It can have a story and cutscenes but it all depends on how much MTX are distorting the gameplay.

The trend these days are that MTX have little to no bearing on core gameplay - especially character gacha games.

Story content are almost always can be completed easily with low rarity/F2P characters. It's the desire to have SSR rarity characters among whales, and high rarity characters are almost always overpowered to actual story content

They want to use the most popular characters so it make sense they are going before 3.

If this is successful bet they will go beyond 2.
They're not touching 3 because they're not interested in touching stuff they didn't work on. They worked on the first two games and went on to create Front Mission after that.

Now we wait for the Wild Arms mobile reveal.

Maybe, and by some miracle, both or one of these games could pull a Fate/Grand Order money, so that it could use to develop traditional console game... : |

It's so sad seeing old classics getting mobile only sequels. No doubt it will require a online connection and thus will be shut down and gone forever in a few years.
Now if it comes to console as a offline playable game I'd be very interested.

I don't think the fans of Arc the Lad 1 & 2 want F2P gacha with stamina meters.

That.... create new IP, but stop doing that with every single RPG series that exist in the world....Too bad it work.... i hate that new trend

Imagine Gameplay/Style of Twilight Spirit with Lost Odyssey level graphic on Ps4... just imagine...

There was direct feed gameplay of a battle shown on today's SIE Japan livestream:

Well, that's definitely an SRPG

Seems like main gal is a healer not that you could tell by her design. I still really wish the character designs were better.

On gameplay, I couldn't tell much other than turns possibly being allocated by character, instead of the silly Arc 1 approach, where it was a pre-determined turn order everytime for the player characters. (I can't remember how Arc 2 did things, it feels like it was based on 'teams' but I might be mistaken)

I also noticed the player just attacked enemies head on. I wonder, does that means there's no bonus damage when attacking from behind? Or did the player not just know?

Was looking around for more information about the game and I found a bunch of things. (It's all in spoilers so the post isn't a mess of large and small images)

Someone on Twitter translated the profiles and names for the new characters (via information available on the official website):

The official site (via the pre-registration page, which I missed) has new designs for other returning characters.

This Japanese article has some other returning characters not already on the site (it also has larger versions of some of the character art.

Even in the tutorial(?) or probably an early stage, the enemies still pose a challenge, unlike most mobile games out there.

Probaly not, mobile are like a breeze until you reach the famous paywall... then this is not how your going to use tactic that going to work, but most how many star you characther have :).....

Just with stars everywhere by the UI my stomach hurt....

Whoa. That's exciting news for Arc the Lad fans. For me, it's just ripping open the old wound of saving inside Arc the Lad 2's final dungeon and then being nowhere close to capable of beating the final boss, resulting in a permanently failed game :(

It good enough for them and they made new stretch goal to 300k now.

So they exceeded expectations? That's great to hear. I knew there were some Japanese fans (mostly because there's infrequent new fan art of the series on Pixiv) but that's pretty promising

I know that feel

I mean, I eventually found I had an extra save (though it started me off before the second to last dungeon), but I remember how much it sucked when it finally hit me I couldn't beat the final boss at the level I was at.

I found Arc III to be the best of the bunch so I hate to see it retconned. Not a fan of the art style as well. The original games had a great steampunk style that was very fitting.

I think it looks cute...i'd be willing to give it a try. A bit unfair to brush it away immediately because of mobile

Given that high level content is usually the only half-way interesting content in these grind heavy gacha games, I'd say gacha crap does affect and ruin the core gameplay.

Mobile isn't the issue. Gacha is. It's cancer to gaming.

Albeit I'm sure 99,99% that this won't have localization, and I never mobile gaming in the first place, I'm interested to see in the future for this because of the original staffs that develop the GOAT Arc the Lad game, which is Arc the Lad 2, in my opinion.

Does Sony own the Arc the Lad franchise or were they just publishing and co-developing those games on PS1 and PS2?

Even though the series technically has a non-PlayStation title, I'm pretty sure Sony owns the Arc the Lad franchise

I guess I can understand them ignoring Arc the Lad 3's story, but I wouldn't mind them bringing over the cast of 3 into this new canon / version of events. Cheryl's pretty cool imo

I am up for new Arc the Lad on any platform so hopefully this is brought over. Being such a set cast of characters I am guessing any Gacha elements will be costume/Weapon related which are usually the easiest to ignore.

It was actualy pretty good, (a little unbalance but still) this is the true sequel to 2.... This is like the only wonderswan color game that i have :). I would totally take another game like this compare to a gatcha star bs....

The coloring on Elc's 4-star design immediately made me think of the anime design, mostly for the coloring of the pants and the shoulder pads. I don't know if that's what they were going for, though it's certainly not supposed to be his original design (the 3-star design is that, I even double checked for it)

You've played that game? How is it? Also do you know what the game's story is about? I'd really love to know more about the game, feels like there's no info at all about the game in English.

Sure i've play it , from my memories the game structure is a little like Arc the Lad 3, where you get storyline quest from the Guild, but everything else is like 2, there are some reuse music. Other then that it's pretty basic Arc the lad. Same turn based grid combat, dungeon with couple of room, Overworld map like 2.

I fucking love Arc the Lad. My feelings can be summed up by the death-by-snu-snu gif.

Ugh I love Arc the Lad. Sony, give us the original games in a collection ;A;

I might check this game out. I need something to fill the void that Arc the Lad left in my heart so many years ago, even if it is a mobile game.

I just noticed the official account retweeted a (Japanese) interview of the developers. I don't understand any of it but they did have a piece of art of the new characters / designs in a more conventional artstyle

Game is out. Any impressions?

I'd also like to hear some impressions, because I'm still busy trying to figure out how I'm supposed to download the game (I don't understand how phones work, or how I'm supposed to update to Android 5.0)

First I have heard of this. I think I'm over being annoyed with mobile revivals and have accepted that all these old RPG series as I knew them are dead, which they would be with or without these.

Hope it's fun for the folks who are into these, I'd be all for 'em if one of them turns out to be really great.
