Graceful Explosion Machine is phenomenal.

I didn't think much of the way it looked and didn't know much about it until people talked about how good it was in these eshop threads. They were right.

I keep hearing about it but I'm still not convinced. I'm worried about the repetitiveness. I'm not that into score-attack games but I loved maintaining my combo meter in RE5 Mercenaries for instance.

I'm really looking forward to Wargroove too.

Regarding Nintendo sizzle reels, Huntdown was featured a long time ago too and caught my eye, haven't heard anything for a while about that one.

That looks awesome. Nails that 16bit arcade vibe. Similarly I'd love to see tower 57 ported as well.

They definitely seem to have learned some things since the Wii U.

It feels to me like the importance of indies or other smaller games has really blown up as compared to big budget, AAA games in the last generation or two. If you're judging just from non first party AAA titles, the Switch is still a bit underwhelming when compared to the other two consoles; it's not like we're getting a ton of straight ports of the big titles. But the novelty of portable play makes rebuying and playing the smaller games more attractive than, say, the WiiU, where there was little point in duplicating a purchase.

I completed Bomb Chicken yesterday. It turned out to be more of a puzzle game than I expected, but I still enjoyed it for the simplicity of the gameplay. Some levels were a bit unfocused and I wish it had more boss fights, which were the most enjoyable part of the game. It probably took something like four hours to get a 100% completion so not too much, but it was refreshing to play something short after being intense with Hollow Knight for a long while.

Also, had to buy Puyo Puyo Tetris from the Europe summer sale. Turns out I can still play Tetris and still cannot play Puyo Puyo.

Nintendo Era, don't sleep on 'ARCADE ARCHIVES: Omega Fighter'.

It's a shmup coming from the future, doing things that none of its contemporaries where doing back in 1989.

It predated the modern scoring systems, with a sophisticated chain and combo system, and crazy ideas like a bonus multiplier in which your score will depend on how close you destroy the enemy ships.

With its main focus in the scoring system and by using slow enemy bullets, it completely changed the paradigm in the genre, anticipating all the concepts behind the bullet hell genre.

It also predates the type of narrative used in the Siter Skain shmups, such as 'Reflex'. In which a story is told without words by using the video game mechanics. Depending in if you destroy the secondary objects in each mission, this will change the possible endings.

And like in 'Uridium', all the game is about destroying a fucking gigantic battleship and its different parts, with an incredible sense of scope and grandiloquence.

This Hamster port is bananas, because they have fixed inaccurate patterns of the enemies that still persist in the Mame version.

Being not only the first console port of the game (of course, it's also available in the Arcade Archives series for PS4), but the first time that the game has been faithfully emulated.

Together with 'Star Force' and 'Ikaruga', the holy trinity of shmups in Switch.

Detention has fans here, aye? I see it's got a good discount at the moment and am expecting something of an unsettling adventure/visual novel thing - does that sound about right?

I swear you all are killing me. Every time I drop my head in here another game you all are discussing catches my interest. Watching a review of Crossing Souls and it looks awesome, never heard of it till this thread. I was already going to preorder Dead Cells today but I might get this and MAYBE Pool Panic as well lol.

There's a 10% off on US eShop cards at Newegg.

I've been waiting for a deal since my credit has been getting low and I missed the last eBay 15% deal.

I'll echo the praise for Graceful Explosion Machine. Nothing quite like maintaining a chain combo over the course of an entire level and seeking out those S-ranks. Controls, graphics, and sound design are all excellent. One of my early Switch favorites.

Number of years before folder implementation:

PS4: 3
PS Vita: 1.5
3DS: 1
Wii U: 2

I guess folders are hard? They're certainly not a priority, it seems. I wonder what makes them so difficult to have implemented from the start?

I'm dying for folders. It sucks going from a system that has them to one that doesn't. I owned a PS4 from day 1. Three god damn years i had to wait for folders.

List of Features I want Nintendo to hurry the fuck up on:
Folders/Pins
Themes/Wallpaper (or at least more basic colors)
Useful Friend List features (there are NONE)

It's crazy going from 3DS to Switch when it comes to OS features and communication apps.

List of stuff I miss from 3DS:
Swapnote (original))
Miiverse
Streetpass
MiiPlaza
System Coins
Folders
Web Browser
Nintendo Video
Themes
Badge Arcade stickers
Stylus
3D :(

Stuff that was cool even if I didn't use it:
3D Camera
AR games
Sound player

How cool would it be if we got hi-res badge arcade stickers that could be rotated, resized and stuck anywhere on the background behind the UI?

Don't forget the essential Activity Log! I still miss it so much. :'(

What!!! This is like the first time they've offered awesome free games!!

All of these games are worth your gold points, people! I'm stunned! It's basically $1, amazing deal.

BTW, Severed is supppsed to be cross-buy on Wii U so I wonder if this will get you both versions.

Best selection they've offered by far. After redeeming Severed on 3DS, the Wii U version is indeed showing up as a free download for me so the cross-buy incentive is still in effect.

Ooooohh boy, I've been waiting for official confirmation on this:

https://gematsu.com/2018/07/taiko-no-tatsujin-drum-n-fun-coming-west-on-november-2

First localized Taiko game in 14 years, people! Show your support to show Namco there's a market for this series in the west!

As for me, this'll be the first one I buy. About time Namco took another crack at it outside Japan. Much different market than 2004 so I really think it'll do well over here. Gotta advertise the crap out of those Nintendo tie-ins.

I hope they fix the motion controls. It was trash in the JPN demo, like they didn't register half the time, like super terrible Wii motion controls.

Also if they include Fireworks Festival minigame, it will be GOTY.

I'm about to bite the bullet on another game *sigh*...

Ok, so I'm thinking about embarking on The Banner Saga on Switch. I have Banner Saga 2 on XBO (Games with Gold GOTM) already, but wanted to play the entire thing wherever I am, so Switch is definitely the choice of the moment. But I'm still dubious of the ports... anyone here tried it and can chime in with her/his impressions? They'd be greatly appreciated. :)

you know this is one of those "import your decisions/saves into the sequel" series, right? or is that what you meant there? playing all of them on Switch despite owning TBS2 on XBO?

Looks to be an Action RPG & a port of a mobile game called Breakers: Dawn of Heroes.

Also, if you have some My Nintendo gold coins, there's 4 new rewards for Nindies:

- Runbow Pocket (New 3DS) - 110 Gold Coins
- Noitu Love: Devolution (3DS) - 80 Gold Coins
- Severed (3DS) - 110 Gold Coins
- Freedom Planet (Wii U) - 110 Gold Coins

How does the 3DS version of Noitu Love hold up? I'm tempted, but I also kind of wanted to get it on Wii U.
3DS version of Devolution is great.

Noitu on 3DS is awesome, it feels like a perfect fit for the platform.

revelations any good?
I probably wouldn't buy it over Rev 2, personally.

Ghost ship in raid mode is pretty unique , but I'm not sure it's worth burning up the 20-40 hours it's gonna take you to get there over playing the better overall package in Rev 2. Overall it's probably the weakest 3D RE just above 6.

Personally I'd rather even play 6 over Rev1 tho as 6's gameplay is sooooo much better and Mercs mode alone will give you a ton of fun.

Exactly, that's what I meant. If the Switch ports are quality (nice res, good performance) I'm willing to spend the extra money on them. If not, I'll (begrudgingly) play 'em on XBO.

If you love building and maintaining combo meters, you definitely need to get Graceful Explosion Machine, like, yesterday. The whole game is built on building up your combos for insanely high multipliers, and the only way to do that is by constantly switching up your weapons and not falling into a rut. And the game doesn't get repetitive because it gradually introduces new enemies and environmental hazards, so you need to vary your play style to cope. The game does a damn good job of keeping you on your toes at all times.

Switch Gang!!!

Happy to be a part of the team finally!

So I bought RER2 and that's downloading now. I had my eye on Gonner before and it's at a good price. Anybody have any impressions on that?

I can't wait for the August EShop thread. Switch has been bustin out the games nonstop lately. Gotta do serious catch up.

Gonner? So you're into indies, right? Welcome to this weird kind of hell where there are way more great indie titles then you'll ever have the time to play ^_^

This thread only makes the problem worse, because you'll get lots of great recommendations about under the radar games.

I love this place.

Having just finished it, it's a bit short and doesn't reach its full potential with the concept as several reviews mentionned. It's a bit of a shame, as the idea could probably have been used better. Relying on lasers and such as obstacles is a bit too easy. The single screen puzzles make the solution a bit too obvious and guide as well. Rarely do you solve anything by thinking outside the box and "breaking" the game. The Chinese shadows art-style has also been done to death. More joy and sillyness would have been prefered given the game main mechanic. A squishy blob as a main character is also not very creative. A deformable pig, sumo or whatever would have been more surprising.

Hmm, I understand what you get at, but single screen puzzles are basically how this genre works. Once you get away from that the game either gets easier to break (because it is harder to design properly) or becomes too obtuse for the player, because you can never be sure how far you need to backtrack to solve a puzzle. 3d games like Portal and The Talos Principle also limit their puzzles similarly. I guess what they could have done is add something like the stars from The Talos Principle, which often require you to think outside the box and break puzzles/try to take items outside of puzzles. Those were great and some of the best fun I had in a puzzle game in recent years.

Disgaea 5 Complete is $39.99 in the US eShop. Is this news? I've had this game on my wish list forever but hadn't bought it yet due to backlog. Now I'm seriously tempted (despite my backlog).

Thanks! I used to lurk just to stay in the know so I'm happy to finally post and be involved now!

Yeah, I love Indies! Really nice games to play through. They really feel right on a Switch.

Unfortunately I'll lose the trophies and have to deal with higher price but it sounds worth it just to be able to bring them everywhere. I'll wait for sales.

I see what y'all saying about how sucky the EShop is... Wow if you're game isn't featured, it's essentially buried. I tried searching for 'enter the gungeon' And it didn't even pull up
