Just began playing this tonight.

For the OP song, I guess I can say "you tried?" Honestly it would have been better to just have no voices. After about 2 hours of playing I finally had to mute them all. Would love to hear Vic's thoughts on the whole dubbing situation for this game. That being said I am enjoying the gameplay and hope to power through this before some more big titles hit later this year.

Vic would like to chime in, but he indicated there isn't validation going on right now?

I see there's an OT for Summon Night 6 on resetera, but too bad I can't answer any of the posts with questions as they're not validating registrations...

I'm guessing it's more they are just swamped with registrations to pour through than not validating any longer. But this is what he said in regards to the VA:

People are kinder than I expected overall on the dubbing, actually. We had to do almost 22,000 lines of dialogue in a little less than 5 months, so the dub is okay, but if I could have used the extra time we waited to get the final ROM, I could have polished it so much more. Basically lesson learned - always get the source code. Still, reviews are trending at 75-80%, so not much to complain about. That's in line with the Japanese version. I'm just glad it's OUT for people to finally enjoy!

Is there no one Vic can contact to maybe speed up his approval? Would love to have him in this thread, and other threads revolving around localization in the future.

I sent a PM to some staff members to see if we could get him here. Let me prod again to see how it's going.

Uh, Ray and Rexx's voices sound like they recorded their lines over Skype or something.
Noticeably low quality audio, especially as they play in scenes with others that are normal.

Game is fun so far, though. Done over half the fishing stuff which is weirdly satisfying.

Is there basically 0 chance we get a Japanese Audio DLC?

I pre-ordered this game immediately because i love Strategy JRPGs and want to support all niche games coming west, but i just cannot believe what I heard in the first 10 minutes... I Literally skipped story cutscenes just to make them stop. And then in the first fight, the main character said something after dodging an enemy attack that made me turn the game off. I appreciate all the work that went in localizing this game of course, but i just can't help but be brutally honest.

Good news though - most of the game isn't voiced! Also, you can mute the voices.

Got my wonderful edition in today. Blue/Vita here, but it's just nice to have!

It's likely the first playstation game with a manual i've Bought new since the last PSP game I got (summon night 5... wait a second)

I work in packaging engineering and thought the box was well designed and definitely reflects the premium product within. Nice job!

Game is really good! I'm not very far, but have very much enjoyed my time with it. Graphics are super clean. I put it on normal difficulty, but the second battle I tried, I died right away. Oops!

When starting a Summon Night game it's usually imperative that you do a side stage or two to be strong enough to continue the story. :)

Received mine yesterday. Have purchased several of Vic's previous collector editions (Lunar 1 & 2, Arc the Lad) and would have to say this one is his best yet. Mine is PS4 and number 175.

Voice acting aside, how is the game? I quite liked SN5's characters and unique mechanics.

Is it me or is unitization bad because your real characters won't gain any skill points if the summon kills stuff
maybe I'm missing something here

Solid SRPG. Very wordy. Personally I think 5 is better but 6 is great.

Is the story any good in this game? Should recieve my copy soon!
Story is pretty interesting. Even if you don't know any of the characters in the series, the story around Raj, Amu, and Ist is pretty fun.

I've never liked unitization. Always felt like a waste to me. Why summon the monster when all it does is limit the spellcasting abilities of a bunch of characters and take away potential SP gain if the Summon actually does stuff?

How big a role does Aty have? She's great in PxZ2.
I'm 60% through the game and so far her involvement has been on par with other series characters. Mostly occasionally throwing a line in during conversations. She does get a special ability which is pretty rare since only the Summon Night 3 protags and the three main characters in 6 have one so far.

Nearly done with the Endless Domain. Been soloing it with Raj and he's nearly level 80. Once you pass Chapter 19 you can just blast through side stages on Auto and rack up massive EXP.
Getting the Platinum for this game will be a monumental grind. All the Summonite Leaves is a daunting task and getting all the night conversations will require numerous playthroughs.

I almost want to do it. Almost. But having to do numerous playthroughs is a bit too much. Also, I wonder what the requirements for the Karma ending are. According to trophy statistics no one's gotten that one.

I was scouring Japanese trophy guides today and it seems like it's earned by speaking to Ist as your night conversation on the final night and choosing one of two options.

Also with a maxed-speed Natsumi on all-out attack the guides said repeat playthroughs average 5 hours which isn't...atrocious I guess.

Ooh, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

I read the bit about having a max speed character, although it was another one and not Natsumi. How many playthroughs would it take though?

Ok, so I've bounced off Summon Night 5 twice now. The beginning is just interminable. Does this pick up any faster? I'm losing patience with RPG's that don't have any gameplay in the first hour.

Not entirely sure! Gotta see what I'm able to do after a second playthrough. Some characters require more convos than others to get their endings.

I mean, the first battle happens sooner but there's also a lot more dialogue between battles. Most of it is optional but this time it's all between characters you probably aren't familiar with and thus care even less about.

I've got a couple days off in December so maybe I'll try to put some real time into the game then and see if it clicks. I certainly want to get into these games, it's just not really a good fit for my gaming time atm.

I noticed some characters only get half a heart after a convo. I assume I chose the correct answer unless there's a no affection, half-affection and full affection answer.

I dunno. It's kinda complex and it doesn't help that there are side conversations that can trigger questions and those show the same "gained affection!" animation if you answer them well.
Kinda annoying that the game was pretty niche even in Japan. There's SO little information about the nitty gritty mechanics.

Wait, really? Haven't encountered any. At least I'm not the only one irked by the lack of info. Guess it'll be trial and error then.

I'll probably be stuck fishing forever though.

Yeah, at one point Magna was talking with one of the MCs and they got into a conversation about which of the SN2 Summons fit him best. I picked Hasaha because this Magna has Hasaha and he liked that and it showed the animation. I had something similar happen in a conversation about who could catch fish the best with a bunch of different characters.

And yeah, fishing is annoying. Minimum sizes are completely luck-based so it could take AGES to finish it.

EDIT: Oooh, one strategy for character endings is to replay chapter 17-24 with a save before the end of 17. Might be marginally less tedious than playing the whole game multiple times?

Guess you'd only need to go through the game twice with that method? That's certainly way better than replaying it 467753 times :P.

Victor repeatedly said this was the biggest voice acting job they've ever done. So I'm guessing they just had to really slum it on the budget.

The VA budget was substantially larger than any game I've ever done. The issue was time. We had about 5 months to record over 20k lines (it was close to 22k) with 60 speaking parts that added up to 18 hours of speech. That's just insanity. For some perspective, we spent more time than that on Popful Mail, which had 3k lines. Also spent more than 5 months on Growlanser which had about half as much as SN6. Since we didn't have the source code, we were stuck with an overly aggressive schedule. The crazy part is we were pretty much done this past March after grinding it out at a crazy pace, then we ended up losing almost 6 months waiting on technical issues we couldn't control. We could have used to take our time on the recording.

How long does it take to finish this game ?

One time through, normal mode (which is pretty easy), no side stuff like Endless Domain or Dispatch Quests, about 30 hours. If you skip dialogue (the game lets you skip over whole events at a time), a lot less. There's a lot of talking.

But if you want all the (35+) endings (Melgitos' is my favorite) and do the side stuff in Endless Domain and Dispatch Quests, well over 100 hours.

They definitely lost the feel that these brought to the series in 5 and 6. It's a real shame.

Probably the developer shuffle. The world lore is the same, and there's a LOT there, so I didn't mind too much. The smaller parties of SN5 was the only thing that bothered me.

What the hell is up with Bulrell constantly referring to all women as dumb bitches and retarded? It's so off-putting.

Well, he's a demon. His talk is rude, but actually the US version is less rude on an ongoing basis than the Japanese. After some establishing stuff, he doesn't say things like "bitch" all that much. About 5 times in the whole game. I got tired of it pretty quickly and toned it down. You're welcome.
