What's everyone's preferred ship type ? I love the look of fighters so I don't think I I will ever go with a hauler or bigger ship. I am willing to sacrifice inventory for a gorgeous ship (especially with 3rd person).

Will defintely build up a fleet eventually but for a starter ship it's a fighter every time.

Yeah, I ran into that as well. For all the massive improvements Next has brought, they really have their work cut out for them with all these little glitches. It's clear HG is a small team. I'd wait for a couple weeks and jump back in when its all fixed up but I can't stop playing. Shit's too good.

stop it with this as excuse, the amount of bugs, glitches and crashes made it obvious that they are not up to the task and letting the players playtest can´t be the solution. they made enough money with this game 2 years ago and aren´t willing to employ coders, QA testers and Ui specialists. this game is far too ambitious for the team and it shows on every corner technical wise...

with this amount of problems the update should have never been released, it blows up in the players face and i can´t understand how someone can excuse this shit. it is annoying that normal things in the game can break saves, the bugs are just too much and the glitches show up every few minutes

i have never seen a game which was so bugged on release, even Stalker was running better when it released...

Hot tip:

Go through the portal, visiting all the space stations at the bottom of the list until you end up back at the one you started at, picking up all the missions along the way, then head out to space, kill the pirate that spawns, turn the missions in, repeat. It's crazy how stackable these missions are.

if i was on a new save still i'd only use a Explorer but since i'm on my old save i shall cling to my Exotic for as long as possible

Snapped a pic of this earlier but completely forgot to look at the details of it. Anyone know what the model of this is called?

To follow this up, this was after killing one pirate:

Landed on a toxic planet and ran out of launch fuel for the ship. And I cant find uranium nor di-hydrogen to refuel. And theres a toxic storm every five minutes that kills me. Wth do I do? :/

Get a friend to join the game and bring you some launch fuel? (It occurs to me you could totally role play as a break down service on this game and just fly around helping stranded explorers).

Just like the Elite Dangerous Fuel Rats... Not quite as much hard work for the rescue service in NMS though :)

If you're in the Discord you could shout and see if there's anyone there on your platform can run to you some supplies.

Their coders don't really seem to be the problem as we saw with Atlas Rises they were godlike fast at addressing bugs post release with large hotfix patches being released pretty much every other day for a month after release. I think they just need a much better funded test team or a longer test pass before final release. I know it's a huge game, but some of the bugs like the missing NPC quest text are so easy to spot.

Got this game on X.

It's surprisingly enjoyable. It's kind of a weird mix between Elite Dangerous and Astroneer, methinks.

If anything I'm happy Hello Games didn't give up on this and improved their game to a point where it's actually good by most standards. Kudos.

Now I need to find some cobalt (well, enough to make ionized cobalt) to unlock an Exosuit improvement thingy :-x

I think it'll allow for some inventory upgrades or something.

Started building a base that will hopefully be in the clouds, but man base building is even more fiddly this time around.

E7CEEA30F58F33CAD72D1B1E9ADD4193E9F50C27

Thats my other base at the bottom of this mountain. Much larger diameters for base areas now, but as long as you're out of one circle you can set up a PC and start another base close by. I'm probably only halfway up to the clouds. I don't know the most efficient way to do this, but whatevs....

Theoretically, could someone build a tall enough base that it could connect two seperate planets?

The temptation to play it as a complete crook is so real:

"Ah, so your launch thruster is all outta gas, huh? That's quite the predicament... I can sell you some thruster fuel, but it'll cost you."

"I can pay."

"Call it ten Gravitino Balls, a handful of that Organic Catalyst and... I'll take that Acid too."

"For launch fuel? That's extortion!"

"Offer's an offer, friend... course you could wait for someone else to happen by this god forsaken rock: 18 quintillion planets, I'm sure someone 'll be along any minute..."

Is there any way to escape the authorities in space ? Picked up something I obviously shouldn't have and they've been on my ass for 10 minutes.

Fly to a space station (there's a bug right now which means they will just straight up follow you constantly) or a planet's surface if that's closer (but you still have to dodge the robots when you land

I played roughly 10 hours today which is double what I put in the first couple weeks when the game launched. When everything's working smoothly it's a very unique and special game. With that said...

8 FUCKING CRASHES! Luckily only 2 of them actually set me back a few minutes but regardless this is unnaceptable. I have played betas of games thay have not crashed on me like this game has. But every time it did I quickly booted it back up to grind away.

It was a decent day though. Got the cryo pump blueprint and can now basically print infinite money. Got a decent A class hauler that was extremely better than what I was using at the time. Also made quite a bit of progress across different story laths.

But seriously...FUCK these crashes.

Also, why the hell can I not use my refiner and other tools at a space station? I just wanna make condensed carbon, why do I have to leave and fly to a planet to do so, it's dumb.

I landed, but they just kept following me. Had to restart my game using the save from when I landed.

Seems the console versions are less stable, which I find weird. Probably played 10 hours since the update came out, and I haven't crashed once. One time, I was alt-tabbing and I was sure the game had managed to crash, but it didn't! The PC version was well worth the double dip.

try heading back to a planets surface and hiding in a cave or structure. If you're close enough you can dock with a station. Pirates you can outrun easily, unfortunately the space rozzers are more persistent :)

Thankfully a freighter popped up right in front of me so I was able to hide. I was 20 minutes away from the space station and I wasn't looking forward to the robots on land either.

So what's the general consensus, have they truly improved that much so that it's really worth it now? It sure looked a whole lot better in the trailers but what do you guys say?

depends on who you ask... but i think no one can deny that this release is definitely plagued by (gamebreaking) bugs, glitches and crashes...it is inconsistent with this, for some people it runs, for others it crashes every few minutes

i would advise to wait for more patches. the game itself feels like NMS: Remix, they shuffled around some elements, did a new intro and story, it is a little tighter but the core experience is still the same with much grinding involved and clicking through unintuitive menus.

I never played the original release due to the reviews and complaints... I started playing it at the start of the weekend and a loving it, no complaints (aside from the occasional crash, hopefully to be patched out), a lot of content and just a lot of fun in general.

Can anyone confirm this:

If you accept your free freighter , can you get that event again and get a new free freighter (replacing the first one?
Every freighter defense objective I've been given after that has ended with the freighter costing me units anyways. Dunno if they give you a discount or something, but as far as I know, no, you don't get another free one.

Damn, seeing some of your S-Class haulers... I need a better ship.

The one I found is decent but repairing all that damage :/ I finally landed at a space station and seen you can buy merchant ships, but they're waaaay too costly for me. Looks like I need to go ruin hunting. I should probably do the warp to another galaxy main mission as well.

Enjoying NEXT, but some of it is still a little janky and/or frustrating. I mean, who puts the option to tag a place to fly to on the same button as landing? That's just schoolboy design error 101. Make that mistake, land and then your thruster takeoff fuel is unnecessarily depleted.

I also don't like run being bound to R3, but no customizable controls...

Honestly once you've landed it's safer to die there and you don't really lose anything

I forgot but yeah that works the same as a space station , glad you didn't have to hold boost for 20 minutes

The core game remains the same as it ever has TBH, if you hated the game at vanilla, I don't think you would magically like it now. Versus vanilla though the game was already greatly improved by the Pathfinder update then made even stronger by Atlas Rises. NEXT has continued this trend in so far as new content and systems, it's an excellent experience.

Only the first is free, that's how they get you hooked :P

If you save a freighter after than you'll get an opportunity to buy it at a reduced price only.

Found a crashed ship with like 25 slots, but tons of junk in the slots. Then I traded that for one with 24, I believe. Basically a four mill upgrade to my starter ship! I love the freighter base!

There's still some potential I wish they'd used a bit better. They've put a lot more NPCs in stations etc, but it still feels extremely static. I like the ships coming in and out, but if ships came in, NPCs walked out of them, walked around the stations.. That's some actual animation! I keep thinking back of why I feel places in, say, Mass Effect feel more alive, in ways that don't relate to people having actual voices. I think it's that kind of thing. You can just a bit too easily see 'behind the veil' of the game, and see that it's just actors placed in the world. If I do a "find the missing person" mission, I know it's just gonna be a guy standing in a dead building. I don't feel like I found an actual entity.

Honestly, it's the same game as two years ago with a lot more content and better visuals. If you don't like crafting endlessly to make A operational, turn around and craft some more to make B operational, you most likely won't enjoy the main loop. However, there is a creative mode now that eliminates a lot of the tedium for those that just want to explore and build stuff.

I'd say the game is worth it for anyone curious at $20. The Xbox version at $50 is a tougher sell because it's a niche game for sure.

Gamecentral review:

https://metro.co.uk/2018/07/30/no-mans-sky-next-xbox-one-review-reaching-for-the-stars-7774860/

summation:

In Short: The updates have brought definite improvement, but even after two years the huge scope and ambition only serves to hide how simplistic and repetitive the gameplay is.
Pros: Enormous game world is a pleasure to explore even when you know all its tricks. Competent space combat. Multiplayer, freighters, and third person view are all welcome. Excellent art design.
Cons: Highly repetitive main gameplay loop, that requires little skill and offers too little excitement. Flawed implementation of aliens, both intelligent and otherwise. Lots of minor bugs and performance issues.
Score: 7/10

You are the dead.

RIP

Do you have any items you can break down that might give you the needed items?

I found some di-hydrogen crystals in a cave 'relatively' close to my ship just before a toxic storm hit. Took shelter in the cave for a few minutes. Left the cave, and arrived to my ship just in time before another weather alarm message popped on screen. This game :D

I think these are understandable criticisms, and while I share some of those concerns I think it's just a particular kind of game. A lot of people said around launch that it's a zen game to just kind of hang out in and do stuff with the beautiful environments and immersive sounds -- I scoffed at that notion a bit then, but with how much better the experience is now I think that's actually true.

I also think they're going to keep adding to it, and chances seem good that they'll be looking to add more exciting encounters/content if not focusing on developing the combat side a bit more -- which, in my opinion, is the weakest area of the game mechanically (which is acceptable given that this is not a combat focused game, but it'd still be nice to have some improvements).

Yea I read that somewhere on the interwebz. Thanks for the tip though :)

I was gonna look around all the sector to scan a cobalt rich planet or something lol

Happened to me last night (was playing around with the whole sentinel system to test some stuff :p)

Apparently you can just land on a planet, hide somewhere (maybe reload your auto-save in-between), and you'll be fine.

God damnit. I got 5 before I just quit and left. I could have just run inside!?
Yeah. They can't even get up the ramp so if you want to kill them (e.g. because you have a kill X predators/creatures mission) you can actually step just far enough outside in order to take our your weapon and just pick 'em off! They also can't get up on the roof so you can jetpack up there in a pinch but if the planet has hazards or storms you're better off getting inside as it restores your hazard protection too.

You need to understand that this is an untestable game (literally the words Sean Murray used himself). No amount of testers can test the unknown problems of countless individual game saves. It's an occupational hazard with this. Or would you prefer they just left it in the trash? It's not even been a week and they've released 3 patches. Many big studios would never come close to that level.

If it was, it would never have been released.

There are bugs in any software and the bigger the scope, not to mention the smaller the team, well, the harder it is to test the software enough. End even if they encounter the bugs, they can't fix them all in a reasonable time frame.

That's all there is to it. Consumers have a right to be pissed if a bug fucks up their save. That doesn't mean the devs didn't do all they could to prevent it from happening. But still, as a consumer, you're left with a broken product not matter how good willed the devs are.

goddamn, my game is becoming too buggy. A freighter mission is asking me to drop materials in a world that is completely covered in water (I assume it's a glitched planet, my ship is going underwater like it's nothing). Can't abandon mission either.

Getting an almost constant static sound in the background, which is different from the sporadic buzzing sound when using pulse engine.

Update 1.51 added a Base quest to my log, but I can't trigger the next step.
I thought these two posts had a solution, but my quest doesn't point me to a particular system at all.
saw this on youtube

To fix this glitch, do this,
#1 go to any other planet
#2 put down base computer
#3 summon frigate
#4 save game
#5 reload save
#6 talk to base computer
It's currently bugged. You have to use a base computer in the system it tells you to go to. If the objective appears in the middle of space (like it did for me), go to the system without your freighter and build a base computer, it will fix the issue. Next time you choose that quest in your log (the next time it tells you to use scan it's archives), only select it when you are at the base you want to do the quest at. That's what's helped for me so far.

Edit: You should be able to teleport back to that system as it keeps your previous locations in the teleport menu. You teleport at space stations. If you want to permanently have access to a system, build a base there.
Also the teleporter still remembers deleted bases.

I'm currently juggling between backed-up saves, but it's becoming frustrating

Do they have the ability to make clans or corps? Like can I create a corporation where my buddies can co-own ships, bases, share $, etc.?
