One of the greatest shows ever. So deliciously campy and RIDICULOUS god I adore this show. And all the episodes are on Hulu!!!!

Gotham,

About halfway through season 1 they just decided to go crazy with it.

Best production value on the major networks atm as well.

Passions was wild even for soap tbh.

Yep, Passions is like the most ridiculous tv thow in the history of television.

A soap opera that's outlandish even for soaps?! Now that's something I gotta see!

Thanks again for the recs, everyone.

Of the ones mentioned so far, it looks like Dynasty, Passions, and Empire are what I'll be watching next. I've seen a little bit of Empire, but only a couple of episodes. Looks like shit's about to get real!

Looks like I'll be watching Pretty Little Liars too.

Pretty Little Liars for sure. huge guilty pleasure of mine. It is so fucking absurd at times it actively hurts.

For some reason I keep mixing this show up with an HBO show that has a similar name. Anybody know what show I'm talking about?

EDIT:

Found it. It's called Big Little Lies. I've seen this show, not Pretty Little Liars

Big Little Lies.

Also, I highly recommend at least checking out the Jane the Virgin pilot. If it hooks you, then I'd watch that first. It's a far better show than Empire, with twists that are earned and writing that actually makes sense.

I'm well aware of the greatness of both LOST and Twin Peaks. Totally different kind of shows, but they're both some of my favorite shows ever so I'm not going to pit them against each other.

Not enough Jane the Virgin recommendations. Sweet show featuring an endearing cast that is juxtaposed with insane twists and turns.

Season finales are particularly crazy.

There's an episode of Riverdale where Archie and his friends start a terrorist cell to hunt down a serial killer

The AV Club recap of that episode was incredible. Archie and friends looked like they were making a porno.
Say what now?
Latter half of Agents of Shield season 1, season 2, and season 4 :)
Nah. I love that show to death, but no. Everything in there is tame compared to shit like Empire.
I guess Empire counts. This show is off the wall stupid. They do the dumbest shit, then explain it away with even more dumb shit. I think in one episode they had to go retrieve a dead body that was buried in the woods, so their lawyer pulled out a dead body detector out of his trunk:

Empire is the most bat-shit shit I've seen. But Empire ain't for everyone

Few shows enrage me like Empire. It has such a strong premise, but I've never seen a show spiral into nothingness so quickly.
S1-2 is just legit good television. Crazy, but good. S3 it becomes a bumbling mess and I dropped it 2 minutes into S04E02. Once erectile dysfunction became a plotpoint and Cookie was the worst, I was out.

This is not the resetera I knew as a boy! Someone comes in asking for soap comparable television and no one has brought up Professional Wrestling? What the eff is wrong with you people! But yeah, Jane the Virgin (or really any of the non superhero CW shows) is a good entry point for what you are looking for.

You seriously will get hooked

Lawd almighty at the twists and turns

It does Jump the Shark after awhile, but the first few seasons, whew

That show made you go I don't believe this shit, then tune in tomorrow and go I don't believe this shit more than the I don't believe the shit from yesterday, just on repeat

By the time you reach the crescendo, your reality becomes the soap opera, no joke

If you want trashy TV that has shade with a twist, Dirty Sexy Money, my God that show oozed what your looking for

Samurai Flamenco is a pretty wild ride. To explain why would be spoiling it, though.

Probably only worth it if you enjoy Japanese henshin hero stuff on some level, though.

The People vs. OJ Simpson, because it's pretty much lifted from the real events with little fictionalization. At some points you have to remember it's basically true and some of the shit that happens would have people calling bullshit on the writers for being complete hacks.

Although it's an older show, the final season of Felicity gives you a hilarious out of nowhere reminder that this is J.J. Abrams you're dealing with.

Speaking of Abrams, Alias qualifies here.

Speaking to both shows, I've never been able to make it to the end of either one, so I'm still in the dark in terms of knowing how crazy it gets!

I loved Fringe though. One of the best shows of all time.

You make a good point. I've never given wrestling a fair shake. I'm gonna make an honest effort to watch it one of these days.

Riverdale is an amazing show.

I've seen season 1 but what the hell is this? I love it!

Riverdale is the embodiment of what you're looking for

Yeah, I gotta get back into it.

First show that came to mind was Twin Peaks.

Breaking Bad could also apply, but in a different way (was always kind've in awe at how [just about] every episode seemed to move the plot along in a meaningful way).

Lots of votes for Jane the Virgin. Hmmm, might have to rethink my priorities. I had no idea this show was even remotely in this category!

Season 2 of American Horror Story. To give an idea of insane it gets, it features aliens, demons and an adult Anne Frank.

The other seasons get weird, but nothing compares.

Oh yeah and not just that, it's also excellent show by all standards. Great recommendation! Even if it wouldn't be exactly what OP was asking for, it's worth to see just because it's so good.

I've seen it. Great show! There are some real tear-jerker moments in there too!

24. All of the twists in that show are absolutely bananas.

One of the main reasons I watched every single season. The plots were utterly ridiculous and I absolutely loved every moment of them!

This is a good one. Stupidly good.

Ever wanted to see a guy have sex with a couch? Nip/Tuck got ya covered.

A genuinely good show for the first two seasons before developing into pure and utter (ridiculously entertaining) nonsense from season 3 onwards. I used to hate-watch it at the time. It just got absolutely bonkers by the end.

Prison Break is another great one full of soap opera level twists and turns that make little sense.

Mr. Robot. I remember reading on here that people predicted some of the crazy shit that happened but I sure as hell saw none of it coming.

Riverdale is also good for what you're looking for. It's an absolute trash show but I love it.
