I picked up Adventure Pals last night. What an utterly delightful game. It's also a nice palate cleanser after the sublime but challenging Slime san.

I also picked up Dandara, which I'm not sure how I feel about yet. The controls still haven't clicked with me.

Didn't play much (probably an hour or two) but Dandara is kinda lacking. Art and music is great but the level design isn't really great imo. On the other hand - must have been hard for the devs to create great levels around that gameplay feature.

Can anyone recommend Candle? It has an awesome art style.

I just arrived in the second region/part. If you don't like adventures (point-and-click and its cousins) you should probably skip this game.

The game is rather lovely. It has all sorts of puzzles. It has the traditional inventory stuff (no combining items in the inventory though) and some puzzles that have you solve contraptions. It also has some platforming, but the challenge there mostly comes from thinking ahead to avoid traps (which are almost always visible, just like in Limbo/Inside, but can be hard to spot if you're not prepared) and making the right preparations. Moreover, the enemies in the game are all stronger than you, so you need to outwit them, by using things in the environment to incapacitate or kill them. Or sometimes just shove them to their death.

Backtracking might become somewhat of a problem if you get stuck, but I felt that the first part of the game was set up in a way that it's never really painful to walk around and didn't take long to get to an area I wanted to go to. The game isn't extremely hard, but some items might be hard to find (I noticed one by accident). However, if you walk every interactive element lights up when you pass it, so a possible solution is to take it slowly at times and release that run button.

The presentation is great and interactions with characters that you meet are similar to how Amanita handles it in their games: thought bubbles with visual storytelling. Unfortunately the devs felt the need to add a narrator (the same voice actor as the one in Trine) to explain what is happening and provide background information. It's the weakest part of the game by far for me and doesn't gel with the atmosphere of the game.

I just hope the game holds up.

Oh, look at that. It only took nearly three years but Rodea finally has its first price cut. I'd get it on 3DS and Wii U (if I had one) digitally despite the negative reviews, but it's the vastly superior physical-only Wii version that I really want to play first.

Kinda strange that Prope hasn't released any other games since, according to Wikipedia. Rodea'sawful sales numbers during its launch week in Japan, combined with the news of Yuji Naka joining Square Enix earlier this year, leaves you to wonder if this is the end for Prope. :(

After playing Pool Panic for a couple of hours, all I can say is holy shit

Controls are suspect but I haven't had this much fun with a game in a long, long time. Every stage is different, and it's more a physics puzzler than a pool game. It's brilliant and anarchic and I love it.

I had Wizard of Legend on my list but 1.50 off doesn't really sound that good of a deal.

Anyone can vouge for the game or should I be waiting for a better price like I planned?

Thank you very much for your impressions. I adore Amanita's games but I don't play many point and clicks otherwise (I prefer stuff like Shadowgate or (Princess Tomato). I'm thinking about giving this a go anyway.

The Mega Man collection is super fun for sure. I prefer the first collection since I prefer the original NES games (especially 2-4). Volgarr is brilliant as well, its got a learning curve to the difficulty (as its pretty tough initially and enemies take a time to adjust to) but once you get the levels down you'll be on your way to the best ending in no time! I've plat'ed both the Vita and PS4 versions of the game, its a great modern take on the Rastan design for sure.

I mean I bought it full price and love. You need to like Rogue-lites/likes. Spell combos are a lot of fun and the movement and speed is great. There is a good challenge and curve too.

Also more free updates are coming.

This looks so good. Tempted to just go ahead and preorder.

Have you played it yet elsewhere? If not, the game is stellar imo. If you loved 16 buit rpgs, incredible soundtracks, utterly unique engrossing battles and sci-fi elements, I can't more highly recommend this game. I would have paid 30-40 bucks for it, it's that good to me!!

Game of the Day

1b5a71d00f9bb38620b5beedhv.jpg

Change the order, change the outcome!

The FRAMED Collection is a new compilation of the critically-acclaimed, multi-award winning noir puzzle games FRAMED and FRAMED 2.

Rearrange the panels of an animated comic book to craft the story of a noir-styled spy adventure. Presented in an extensive series of visual puzzles, requiring logic and imagination, each panel move changes the current narrative, leading to all kinds of comedic blunders, untimely deaths, and--when solved correctly--stylish heists, fast getaways and nail-biting escapades.

The FRAMED Collection for Switch includes a completely updated UI, but retains the intuitive tactile controls of FRAMED and FRAMED 2. Perfectly suited for the portable play that the Switch is renowned for, the puzzle format of the FRAMED Collection can turn a quick train trip into a pleasurable escape, or a night away on holiday into an adventure.

FEATURES

The Complete FRAMED experience
The FRAMED Collection is a new compilation of the award-winning, noir puzzle games FRAMED and FRAMED 2. Escape effortlessly into the stylish, pulp-noir spy world of FRAMED, before delving deeper with the more challenging prequel FRAMED 2.

Simple, but uniquely clever puzzle design
Select animated comic panels and move them around using your logic skills and your imagination to craft the best outcome. Getting the story 'wrong' is as much part of the experience as getting it 'right', with every rearrangement telling a different, satisfying--and sometimes very comedic--story.

Hand-crafted noir art and animation
From the first frame to the last, the FRAMED collection oozes with stylish, noir, award-winning art and animation. Unique, hand-drawn silhouetted characters, incredibly fluid animations, and beautiful, mysterious settings all bring the FRAMED world to life with a wink of mischievous personality.

Multi-award winning, genre-bending design
FRAMED Collection features a fusion of unique game mechanics and clever narrative puzzles that bend genres and constantly deliver a satisfying experience with every panel arrangement. A winner of multiple game awards, and a finalist of IGF 2015's 'Excellence in Design' Award, Hideo Kojima named FRAMED his Game of the Year in 2014--"without any doubt."

An all-original live jazz soundtrack
Featuring live jazz performances fused with modern themes and funky beats, the soundtracks to FRAMED and FRAMED 2 are as mesmerizing as they are evocative, setting the mood and upping the mystery-laden tension.

It's a bit hilarious that Humble Bundle puts Wizard of Legend on sale for 10% off to celebrate their 500k copies (all platforms) success but then doesn't do the same discount for non-NA regions and claims on twitter that they're not responsible for other markets ....as the global publisher of the game.

Any impressions on Urrnog Urrnlimited? It looks interesting but it's kind of a mess according to what I've read online.

Red's Kingdom looks pretty interesting, I'll keep an eye on it.

What would people recommend out of those?
Volgarr and Detention are both amazing.

Buy MMLC elsewhere as the switch version is supposed to be kind of bad.

Just be warned on Volgarr tho it takes a person of stout intestinal fortitude to be able to deal with the game. It is not for the faint of heart, especially if you try and do the second path.

I have no problems with the Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 on Switch, I also owned it on 3DS. It's my preferred version:

1. Rewinds!!! So awesome! Makes every game more playable and fun
2. Save states anywhere
3. Online leaderboards with replays of each run

I think the biggest criticism is the "small" input lag reported on the Switch version. As I go back to playing it original and playing it on Switch, there's a definite lag, but unless you're playing the game for speedrunning, it's not a big deal and your brain will adjust to it after a few minutes of playing.

Started HoF2 after some strong encouragement from members of this board.... So far, I think it's really really great!
I'm actually loving the combat, and am surprised at just how tough but nuanced it is. I'm fairly certain the card selection game is impossible to follow as some of the cards surely can't be tracked when it reforms in to a single stack? Hopefully I'm wrong on that though as it would essentially just make it another dice gambit. I have no issue with the dice gambit btw, it's just the card selection one suggests you can use your skill to make the right selection.
Load times in and out of combat are quicker than I thought they would be after watching some videos , did this get improved in the update patch?
General atmosphere is brilliant, with wonderful scene setting really making you feel like you are there. All the gameplay mechanics seem to be clear enough to understand which I fully approve of.
So yeah, good first impression. And it plays and looks good docked and undocked. Look forward to playing a bit more this evening.

that was one of those "we noticed a small flaw [I think it was input lag or something?]" = era/internet translator ==> "IT'S A DISASTER!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS" cases
As someone who paid good money for the X collection to have 3/8s of it tarnished by shitty emulation I can testify purely for myself that the high input lag is unacceptable and very much noticable, and makes the switch versions of the og MMLC collection the worst version of it because of it.

Not everyone who has an opinion has to be reduced to fanboy nonsense in order to disagree with you dude.

I've actually played the games and don't really find the idea of dancing around Yellow Devil with 2x input lag an idea of a good time, nor would I in good faith recommend such an experience to anyone else.

Look, I think things like input lag is something that varies from gamer to gamer with respect for their tolerance of it. I've been playing Mega Man games since I was 5 years old, and I've been speed running the series for about a year now.

I notice the lag but I don't find it game breaking and would not discourage someone else from playing. I think if you're just playing casually, this probably isn't going to ruin your experience. And I definitely think having the Rewind feature makes up for the lag in a casual play through for a majority of gamers. If I wanted to record a speed run of any of the games where I wouldn't use a Rewind feature, then I'd play on a different platform.

But I feel like input lag is something that would only discourage a small group of gamers. If its something you're sensitive to, but then yeah, don't buy it.

Can't decide on Dead Cells either. I want to pre-order because its a sale price, but the game looks only ehh to me.

Oh of course, I'm not trying to imply someone doesn't have the right to enjoy it or can't enjoy it. I'm just disagreeing with his notion that the people who don't like the collection do so purely out some idiotic sense of malice towards nintendo some such garbage.

I also stand by my statement that I couldn't in good faith recommend it. Whether it bothers you or not that's fine, but me personally I'm gonna sit here and try and make that judgement call for someone and just tell them I think the input lag is highly detrimental to the gameplay. Again if they still want to buy it that's cool, but I'm not gonna sit here and pretend the issue does not exist or something.

The cards are completely random, there's no way to follow them, so it's another game of chance. The card wheel you can follow, but it stops at various speeds, so that one is also still largely luck when it's crowded with fails.

That's just part of the game. So much of your fate is governed by chance (a recurring theme). You can always boost your odds by supplying yourself with good encounter cards and by doing really well in combat, though. I've always thought it was fair (though definitely very frustrating at times).

Later missions get very, very challenging.

I think we've seen this issue before on this forum/thread with regards to technical issues and people going back and forth encouraging/discouraging others from purchasing a game based on those things, like for example: Overcooked! and it's frame rate issues.

I know this is an opinion forum, but I think when people are asking questions of "Should I buy this?" it's probably more "honest" to just state facts about the game: "It has input lag" or "It has frame rate drops" and let the person asking the question decide for themselves if those things bother them.

I think it causes friction when things are stated in this forum like: "The XXXX issue is TERRIBLE. DO NOT BUY THE GAME." That seems disingenuous to technical issues that some people may not find as offensive as other people. I think a more civil discourse here would be like: "I was bothered by the frame rate issues. I think the input lag is unacceptable". Rather than outright discouraging people to buy or not buy.

... But whatever. I'm a middle school teacher on break from the summer, I don't mean to critique and analyze everyone's writing... I'll go back to work soon, I promise.

I'm not very sensitive to input lag. I recall playing Mega Man 2 on the Wii U VC and there was noticeable lag, but I quickly adjusted to it and managed to beat the game pretty quickly (I'm kind of surprised that most people find MM2 so hard).

That said, I think it's important to tell people the lag is there, since some people are more sensitive to it.

I honestly find the stupid blurry CRT-like filter on the WiiU VC way more offensive than input lag. That's why I prefer the Legacy collection, it at least LOOKS good! haha

I think it's more that guy is just like that. Almost every single post I've seen him make in this thread he's been a jerk to someone. Like that poor dude who just asked a simple question about the Resident Evil game. I mean really, why act like that?

It says to me more that he lacks the ability to parse opinions other than his own without boiling them down to black/white "you're an idiot if you're on the other side of me" thinking. If he disagreed with me, he could have just posted why he did so and we could have had a discussion. Instead he instantly escalated the situation and attacked me over the statement for no real reason. It's just childish.

Oh you're talking about Cosmic Star? Yeah that game is BADASS. It's a freaking steal for $13.50, it's worth double that price. The combat system is excellent. It's unique, challenging, and engaging in every fight. AND there's no random battles! (but there are a lot of fights in tight corridors that you aren't mean to avoid). You heal after every fight, so each encounter is "scripted" knowing the enemies are going to hit hard because they know you have full health. It kind of turns EVERY fight into a mini boss fight.

It's so well done. It's the best low budget Indie game I've ever played. I enjoyed it so much more than Battle Chasers (and I paid $40 for that).

You know, passion in writing is a difficult thing to read on an internet forum. It comes off as antagonist, asshole-ish, or sarcastic. TheMoon is an excellent and helpful poster here. He is passionate about games, as we all are.
