We all have those movies where you see it and pretty much forget what happend shorty after. Typically it's the summer blockbusters like Transformers that put an emphasis over visuals over stories.

But has there ever been a game you played a ton but shorty after you could remember little about it?

I was scrolling through my PS4 games and realized there's a tons of games I've played but can remember pretty much nothing about

-Destiny

There's a darkness taking over the universe and there's a big ball called the Traveler and as a guardian you stop it by uh...defeating the darkness or something?

-Assassin's Creed

All of them. It's actually crazy how much I love the series and buy each one yet can barely remember what happens. At a certain point in the story there's too many names that start getting thrown around and I lose track. At the end I pretty much have no idea what I just spent the whole game doing.

-Borderlands 2

Played the game at least 5 times all the way through. Could not tell you anything about it other than Handsome Jack, a giant bird, and an AI girl. It's weird that people praise Handsome Jack as one of the best villains but I can barely recall what he did for the whole game.

So do any of y'all have games like this where you completed/put a lot of time into yet the story never stuck with you for whatever reason?

Binding of Isaac. I've poured tons of time into it and haven't played now in maybe a year. I'd have to relearn everything all over if I ever pick it up again.

I platinumed Far Cry 4 and enjoyed it, but was drawing a complete blank when a friend said that you had to clear big areas of the map just like in Far Cry 5. I don't remember that at all. I remember the general plot, but the map and quests, and how you approach missions is a complete mystery to me for some reason.

I explored the entire map, I did all the shrine, I did all the beast, I got all the memory and I got the Master Sword.

And yet I remember nothing of the game.

Fire Emblem Fates.

Got in 40 hours on each route, 120 hours total, yet everything about the game to me just feels like a blur. I think this has to do that nothing really stood out to me within the game outside of the actual gameplay. It was this game that made me more aware of how important the presentation quality of a game is.

I get the feeling there's going to be a lot of open world games mentioned in this thread, given these responses and my own experience with them (except I've never really been captivated by an open world game long enough to play many hours).

There was one summer vacation where I played through basically every SNES RPG in rapid succession, as quickly as possible. There were some I beat in 2-3 days, but I still might have had 20-30 hours in them. I, uh, didn't sleep much.

But yeah, it's surprising I remember as much as I do about them, but a few like Lufia 2 are just a blur with 1 or 2 scenes that stuck out.

I'd say something like ARMS? I've got a good amount of time on that, I don't actually remember much of it. A shame, the aesthetic and premise were interesting.

You remember enough to keep bringing it up in every thread any chance you get

Assassin's Creed. I beat the first 3 or 4 games, and I can hardly remember anything about the plot going on in the past, and NOTHING about what the heck was going on present-day. In fact, I don't remember much about the mechanics either. Did one of them have a city-building side game? IDK.

Shadow of Memories.
I played through to get every single ending, but my memory is super fuzzy on what actually happened.

God of War (2018): Got to the ending in like 35-40ish hours, but literally only remember the stranger fight.

Kingdom Hearts II: I put a lot of time into this game back in the day but the only sequences I remember is the ridiculously long tutorial opening and the 1000 heartless battle.

I'm shocked to hear Breath of the WIld being mentioned. I felt that game was built to be memorable. I could find the locations of most of the major landmarks like Twin Peaks by just scaling high enough and looking around. Pathways between regions are also ingrained in my mind.

I play many games(especially at a fast pace as I go through a backlog), and because of that I usually forget much of a game if whatever aspect is average or not memorable for whatever reason.

Same here.
I love this franchise, I spend 300-500 hours on each game but... For example for MHG I forgot everything about good armor sets/charms, everything about hunter styles, everything about prowlers and what bonuses to search on cats... I'll feel like a noob on MHGU next month...

Breath of the Wild

I had to have played it for 60 hours but put a gun to my head and I still couldn't name a single thing that happened outside of the Beasts and getting the Master Sword.

Breath of Fire III. I know I played through it twice, but I'll be damned if I can remember more than just little bits here and there.

Omg this. Origins is the first one since probably 2 (if even) when I could tell who was who.

Unity was the worst in that regard. La Freniere! De la Serie! Germain! Bellec! De Molay! God know who the fuck are those people hahah

EDIT : Even though i love the series, assassins creed revelations is an absolute enigma. Have 0 idea what the main story is or was

Gran Turismo 1 , 2, and 3 - I've probably finally forgotten all the track names, and driving lines.

Daggerfall ... i cannot really remember anything clear about its story, and my most vivid recollection is game breaking generation of dungeons that wouldn't let me leave some of them (effing random generation, i despise it, i don't want each playthrough to be unique, i want engaging level design damnit ).

Global Agenda, the MMO. I never play MMOs, but when I was younger and Global Agenda was first out, I tried really hard to get into it. I just can't remember shit.

The Witcher 3. 200 hours worth of gametime, played through the game twice, 100% completed it and I barely remember anything aside from some key story beats.

Both DLC packs didn't resonate with me and I blame that on burnout, even now I can't really get into them so I just gave up. Maybe an eventual remaster on the Switch 2 :P

Amazing game though, wish I could do it all again.

Fallout 3. I can remember New Vegas pretty well, but I enjoyed 3 more. However, I barely remember any of it except Megaton, Mr Crowley and when you go to Deathclaw town. So I really want to re-play it and experience it again.

I'm a huge zelda fan, and have finished all mainline ones except skyward sword, and I couldn't recount too much of the plot of twilight princess. I know the general beats, and remember scenes, but man that game was.. lacking in charm, I would say

hitman 2016 is a masterpiece and I strongly recommend you give it a try, from someone who also loved blood money once upon a time

Fire Emblem Awakening, Starcraft, and Final Fantasy 8 come to mind immediately. No idea what any of those games are about.

The only game I can think of is ESWAT for the Sega Genesis. It was one of a handful of games I had for that system as a kid and the only thing I remember is that -- I think? -- you fight an alternate color version of yourself at the end. Or something.

I really don't play enough games to have trouble remembering any.

Yes! I was totally thinking of Unity as the biggest problem. I can't tell you a single charecter in Unity other than Arno and Rose(?). I can't even tell you why I forget all of them so quickly. Maybe I don't have the right history context but stuff just happens and they never really establish any of the charecters.

Tales of Graces F.

Was watching a youtube video where that game came up and and clips from the game's story were running.

I did not recall a single thing. The game wasn't *that* bad.

i wonder how much of the co-op stuff was originally meant for the story and then cut away, because some of those standalone missions do a better job of establishing characters the main story just breezes right past and assume you know from history

That's the main one for me, I have something like 95 achievements in it(which isn't a ton given how many there are but the most time I've put into the genre) and unlocked a lot of stuff but I go back to it now and I can't remember any of the item interactions for the life of me. Do remember the basics of progression at least.
