As a shareholder, I voted for this... believe it's the smart move, and right direction for the company. If Fox is selling, Disney should be buying.

When I first heard about Disney's plans to have their own streaming service, I chuckled. But man.. they are not fucking around when it comes to content acquisition

Please don't fuck up Doctor Doom.

Not only the best villain in Marvel, the best villain of all time for everything that ever was and will ever be.

The deal *could* still close earlier than next spring. After all, the main regulatory hurdle was cleared much earlier than was initially expected.

But first half of next year is probably about right, not that I'm any sort of expert on such things.

I remember years ago, I was at Disneyland and went into the Tomorrowland pavilion to see what kind of stuff they had. It was basically a tech showcase walkthrough where you could see all the neat new gizmos that were being developed for mass consumers (smart doorbells, etc.) and they had this whole thing at the beginning where they advertised how awesome they were, and what great programming their channel, ABC, provided to us.

They asked our group for an example of what great shows they had.

A guy in the back shouted "IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA."

What I wouldn't pay to see his face now.

People just need to accept the fact that Fox was going to sell.

The 2 options were either Disney or Comcast.

Just to repeat what's been said in every single one of these threads (not singling you out, just posting for everyone passing by):

Fox was going to sell no matter what. Whether its Disney or Comcast, a huge existing corporation was going to buy them. Let folks enjoy the silver lining in this which is better media and more care for some of the franchises that Fox exclusively had access to. This also has a positive effects on the comic books side of things.

I feel like no matter how many times this gets posted, some posters just stick their fingers in their ears and close their eyes.

Before they had a deep library, now they will probably have the best. If they properly leverage all of it.

Now we'll finally get some good X-men films. I hope they leave every bit of the Fox-Marvel trash out of the MCU.

Will Darwin be finally done justice?

Or will he just be cast aside and forgotten?

Here's some good reading if anyone wants to better understand the judicial rulings on monopolies. Even in the current year, the highest joint Disney-Fox market share, (approximately 46% at the moment, though this will go down since Disney's biggest hits were already released for the year, while other studios have some strong tent poles on the way) the combined market share on film doesn't reach the 50% threshold to be viewed by precedent as a monopoly. Further, this excludes the idea that new competitors are popping up in the form of Amazon and Netflix. They certainly have a lot of power, but not a monopoly. I personally get nervous for a judge to rule the DOJ agreement, but based on the precedent linked above it's hard to suggest how they would stop Disney from acquiring the Fox assets.

This is probably my third favorite x men film, I don't understand what "shit" they pulled with this. They pulled shit with X-3, Origins and to a degree with apocalypse.

Pretty much. It'll be interesting to see how well their infrastructre will be and what kind of pricing model they are aiming for; this could be a potential streaming juggernaut from the get-go if they play their cards right

This deal could be bad for those who are into collecting physical media: Disney is infamous for refusing to license out most of their catalog titles to boutique labels. Fox and Comcast-owned Universal are much better in that regard. I hope this merger will not affect Fox's licensing policy.

Disney has been planning this for a long time. They've invested a ton in bamtech.

So Namor, Spider-Man, Hulk and She Hulk are the only characters Marvel don't own the movie rights to

It will. Matter of fact if you wanna take advantage of the DVD/BR to digital option from Vudu for Fox movies, you better do it soonish.
