Little known fact: I tracked down every single person who voted against Landstalker, and ate them.

Same, with Spelunky.

where's the metroidvania hate coming from?
i'd love a metroidvania from them

The market is slightly oversaturated with incredibly high-quality Metroidvanias, including the relatively recent and probably GOAT Hollow Knight. While that's actually an awesome thing, it's also reasonable for people to wish for games in less represented genres.

I just want King of Cards. Where is it? Wasn't it supposed to be H1 2018?

Yeah this

I have the physical version of the base game on Wii U and the last DLC update was such a shitshow when it came to releasing

They didn't seem to know when the Wii U version would come out, only revealing an exact date a week or so before it released, which was weeks after the other versions came out

I understand the Wii U updates were clearly not a priority for them, but still, it would have been nice to have been kept in the loop

I have no idea when King of Cards will come out

The release date is still TBC 2018 on the website

I hope they are working on a new game alongside KoC because if not it might be best to hold off on being excited for the next 3 years or so.

I hope they saw what happened to Cellar Door with Rogue Legacy and their follow up Full Metal Furies. They should make something similar enough that they don't lose most of the fan base because of lack of interest.

I wouldn't be that generous in saying we got two "completely new" games for free given the asset re-use. But I was seriously impressed how the new characters controlled completely differently adding a whole different dynamic to the game.

I'm certainly looking forward to what's coming next, but I hope it's a platformer of some kind, because I like platformers and that's the reason I liked Shovel Knight.

Yacht Club are a cautionary tale about Kickstarter stretch goals and tying up your options for years.

Shovel Knight was one of my favourite games of the year when it came out, so it has been a shame to see the developer so bogged down by the DLC/extra campaigns.

I have no idea or preference of what they'll do next, I just hope it manages to feel fresh in the wake of too-many Shovel Knight releases.

Pretty odd thing to say, "cautionary tale" / "bogged down" - when the entire thing is one incredible success story. There is no indication from anyone working there and certainly no evidence in the quality and effort put into the DLC that they are tired or annoyed at still working on Shovel Knight and it continues to sell incredibly well in large part due to the new campaigns.

Maybe you want to see them working on something else but as a fellow dev it seems a little disrespectful to project your own apathy for continued shovel knight dlc onto them

yeah, they need to do Shovel Knight RPG. Not a Metroidvania, as we got a lot of these since Shovel Knight's release, and not Shovel Knight 2, as they've been doing DLC for Shovel Knight for ever and they need to do something different.

Shovel Knight RPG, yo. Yacht Club Games needs to do the Paper Mario game that Nintendo has been refusing to make for over a decade now.

Shovel Knight was an absolute joy to play. And some of the best DLC in gaming. I would have gladly paid for the Spectre Knight campaign, just so fun to involve yourself in.

Yeah I think this would be the best thing for them

I'm in for their next game for sure. I hope this time though they don't spend four-plus years making DLC for it. :P I can't believe SK came out four years ago. The OG SK experience was by far the best for me, I think I'd rather they had been working on something else all this time.

Shovel Knight 64 needs to happen.
Ugh no

Not very excited considering I'm not a huge fan of Shovel Knight (I think it's pretty slow paced / doesn't feel very fluid) and wanted a Kart racing game from them.

Really excited for what comes next. Shovel Knight is a real fucking gem of a game and I adore their take on Double Dragon so I'm kinda hoping that they go back to that genre. A brilliant dev team that deserves every success.

Because the aim is for every one of their employees to own their own yacht

It's the opposite of this. They named it that way because it's the opposite of what their studio represents. It was intended to be sarcastic / an inside joke.

Shovel Knight has sold over two million copies and the free DLC campaigns are a part of the reason why. These extras have also allowed the team to sell the majority of SK copies at full price.

You played Specter of Torment? Certainly feels fluid and fast to me.

I have not!

In Shovel Knight there's just a couple of things that I dislike

a) You become almost completely immobile when attacking.
b) You have to press down on the D-PAD to attack. I'd much rather this attack was button mapped so that I could focus on left/right direction!

I had the same issues with Shovel Knight. Watch this :)

In my opinion it's way better than the original game and it's got a similar amount of content.

That does look good! But is it not quite easy? It looks easy. I'll give it a go anyway.

The guy in that video makes it look easy, but he is using some broken abilities to gimp the challenge. I just selected that one to show you how you can move around the screen fluidly. I wouldn't say it's a hard game, it provides some challenge, but it's just really good fun controlling Specter Knight compared to Shovel Knight.

Spectre of Torment is far more fluid. I had the same qualms ad you about the rigid controls in shovel knight. Spectre was a joy to play. It felt far less like classic mega man and much more like classic ninja gaiden
