What does going gold exactly mean these days? That discs are ready to be printed?

I've got a Spidey PS4 Pro pre-ordered from Target. Can't wait. Only issue is that Destiny Forsaken comes out before this game and if its any good, I won't be touching Spider for a few months after, which might not be bad considering how often most games are patched now.
In the context of an announcement like this - going gold is basically a confirmation that the game will not get delayed. It's "ready" for consumer, even if not "done."
First thing they surely have to do now is a massive royal rumble pillow fight while in their Spider-Man pyjamas. To celebrate.
There's a lot to be thankful for.
It's pretty much in line with other games. Horizon Zero Dawn went gold on January 31st and released on February February 28th. GoW went gold on March 22nd and released on April 20th. And Uncharted 4 actually went gold on March 18th and was released May 10th.
It doesn't suck cause the alternative would've must likely been more Activition tier games or no game at all.
And that's fine. You can thank Sony for their support and Marvel for the opportunity. It's all down to Marvel realistically. Sony in this case is legit just a name on a check. None of this happens without Marvel.
This just reinforces my point. It's all down to Marvel.

Insomniac and Sony are the ones who have done the work.

Anyway, congrats Insomniac. Going Gold feels werid to me these days cause I know they're still in the studio working on day one patch day.

I'm not angry that they thanked Sony, I'm just upset Sony gets the first thanks. Sony deserves recognition for taking on a licensed property and treating it as their own, but Marvel deserves the most thanks for making the whole thing happen.
That's not at all what the post from the Insomniac dev said. There's literally no good reason to be upset that Playstation was thanked first in the sentence.
