Current data is hard to parse. When you pair that with the number of countries I've got replies from, I'm not 100% sure which way to take it just yet.
I did two of the previous SS years, the first one was great (I'll always remember stalking Jill Sandwich learning his interests). Second one was a bit poor with the gift never arriving (thanks for that mister_bubbles), and then being asked to go International at the last moment and having to ship to the UAE (shipping costs were insane). However, I'm back for more. Hopefully there's enough people so I can go domestic.

Edit: I realized how stupid that sounded. Perhaps remove non international and make the choice between continental and international.

I enjoyed sending out gifts and receiving them last year. I'll probably be down for doing international again. Though, much harder to detective people for gift ideas as the board is new.
Ah crap. Don't think I can participate this year as I'll be heading out for vacation on Dec 16 for a few weeks. Hmm.

Yes! Will attend for the third year i a row for sure. Full on international is best, expensive but much more exciting getting packages from south america and shipping to new zealand :D
I'm definitely in, but I personally feel that the first year should be limited to members who are verified to either have taken part last year or were at least signed up on GAF.
For such a new forum that supposedly "has a bunch of trolls" signed up or whatever, I think it would be a good idea to reduce potential risk as much as possible, especially with the forum opening this close to Christmas.

I was disappointed to read this, but I understand where you're coming from. I've never participated, but am a transplant from GAF. I'm really looking forward to this. Here's to hoping I don't get barred :/
Yeah I'm in the same situation. I came from Gaf but only had an account since early this year and had been hoping to take part in Gaf's Secret Santa but then things happened before that time of year so I hope to instead take part in this Secret Santa.
The only problem with this is that I changed my name on here, so verification might be a problem.
Unless nicoga does something similar to the B/S/T thread verification.

I'm a bit conflicted. I feel like I should limit it to folks who were previously GAF users to some degree, but I also feel like I should kick this year off with a full on trust for those involved. If the migration to RE taught us anything, it's that the core community is legit and won't let people who fuck other users over off the hook.
Honestly I say just keep it open, because no matter what, trolls or no trolls, there is always gonna be the 1 or 2 bad apples. I honestly haven't seen any trolls personally, but my time here so far have been mostly stuck to community threads.
The only thing I could suggest would be to glance through post histories when making matches, however, that just makes more work.
S.S. has always been a game of trust, and while it's always great to get things on XMAS, XMAS is the season of giving, not receiving.

You know what, I wasn't going to do it this year.....but with everything that's gone on, it just feels right.
I'm for opening it up as well. I mean, there's always a chance you'll get a bad apple, but the community can hold each other accountable as well. These things have run on much bigger forums (like Reddit) and they always end up going well.
How about an option similar to the international/non-international choice where you can choose to send/receive to/from verified members? (Edit- Just for this first year, of course.)
This would of course make it so that people would have to provide some method of verification, but having a choice satisfies both requirements while allowing the most people in.

Let's not make it more complicated than necessary. It is a huge logistical challenge already.

On the fence about this here - had 1 experience over on GAF, and it didn't turn out so good. I know it's the gift of giving, but to give an item I had so desperately wanted myself to someone else, and receive a pre-owned copy of LittleBigPlanet Karting, with a $4.99 tag still on, 2 months late? Hurt a little :( for those participating though, all the best! I'll be swaying too and from until deadline, that's for sure.

Even worse was giving a Journey artbook - something I to this day crave. Beggars can't be choosers though, thems the risks! The good vibes here are giving me reason to hope though...
