man I've always tried to fit this game in somewhere but never have been able to

With it between Y0 and Dead Cells it's probably gonna be a wait on it game for me. Again =\

I'll get to it eventually I guess. Man, Cosmic Star Heroine is also coming out around that time too, huh? Busy, busy, busy here lately for games lol

Oh of course, I'm not trying to imply someone doesn't have the right to enjoy it or can't enjoy it. I'm just disagreeing with his notion that the people who don't like the collection do so purely out some idiotic sense of malice towards nintendo some such garbage.

I also stand by my statement that I couldn't in good faith recommend it. Whether it bothers you or not that's fine, but me personally I'm gonna sit here and try and make that judgement call for someone and just tell them I think the input lag is highly detrimental to the gameplay. Again if they still want to buy it that's cool, but I'm not gonna sit here and pretend the issue does not exist or something.
but nobody was talking about that?! that's what's confusing me

I think it's more that guy is just like that. Almost every single post I've seen him make in this thread he's been a jerk to someone. Like that poor dude who just asked a simple question about the Resident Evil game. I mean really, why act like that?

It says to me more that he lacks the ability to parse opinions other than his own without boiling them down to black/white "you're an idiot if you're on the other side of me" thinking. If he disagreed with me, he could have just posted why he did so and we could have had a discussion. Instead he instantly escalated the situation and attacked me over the statement for no real reason. It's just childish.
when did I attack you!??!?!? I wasn't even talking to you?!?

the hell lol

The cards are completely random, there's no way to follow them, so it's another game of chance. The card wheel you can follow, but it stops at various speeds, so that one is also still largely luck when it's crowded with fails.

That's just part of the game. So much of your fate is governed by chance (a recurring theme). You can always boost your odds by supplying yourself with good encounter cards and by doing really well in combat, though. I've always thought it was fair (though definitely very frustrating at times).

Later missions get very, very challenging.
Ah, thanks for the reply. I will stop trying to follow them and straining my eyes then! I knew one of them was somewhat skill based. Obviously it must be the wheel one.

Damn, so many games on sale. I'm definately interested in Mega Man Legacy Collection 2, Rive: Ultimate Edition, Super Meat Boy and Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap. But I don't want to buy too many games at once, so I don't know which I should buy. Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 sounds probably the best choice, 4 games in one package, although I have MM7 already on Wii U and have played MM9 before for a bit.

I should really stop lookin at this thread before i buy more its for my own goodwill i don't want to let my ADHD impulse let me buy way to many games XD.

Squiddo you can't buy all good games keep a budget stick to it and buy what you truly want to play most and leave the others or get em in a sale way later.

XD

I downloaded the Taiko no Tatsujin demo from the japanese store out of curiosty and it's really fun. Motion controls are even doable on easier difficulties and feel great (when they work), but are too imprecise to be viable on higher difficulties. Good thing you also have the buttons option. I'll keep an eye on it when it releases in the west.

August is going to be a bloodbath. It could have 15 or more anticipated games for the next thread but I'll only choose ten.

I just want to put in a couple cents on this. I will gladly vouch for what Adam said. TheMoon is a passionate poster as Adam said and I think TheMoon won't mind me saying that (1) English is not his first language and (2) there have been several misunderstandings about his intentions or level of snark (since he means for there to be none at all) in his posts. I've known him for several years and seen this happen a bunch. He means something helpful and a little impassioned, but is read as being harsh. From my one-on-one interactions with him and from most posts he makes I can tell you he isn't meaning to sound that way. I think it's mainly a combo of not being his first language so some nuances are missed (though his English is superb in the actual linguistics) and of the pitfalls of online writings to begin with, i.e. insofar as it's really tough to impart tone and infer tone from them.

pa22word I can totally understand how you read the posts as you did especially not knowing these aspects going in. I think some of the posts he makes are meant to be making a point passionately but just read otherwise despite his best efforts and intentions. Basically just want to vouch for him that he is a really good guy and means very well.

Anyway, I really enjoy the posts from all three of you so please keep your knowledge, thoughtful and well written posts coming in here, it makes the thread very enjoyable and engrossing to read.

Thanks max.

Yea, as I've explained in the past when this came up: if you'd heard me say most of this out loud, you'd hardly feel "attacked" or something since there is always a playful tone implied that apparently is often lost in text form. At the same time, I don't feel like changing my writing-style much just to counter this..

But full disclosure: that Resident Evil-dig the other day was fully intended as such since that is a pet-peeve of mine. Seen it to much to just blink it away, asking whether popular and acclaimed games are "any good" is just bizarre to me. Still, no need to overvalue it as an "attack" or anything. Sometimes ya gotta deal with some snark. :)

And again about the specific Mega Man thing: it was a reference to a discussion from a few months ago where someone brought up the small/YMMV game issues spiraling out of control through a game of telephone. Not much more to it. Sorry you felt that was an attack but it wasn't anything close to a direct-response to your post. Hence my complete confusion at the reaction.

And in addition to all these games, you also have betas/demos. FighterZ is already confirmed, MHGU is expected to have one and a surprise or two could happen too (Dark Souls ? :p )

Busy month really !

Are eShop downloads slow for anyone else? I've got a 100Mbps connection but downloads are going at 3.5Mbps which is ridiculous. Other devices like my phone are getting full download speeds.

MAN, that is a hard list to choose from! But I wanna try to tackle it anyway. My recommendations:

1. Megan Man Legacy 2 - MM9 is great if you've never played it, and worth the price of the collection alone. My Top 2 of the Classic series
2. Super Meat Boy - One of the greatest of all time. The OST is nerfed from the originial, but whatever.
3. Wonder Boy Dragon's Trap - Great game, but it's a short experience and maybe you'll play it through again, but not much to come back after you finish it. There's defniely more dollar value in the other games.

But I would actually go something different than all those since you're clearly looking at 2D Platformers:

HOLLOW KNIGHT

It's not on sale but it's my GOTY right now and in my Top 10 greatest games of all time. I would easily "trade" all the games on your list for Hollow Knight.

I'm late to the discussion and this will sound stupidly obvious, but emoticons are a useful tool to convey a friendly tone if that's what ya'll are going for. Kinda hard to confuse someone for animosity that way, unless they're super passive-aggressive or something. :P

No kidding. I'm definitely ALL-IN on:

1. Picross S2 - this is for my wife. I think the game okay. She loves the series
2. Minit - LOOKS so cool!
3. Overcoooked 2! - Already preordered

I'm undecided on:

1. Dead Cells - This game has so much praise, but the art style looks meh to me and the Rougelike isn't my genre (at least the only other one I've tried is Gungeon. It was good/okay)
2. Cosmic Star Heroine - I already have this on Steam, but I want it again. And I'm playing Octopath, do I need another JRPG? I want to buy it and probably just play it later. That 10% discount is like a hook for me, even though it's only a freaking $1.50 off lol

To complicate this problem is the fact that I have $175 in my eShop account. I HAVE the money, but I don't want to burn it all in a month!!

I totally agree. I think emoticons are under-appreciated. Also, I heartily guffawed when I read your post earlier about the Taco Bell game. Thank you for that. The tagline for the inevitable Switch port could be "we're gonna need a bigger SD card." >_>

I'm typically not a big fan of Roguelike games either; however (without saying too much due to embargo), I have been enjoying my time with Dead Cells. The weapons, setting, music, and core gameplay have all resonated well with me. I was very skeptical of whether or not I would enjoy it, but it is quickly becoming a title I pick up, play in a short burst (or until I die or clear an area) and then return to it a bit later. I'll have some footage of the Switch version coming late next week.

On an unrelated note, I hope to bring everyone here direct-feed undocked Switch gameplay shortly. I'm trying to gather funds to buy the mod needed to do so and will then offer docked/undocked direct-feed footage & comparisons for the more pressing games so that everyone can have a better idea of how a game performs in both modes.

Is it 60 fps?

I already bought it due to the discount so I hope so...

During the first 10 days of August, the Switch eShop will be getting:
* Iconoclasts
* Overcooked! 2
* Okami HD
* Picross S2 (probably)
* Minit
* Minecraft Story Mode: Season Two
* Dead Cells

...and much more.

I seem to never get used to the difference between the Switch and the Wii U regarding the eShop releases.

Well I don't really think it's just him, honestly. The use of emoticons as snark has been a thing in recent years to the point where if someone posts a standard ass :) smiley it's hard to parse whether or not they're being a snarky jackass. We even had a thread on it a while back where a dude was confused about it and half the forum used the emoticon as snark in reply to his question.

Leave it up to a few jackasses to ruin it for everyone, basically...as someone who makes hefty usage of emoticons myself it's pretty annoying tbqh.

Yup, it can feel overwhelming at times (but in a good way).

And we still have plenty of quality Switch eShop releases planned for this year like The Messenger, Undertale, Hyper Light Drifter, and Toe Jam & Earl.

Best selection they've offered by far. After redeeming Severed on 3DS, the Wii U version is indeed showing up as a free download for me so the cross-buy incentive is still in effect.

Thanks for confirming this. I've been migrating as much as I can to the Switch, and was interested in Severed entirely on the strength of Guacamelee, but held off on it there as a consideration for later. Glad to know I can now approach it with stylus play on the screen of my choosing, and cheaply too given the new point scaling. This is precisely why I still bank my Gold Points instead of using them on eShop credit right away—you never know when the older platforms might get something appealing that one is on the fence about outright buying, which was what I missed about the old Club Nintendo norm of redeeming coins for full games rather than discounts that necessitated more spending; it encourages me to take risks.

And I know I'm a few pages late to this, but I'm one of the people who has been pushing Graceful Explosion Machine as a kind of bite-sized mini-Bayonetta since day one, and I want to reassert that it really is that good. I S-ranked all the standard stages and put it down, but the chatter about it has reminded me that I should go back to mop up S+ (when you clear an entire stage in a single perfect combo) and run the marathon challenges as well. Incredible value, and even if you don't think of yourself as a high-score-chasing player, the medal benchmarks give you something very concrete to work towards. One of the great early showcases for HD Rumble, too.

So Banner Saga 3 is $24.99 everywhere.

All 3 games are on Switch.

On PS4 you can get the trilogy as a bundle for $50, $45 during the promotion and $39.99 if you have PS Plus.

Once again, Switch is the most expensive platform.
