In terms of Shonen/Seinen Series, which one do you think has the best set of characters? I have a personal pick but i am curious to know what other people think of this.

One Piece. Every character is very memorable, not just the main ones. JoJo is a close second.

For me it has to be JoJo's Bizzare Adventure. It's cast is Legendary.

One Piece is first for me.

The reason for One Piece is that at this point it really feels like a world, there are so many characters and a lot of them are very memorable and have been there for a LONG time.
We have different factions each with their own strong members.
People like Koby, Garp, Ace :(, Sabo, Kid, Law, Shanks ... the list can go on and on, are all characters I think about when somebody mentions One Piece and some of them haven't been featured in ages in the manga but they are in this world and they will show up again.

One Piece

Core group of characters who get to have regular battles with both new allies and enemies appearing each arc. Also characters can be widely varied in power levels because specific skills can be useful.

Seconding JoJo, the characters are great. I've never seen One Piece but I've heard that there's a lot of memorable characters there as well.

Then of course you have the DB cast, who in my opinion are probably the most recognizable globally at least.

One Piece has the most persistent and lived in world so as a full cast it's the most impressive. The internal consistency required to create such a feat in a weekly basis is a near inhuman feat. There's something close to a hundred reasonably memorable and stand out characters.

Even more impressive is that these characters through separate arcs and journeys that have almost nothing to do with the main story but are sometimes shown in the cover chapters and then occasionally may turn up again. The amount of characters with their own agency that actively go pursue them even when they're not all that important to the certain story is astounding.

No contest imo.

Even minor characters sometimes get really good exposure like Senor Pink.

One piece.

So many characters that aren't just forgotten even efter 16/17 years oda remembers to bring them back in huge story /plot progressing ways

I'd like to say Naruto but man kishimoto dropped the balls hard in part 2.

And nah at DBZ. He can't even remember Launch :(

I like that Haikyu spreads its plot/focus around all of the characters on the team, and even delves into the key members of opposing teams as well.

Granted, it's not as long running as many of the ones mentioned here, but I think it does a really great job of not falling into the trap of only focusing on the main characters.

Hinomaru Zumou another sports manga running in Jump did as well until it's story/structure shift, it's reasonably common in team sports manga.

Bokurano is my pick. (But really the manga. The anime made too many changes.)

Part 1 naruto has a really well rounded and great cast and it's an amazing cast overall till obito and tobi become the same person ( 2 awesome characters separated combine to make 1 lame one )

I would choose One Piece if the female cast wasn't terrible. Especially, post-big boobs era.

Gintama and HxH are my choices.

Naruto cast is one of the main problems with part 2 as all the cool people are barely used. Like whatever happened to rock Lee i love that guy

One piece is my favorite because of the cast. Oda has to have an awesome personality to be able to create so many unique and amazing characters in the 20+ years that he has been writing the series.

Jojo by far and away number 1.
Gintama is a close second.
Hero academia is also very great, but I'd put One Piece ahead of it in third.
HxH rounds off my top 5

I'd say My hero, but it took us a really long time to get any info on some of the classmates and they get super sidelined. You don't learn sugarman's quirk until like 60 chapters in.

Naruto. Complain all you want about power creep and whatever else but the reason the show was beloved was because the world building and cast of characters was just spot on.

It does when that continuity ensures that cast it continually developed which isn't true for most shounens or rather the vast majority.

Interesting. My main complaint about the OP characters is how most of them are stuck in a state of arrested development. They enter the series, have a cool back story and then play they role on the ship until their character can be focused on arcs later. We just got done learning about Sanji's history, and after all of that, Sanji is barely changed by the experience.

For Seinen, Black Lagoon has to be near the top. Its characters are one of the biggest reasons why the show is so good.
