Backlight mod your gba or, if you have the money for it, get a premodded one. It's the best way to play gba games
Yeah went with this, just ordered this one:

I plan to mod my current GBAs at some point though, but I looked at them more and like... They actually need a lot of work done to them! E.g. Cracks in the case, power switch-related issues ("Why did my game just restart?"), etc. I do want to make one modeled after my zard oc at some point though. Lol

I went with this over a ds lite because I've been playing a couple gbc games lately and yeeeeaaaahhhh I want that backwards compatibility :3

Thanks for the advice guys! <3

Well, i did the easiest mod to mine (backlit screen and that's it) it's hard but rewarding. You chose wisely buying a pre-modded one in any case :)

Let me know how you end up liking your modded GBA, OP. I've been thinking about ordering one of those for a very long time so I can play the Golden Suns and original Rhythm Heaven.

I really prefer the buttons on the SP, and the AGS-101 has a very nice screen.
Also, for GBA games the non-micro GBAs display them a bit bigger than the DS does. Not a big deal I guess but it's an appreciable difference when doing grindy Pokemon shit for hours.

More importantly though, the GBA has things like backwards compatibility and a link cable port. The latter in particular is huge for me; the idea of transferring stuff between XD and Emerald/FR without needing a flashlight (the lighting in the room with the region unlocked Wii [my XD is JPN] is garbage) was too tempting to resist tbh.

Oh, I still need to beat the Golden Suns! I got a good ways into Lost Ages over a decade ago iirc, but i stopped playing because all I had at the time was an old GBA and the one chair with good enough lighting to play comfortably was thrown out so I gave up shortly after that. I think I'll try those again when this baby comes in the mail!

But yeah I'll definitely tell you how I like it. :3

I was just looking up prices for the disc, and they're still obscene. Although I will swear up and down by my Micro, still my favorite way to play GBA games.

Man you made me think the discs were going for hundreds. You can get a GB Player and disc for like $50 to $80 on eBay. That doesn't seem that obscene.

Where are you seeing both for less than 80? I'm finding the disc for like 60-80, just for the disc I think that's insane.

EDIT: Nevermind, I should have looked further through the search results. Not as bad as I originally thought, but still too much for me to invest in.

Ya, if you look at the completed, I've seen a disc go for $30 and a whole set go for $45. That's not to say some aren't in the $80s for a set, but there seems plenty of options out there to be had for less.

Got it in the mail! Had to open it up and sand down a ridge to fix some issues - mainly screen distortion upon pressing the dpad or battery pack - but now it's great and pretty. Do recommend! Very comfy and looks good <3

Playing it on the DS and especially 3DS is worse because of how unergonomic and heavy those systems are.
