I barely see anyone mentioning the Golden Sun's soundtrack when talking about the game, or when talking about RPG soundtracks, or even in best GBA music lists.

While most of the music in the game is cheery, to me the best tracks are actually the amazingly sad ones. This game has a disproportional amount of town music that while great, are really sad and depressing. Just listen to these and tell me you don't feel some kind of despair.

Snow Covered City

Then there's the Cave Theme, it sounds like there's a funeral procession happening inside them.

These tracks reminds me a lot of the Illusion of Gaia soundtrack, both in the style and instrumentation. It's like the music wants to be hopeful, but they have this underlying feeling of despair and sadness. Just like the Gaia soundtrack.

As for some awesome tracks that are not depressing? There's the Sol Sanctum theme - it fucking rocks!

And the Venus Lighthouse theme:

I've only really played the first Golden Sun, still have yet to play The Lost Age or Dark Dawn. What are some good music tracks from the sequels?

I expect a dog pile here, but I have to say it.

Dark Dawn had the best battle music in the entire franchise from normal battles to boss themes.

I have so fond memories of Golden Sun, huge part of my childhood. I really should find a way to play it again in the best condition possible. The Lost Age, while very good, didn't left as much memories than the first one (never played Dark Down).

Not original but:

I guess we'll never have anything from this IP (all I really want is the two first games remade with Octopath Traveler's engine :( )

It's so cool that the game was composed by the same guy who did Dark Souls. I didn't know until I played Dark Souls 3, haha.

Venus Lighthouse theme is the GOAT.

It also heavily reminds me of the final dungeon theme from Tales of Symphonia, also composed by Sakuraba

I've actually been thinking about Golden Sun's music while playing Octopath Traveller, would really like to replay the series in the future if it ever were to be re-redsel (hopefully as one game).

Yep, Golden Sun's OST is really good! It's my go-to defense when people say GBA music sucked. I like the Dark Dawn OST too.

Haven't touched this series since playing 1 in middle school, but Venus Lighthouse def is a rush of memories.

If you loved 1 you're missing out big time with TLA. That game is much longer, deeper and more interesting than 1. Also more challenging and more side content.

The cutscenes are a bit long though, doesn't hurt if you can speed them up.

It's been a long long time since I last played it, but I can still remember the forest (Town of Contingo?) and desert themes pretty clearly.
All of the battle themes are pretty kickin' too, tho the original "Isaac" version is still my favourite.
I remember really liking this track

That Garoh track from GS2 stood out to me too

I would pay big money to have this be remade from the ground up visually but still keep the game mechanics

Everything about those (first two) games are amazing.

Graphics, music, gameplay, puzzle solving, dungeons, it's all fantastic.

God these games are so amazing. And to think this is a Nintendo RPG that's so different than what you'd expect from Nintendo. I want Golden Sun to comeback bigger than ever and to be a staple IP.

Seriously. Just, so good in so many aspects. I know people often complained about the amount of dialogue in the game but even young me in the past didn't mind at all because I thought it was well written and engaging. Zero sexualization bullshit either, from character design to narratives.

My only 2 'major'' complaints with the GBA titles are how the djinn-based class system is theoretically awesome but due to balance and impracticability reasons not really viable and that the rather strong weapon unleashes dwarf most offensive Psyenergy during the later game. I was so looking forward to DD hopefully addressing that and otherwise just keeping/improving what's already good... and instead that game made that worse (and everything else really q.q).

But I think the best theme in the entire series is The Elemental Stars

Yeh, I'm inclined to agree nowadays. What a damn strong track at one of the earlier story beats. It sure helped the "Wise One" leaving a strong impression on me.

I expect a dog pile here, but I have to say it.

Consider yourself dogpiled!

IIRC I was only really liking one track of DD with everything else feeling mediocre on my first and only playthrough. And a mediocre OST as a followup to the GBA titles? No can do...

Love the music in these games.

Also, check out these videos of someone recreating some of the songs on an actual Roland SC-88 (what the games midis were originally sampled from). It sounds a lot crisper which is neat.

The only real complaint about the Golden Sun games is that they're a bit heavy on exposition and a bit light on balance. They were definitely enjoyable back then though. For sure. And Sakuraba's scores, from before he started sounding TOO samey, are awwwesome.
