My dad wants to melt his television with insane PC graphics...

This weekend, we're putting the finishing touches on my parents place nearly a year after hurricane harvey, and for my dad specifically this means finally getting to enjoy his christmas presents from last year: a new 4K TV and a powerful gaming computer.

He wants some real showpiece games on his PC for his new TV beyond Doom, which was my recommendation. Any suggestions for some real showstopping PC graphics to throw his way?

Witcher 3 looks pretty amazing in 4k. Don't know what specs you have, but a 1080 ti gets really close to holding 60fps too at the resolution.

He has a standard GTX 1080, not a ti. AMD Ryzen... can't remember which model off the top of my head, with 16gb DDR3.

It's no monster, but definitely a huge step up from his last rig which had some rinky-dink integrated card and an old core 2 duo.

How about more abstract games? Things that are like light shows, like Tempest 4000 or Rez? Anything on that front?

Battlefield 1 looks absolutely insane. As does Battlefront 2 is he's into Star Wars.

The new Forza Horizon comes out soon and fuck me, when IGN did the comparison shot of houses in-game to real life, I was literally stumped at times.

The Witness must look pretty good at 4K. Too bad it doesn't support HDR on PC.

edit: just thought of Nex Machina, pretty fun game with HDR support.

Far Cry 5 is a good one, PC + 4k/hdr looks really, really spectacular. Same for the recent DICE games, Battlefield 1 and Battlefront 1 and 2 are really amazing.

Final Fantasy XV is the best looking PC game ever but whatever your PC is you will *not* get 4k at a consistent 60 FPS maxed out, keep that in mind

Also Crysis 3, Witcher 3, Assassin's Creed Origins

so I don't have a 4k tv myself, so I haven't had to deal with HDR, but what's the deal with it? Not all games support it? Of the games listed ITT, which ones have HDR support?

There are like 4 games on PC that support HDR and like 2 that supports it properly lol

FFXV supports it

Ghost Recon Wildlands is one of the best looking games out there.
Wildlands is also 67% off on uPlay atm fyi


Also Assassins Creed Origins.

Modded + .ini tweaked + ReShade'd Witcher 3 still looks absolutely killer. The Metro Redux games would look amazing in 4K.

How is CEMU these days? Is it possible to run Breath of the Wild at 4k these days without stutter? He has my old WiiU and BotW but never played them, if the game is fully playable without major faults start to finish on CEMU that would probably interest him.
