including me wanted, and because Tesla 3 was the cheapest car that could do that, it was hype.

Add that to the Ontario government killing the electric incentive of $14,000 makes this car currently unaffordable to me.

I'm just waiting for my model 3 to arrive. I check this thread to see about any news and personal experiences and stuff, but I don't get mine for another 2 - 3 months.

How is the build quality for your newer M3s that many of you picked up? My father wants a cheaper, classy, maintenance free car to use as his DD instead of his Merc. He seriously is interested in the M3 but I keep hearing all this drama about it.

From what I read, for the most part these new M3s are pretty well made but ofc 1 bad car makes the news. I haven't had to chance to look/play around with one up close, but it is growing on me the more I see it.

Yeah, that's where I'm at. Though I'm also getting my insurance updated and am dealing with a bunch of stuff unrelated to this car.
In personal Tesla news, I just discovered that the banquet hall across the street from my job has a J-1772 charger and two Tesla (super?) chargers out back:

So I don't have mine yet but I know many owners who have been reporting that the build quality issues are a thing of the past. My brother's Model 3 didn't have any build quality problems for what it's worth.

I received my car in early May, and the build quality's is top notch. I've looked over the details harder than any other car I've owned, and I have nothing to complain about.

That's just a Tesla Wall Connector. Depending on the installation it could support more than double the charge amperage of the J1772 next to it, but most likely it's wired similarly. You can charge on either though!

Okay, I didn't think it was a supercharger but my brother said they had superchargers which is why I was confused. This is probably preferrerable though since I feel like I would over use a supercharger if there was one that close to me (for context, this is about 10-15 minutes from my house)

There are no EVs in development with a realistic 300 mile range except for the Taycan, which is already having battery sourcing issues. Tesla is 3-5 years ahead of the competition.

I might add to this that the vaunted (and nearly nonexistent at 13k total production planned for 2018) Jaguar I-Pace has a much worse range than quoted. Jag claims 240 miles but the few people who have actually driven one as Jag is having production delays report that it has under 200 miles when driven at highway speeds.

And yeah, the Taycan has been delayed into 2019 and it's not clear when it will be available. Porsche is having trouble sourcing the batteries they need for such a high-performance vehicle even though the specs on the Taycan aren't exactly impressive if you're aware of the now 6-years old Model S.

Despite the propaganda, there is nobody out there making a 300 miles range EV besides Tesla and the first one won't be available until 2019 and none of the incumbent automakers are planning more than around 20k annual production. By the time first Taycans hit the road, it's extremely likely that Tesla will have already sold their 200,000th Model 3 on their way to an annual production rate of 400,000 vehicles.

Lets not forget that neither the I-Pace or the Taycan will be remotely affordable for the masses.

To be fair that's true for any EV. Range is heavily dependent on speed, elevation etc.

As long as they use the same EPA test it should be apples to apples.

I've found my Bolt's 238 mile EPA range to feel quite accurate. Yeah, it varies, mostly with temperature, but the EPA test seems reasonable. We'll just have to wait & see how I-Pace does.

Unknown Soldier was referring to this real world range test where the I-Pace prototype achieved 65% of its advertised range.

http://autobest.org/first-european-independent-ev-real-range-test-press-release/

Hopefully it's a software issue, otherwise Jag has some problems to sort out.

There was this one where they did hit the advertised range... But had to turn literally everything off, including air conditioning and the radar cruise control.

We have attained the rated range. But only by crawling along, denied heating, A/C, stereo, HUD, lane-assist, wipers, headlights. Real-driving range is below 200 miles, I reckon.

Tesla's rated ranges are generally accurate too, assuming you are not driving in 30 degrees F weather and blasting the heater. Even running the A/C on a 90 degrees F day is usually not too bad for the range in my experience.

So apparently they've opened up referral codes and shit to people who own a Model 3, and you can use them on performance model 3's, model x, or model s, for free supercharging.

I'm gonna post mine here (hopefully not against rules!) if anyone is thinking of ordering a Performance 3, at least this way you get free supercharging for the life of the car!
