im a little glad they acknowledged this, since this was my major issue with prerec's reviews. the thing that works for me about rlm's content is the mix of casual banter filtered through the prism of their appreciation of film as a medium. prerec wound up being two dudes talking very casually about games with no real insight into how games work beyond their most functional level. that's all good for casual conversation, but it doesn't make for particularly interesting videos.

sad to see the end of an era though, i tuned into the streams occasionally. hopefully they actually end up pulling Mike in tomorrow after all

That's basically why I watched their "reviews," I just wanted to know what they thought of a game. I wasn't looking for some deep review.

I'm amazed they didn't bring up that it's Hamlet.

Except we're focused on Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Hamlet is a girl and trying to get back the brewery from Claudius (sort of spread around between her step dad [named Claude if I remember correctly], but mostly Max Von Sydow, although you could make some Polonius arguments for some of that stuff) after he murdered her father. Moms named Gertrude, they're not really trying to hide it. Also less people die, but there are drowning scenes (two!), ghosts, and mental illness.

It's better than Lion King.

Damn, almost forgot.

I haven't seen Strange Brew since I caught it on Cable like 20+ years ago.

Also, where in that video specifically do they talk about why they're stopping? It's like 2.5 hours long and there's a second part that's just as long. I don't even care about the game they're playing there. lol

It was at the beginning, before they started playing.

I also agree that they didn't show any ambition to grow more 'professional' in order to talk about games in a less casual way for review purposes. I'll still miss their semi-regular 'reviews' which were more like over-produced podcasts were they focussed on one particular game. My gaming taste is roughly in line with them, so I naturally appreciated pretty much all of their reviews.
Even though they didn't say it, I must assume that Jack also didn't appreciate that his good work on editing their conversations didn't gain that many views considering his working hours. The streams are inifinitely easy to make content by comparison. But I applaud them for avoiding the trap of letting even those get stale. Would have become hypocritical and thus embarrassing if one considers that such developments are one of redlettermedia's most hated tropes.

I dislike SCTV (love Kids in the Hall though) and have never seen Strange Brew. I'm a terrible Canadian.

Jim's hilarious this episode.

This was surprisingly probably one of my favorite re:view episodes. Really like the Canadians.

Jim has really been much better his last few appearances on RLM stuff. Honestly, early on it felt like he just sat there and was kind of useless (and a bit of a buzzkill) during their discussions, but he has been more open and much funnier lately.

I was always a fan of Colin, if for no other reason than seeing him try (and fail) not to laugh at some of Mike's more inappropriate jokes.

I think Jim was just camera shy and probably introverted, but getting to know the guys more and getting more accustomed to the camera he has gotten more confident.

During season 1 alone the showrunners seemingly changed their minds about what the show should be about three times (you'll know when you watch it). So theoretically you could enjoy one third of it.
The show has already fired two show runners and about 20 producers

RLM doesn't talk enough about Star Trek.
You may think I am joking but I would legitimately enjoy episode by episode content from Mike for DSC s2.

Jay thinks they're going to cancel the Rian Johnson trilogy because of the people who hate TLJ? He's an idiot.

I think that trilogy happening will depend on how well the next SW move does. That will show if TLJ backlash and Solo bombing was just a blip and things go back to normal Star Wars money printing or if TLJ really was just a meh movie that turned a lot of the audience off star wars.

Disney dont give a fuck about firing its big name creative leads. Maybe the trilogy still happens and just gets a new main creative

I think Disney will definitely go ahead with the new trilogy, with or without Rian Johnson. The beginning of a brand new Star Wars saga will be a very big draw for audiences.

If Episode 9 underperforms, that would be a very bad sign for the brand being able to carry over support into something new which does not have the benefit of nostalgia, it could even bomb worse than Solo did.

Nostalgia is exactly why I'm getting sick of star wars. Or one of the reasons at least. It's literally the smallest universe of all time. Every movie has to have endless references to other characters we know. I think a break would do wonders for this series.

Too bad d&d and Johnson are the ones in charge of those spinoffs.

i just saw about pre-rec shutting down. i hadn't watched the stream regularly after about a year, but was catching the youtubes after they put them up.

it was probably about time for the way they were creating their content. their streams were always way more entertaining.

in my head i felt like they should have done more of the "4 hours of" -- but use their streams as that. basically like a best of the worst sort of thing.

either way, sad to hear it. i generally like their hosting dynamic on the streams

also, them doing the funny voices to read all of the dialogue was a lot of fun

Kind of a disappointing Half in the Bag. I was never a big fan of trailer reactions. Maybe they could have spun it where they talk over footage of Rich Evans sitting there quietly through an entire trailer.

I wish they used they put out another BotW or re:view instead.

Is Ant-Man and the Wasp the first MCU movie they've skipped since starting Half in the Bag? Iron Man 1 & 2 and Hulk were before HitB started. I think Mike has solo MCU movie fatigue.

Concerning Pre-Rec ending, Rich totally doesn't have the personality to stream. His solo streams were mostly silent and outside of his Dead Rising 1 & 2 perfect no death runs they weren't that interesting. He would not keep up to date with generic nerdy stuff chat would talk about like movie trailers or tv shows. He would react to inoccuous tip questions with contempt sometimes and chat would pick up on it. There was a month where cgat would ask "what kind of animal would you be?" and instead of just answering the throw away question he would just say "human."

Then there would there be their occasional 10 minute atheism rant.

Jack doesn't have the most charasmatic personality, but engaged with chat. His penchant to choose obscure and sometimes boring games probably hurt the stream experience.

The real interesting streams and Jay there.

Honestly, I think a HitB for Ant-Man 2 just wouldn't have been that enjoyable of a watch.

I liked it fine, but it was a fairly straightforward movie even by Marvel standards. Not even sure what all they'd have to talk about with it other than doing a basic synopsis of it.
Nothing is that bad, other than maybe the shoe-horned in gangster badguys. The Ghost villain is fine with an OK motivation, the action is fine, and the comedy is OK (not as good as the first IMO, but still has funny moments).

Robocop commentary, hot of the presses.

On the last stream he did answer it.

And the animal he would be is *drumrolls*.................. Eagle.
