It sounds like he hesitated since it's a question he's surely not authorized to confirm or deny. The IGN guy continued to talk, asking if they had to alter the story to fit anyone in from SC4/5, which he then immediately said no to. You can look at that as him saying no because we got Talim despite age issues, or Zasa despite the fact he's a SC3 character, and the addition of Groh and Geralt who obviously weren't in the SC1 story.

But they've already shown a timeline that stretches through SC1-SC4. They don't have to include all characters (and probably won't), but they don't need to change anything for Talim if her story matches take place during SC2 or after.

Soul Calibur 2-4 take place at basically the same time (same year at least), but as far as we know the events of the story are almost entirely SC1-related, with only small bits from SC2 and SC3. We have nothing so far that indicates there's anything from SC4 (story-wise).

It also wasn't just for Talim. They added Groh and Geralt to the SC1 story. Zasa also has SC1 events now, and where we assume Talim is listed on the timeline, she has events in 1583 when she would have been 7 years old.

I don't think anyone is denying that there will be 2P costumes.

The question is will they be available by default on the character select screen without grinding for loot in Single Player/Online Modes and then accessorizing those 2P items to a costume slot for the character in the CAS mode like in Tekken Tag 2 & Tekken 7. So far, all signs point a repeat of Tekken.
Tekken's always handled that differently than SC though. So this assumption doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I'm honestly lost at what you're referring to. How was Tekken and SC different from one another when it came to 1P and 2P outfits? Ever since 1994 characters from Tekken, Soul Calibur, and VF had 2 (or more) default outfits that would display differently during the mirror match. With TTT2 (and all future Tekkens after) Namco scrapped that and replaced it with the SF style color palate swap for mirror matches. Those previous 2P outfits were now locked behind a grind. And come today for the first time ever, Soul Calibur has also brought in the color palate swap for mirror matches just like how it was introduced in TTT2. I'm just showcasing a pattern that is identical to both series made by the same developer.

I'm not ruling out that 2P outfits won't be locked behind a grind and playable by default in the final release but I won't deny the signs along with the company history of always giving Soul Calibur a lower budget than Tekken.

For the serious players in this thread:

I played the shit out of SC IV. It's the only game I have a 1000/1000 gamerscore for. I was ranked like 640 (doesn't sound like much but there were about 200K ranked players) and sparred all the time with the top 10 ranked players online. I preferred player match lobbies because I loved to spar and find unorthodox approaches to offense, but I was competitive.

I've never owned a fight stick in my entire life (I don't even know if that's what you call them) but I think I'd like to try learning to play with one for SC VI since I enjoy fighting games generally.

Is there a consensus right now on what the best entry-level / affordable stick is? I'll be playing on One X, but it'd be nice to have a stick I can use on other platforms as well, if possible. Is there like a no-brainer "this is definitely the one to buy right now" stick for around $100-150?

I might have played you one time if you were on Xbox 360! Loved SC IV on Xbox 360 1000/1000 it and played Sophitia on Pad because sticks were too expensive for me back then even though I was a hardcore SF stick player. And actually, the game felt ok on pad, just map the two button moves to trigger and you were set.
Unfortunately, when you grab a stick it will have to be One X/PC OR PS4/PC unless you get an adapter or mod it.
With Mad Catz out the way (there are sales on old TES+ sticks I've seen on NewEgg) I can recommend Hori RAP or Razer Pantera (i think that's what it's called). Hori is cheaper and makes their own buttons/lever and Panterra is a little more expensive but are Sanwa buttons (easy to depress/Gold Standard buttons)

Newegg has been having sales on mad catz stock. EVO is next week, and there will undoubtedly be sales on all kinds of sticks. I'd personally say avoid any madcatz sticks and look at Razer (the panthera), Qanba (Obsidian) or Hori (any in the HRAP series). You'll definitely be able to find something within your price range.

My Gamertag is Lodon (pronounced low-done), and if you played a lot online, then I'm confident our paths crossed. I had like 1400 hours in the game. Add me as a friend and we'll spar when the game launches. I had a chance to play at a preview event a couple of months ago and I love VI way more than I loved V. I'm really excited about this one!

Thanks to you both for the recommendations. The newer Razer stick looks pretty dang expensive, and the affordable HORI stick looks pretty small. I figure I'll probably want a full-size stick. I see a handful of Qanba sticks on Newegg but for some reason they're all for PS4 / PS3 / PC. What's up with that?

Right in your range, and is a full-size stick. Razer sticks go on sale semi frequently for 50% off.

I missed the part about XB1. Qanba only makes stick on PS4/PC for current gen stuff.

My bad.

If you've never played with a stick at arcades or at home, you should try one before you take the plunge. And if you do get one, remember that it'll take time for muscle memory to kick in.

As for which one to get, i've never had a problem with Mad Catz and Hori. Just get a stick that's moddable, that way you can replace parts easily if you ever need to.

Yep, stream was one of the best showcases of the game so far. Evo should be good as well since so many people have had a decent amount of time with the game now.

Hopefully the stream schedule will show times for side events like the SC6 tournament.

Look for this stick...the stock buttons are great so no need to mod unless you're pro. All of my Madcatz sticks from last gen had issues and eventually broke but HRAP is great quality and well worth the price. $150 is an investment but not $299 levels.

Don't they still have a few characters to announce? The character select screen still has a bunch of slots left.
