So I've been flailing around trying to figure out how to play the game (I had about 5 hours on the old version) and I guess a refiner was supposed to appear in my inventory but never did? Am I just totally screwed or is there a way to make this thing?
No crouch but sitting down is in the gesture part of the quick menu, X key or d-pad down.
Seens its a bug that is fixed on the recent patch on PC, its rolling out to consoles soon.
Also, I got a supreme heat protection for my suit. I can safely stroll around heat death planets in the middle of a storm and the protection wont even dent. This game is the best fucking thing ever again. Played 200 hours of this shit and can easilly see another 300.
I tried exiting out and restarting and now it's showing in my formation where it should be.

This planet was pretty brutal. Luckily my very next one is the first I've landed on with an environment that seems to always be between 18 and 24 degrees celsius and has yet to produce a storm or toxic event. Basically, easy to just roam around and farm copper on!

I would be fine with rotating planets even if we never get orbits and physical stars. I think the UI issues are solvable especially with an autopilot mode. The biggest reason I want rotations is not nerding out on space stuff (even though I do), but because now that people are settling more into bases, the fact that planets and moons never move in the sky is a real immersion breaker. Imagine you have a moon base and then you look out the window and the massive parent planet rises above the horizon. Those are the kinds of "oh wow" moments that planet rotation would bring.

How so? My first and only game is on survival and I've fallen in love with it. Space is hard, man!
Very single threaded. CPU6 is maxed on my i7, disabling it just shifts it to another thread. I don't think your i5 will be much more of a handicap here. What resolution though? At 1440p max settings you'll be well above 60fps with occasional hitching. It runs like a dream compared to PS4 Pro at any rate (I have both).
So when you die, you lose all your materials? Is there a way to store stuff so you don't lose it when you die?

for some, like me, it was always a great game, that got better and better with each update. But the general consensus now is that the game is in a great place right now
You can build storage facilities. Also, you can get your stuff back by going to where you died and picking it up.
Playing and loving this on Cbox One X. This is the version of the game I have been waiting 2 years for.
One question - is there an easy way to earn credits in the beginning?? I've been mining asteroids for gold/silver but it's really slow and I haven't seen anything else so far that looks lucrative. I want a new ship but unless I find a way to make some cash that isn't happening anytime soon and I really need the space!

All tech upgrades got reset. But you'll come across scanner/visor upgrades that give you crazy 6000-9000% bonus when scanning. Stack them, and you'll get 277K units for scanning a big ass animal
How do you build storage facilities? I have a small box under the storage tab but I can't interact with it when I build it.
Started the game for the first time since the update. Wtf is wrong with the fanspeed of the PS4 Pro?! I have never heard my console so loud. It is horrible and the game is completely unenjoyable like that. My wife came in to the living room asking me why I was vacuuming at 9pm....
update of my PS4Pro crashing issues: i deleted my save that crashed every 2 minutes because there was no way to do anything. restarted the game in offline mode-i am now on my third planet without any crashes so far. knocking on wood..
i have a strong suspicion that the crashes are related to the online function. the save that crashed every 2 minutes was started in online mode and in fact there was a player coming to my planet, waving at me and flying away.
it could be that when you save in the moment where another player comes to you the save is somehow "shared" in the session between the two meeting people and when you play further without this visitor the save gets corrupted and crashes all the time. there are people reporting exactly that, they were playing with their friends and somehow when they are alone they can´t play the game for 2minutes without crashes.
TL DR: to avoid crashing issues on PS4/Pro, start a new game and put off "online mode" in the settings before...check if it works now. maybe we have some kind of solution here.

turn off supersampling and boost mode in the PS4 settings and force the game to output at 1080p (also in the PS4 menu)
So I played this game at launch and while I didn't hate, I just kinda ran out of interest for it after a few hours. Have kept an eye on the updates they've done the past two years and with NEXT, decided it'd be a good time to give it a second chance, especially since some of my friends still have it.
Came in yesterday and played some coop with a buddy of mine and it was a blast. Best moment had to be when we found one of those abandoned outposts on a planet (a very nice, tropical-ish planet). He went in to look around while I stayed outside. I saw some things called "whispering eggs" and figured well of course I should shoot this, so I did.
Some fucking hell bug biological horror mother fuckers came swarming at us. I yelled at him to get out of the outpost, we both run back to our ships freaking out about the shit. Turns out you can strafe the bastards, so we did that. He went back down, thinking it was clear, but some more popped out of the ground to attack him, and he was out of stuff to charge his launch thrusters, so he ended up stuck on the ground until the swarm subsided.
It was fucking great.

HOLY SHIIIITFound my first abandoned space station. They have the old pre-Next layout and have creepy, red lighting. It definitely resembled the abandoned building look. The trade terminal and terminus still worked.
So has this update brought any serious performance improvements to the Pro version? This game turned my Pro into a jet and would occasionally chug way more than it had any business doing. With all the visual changes I'm curious if it helps, hinders or doesn't really change anything in terms of how it runs.
No. You can warp the freighter from its bridge or summon it but no actual flight control
Not really. Uncapped is friggin unstable in planets, had to cap it to 30.
I would love this game to have more enemies, i.e. going into the infected bases would spawn a swarm without you having to shoot the eggs. The biggest threats are the environments and the Sentinels, but I think it could use more.
Look for a crashed freighter and open all the containers. I got an item worth 2 million units. Alternatively if you get nav data look for ancient ruins. You can find treasure chest worth a lot of money.

If I've got my own save file/character (started recently) and then click on the "join players" thing and join his game and play with them, from my understanding if I join his new game I'll show up with my ship somewhere in the system he is in? And what would happen when we're done? If I load up my single player game would I be where I was before I joined him or am I now stuck in his system?

That actually might've been me? I was testing to see if permadeath still applied when you're in a random other person's game, so I flew up as high as I could and fell to my death.
ANSWER: It still applies.
Still a question: When you join a random game as a Permadeath character does it only connect to other Permadeath games?
