It's in their best interest to have a closed system, otherwise why buy more than one?
No doubt it will be proprietary and a closed system, but people are going to try.
Also the whole "You could build your own AND for cheaper!" was bothering me so I decided to look around for something exactly how Arcade1Up advertise and I found an EXACT alternative.
Already sold out,
https://www.recroommasters.com/19-X...spberry-Pi-and-PC-p/rm-xt-alpha-emulation.htm is also 3/4 a size of a normal arcade cabinet and nearly match the dimensions of the arcade1up machines.
vs
For that recroommasters cab you get
+Bigger LCD as it fits up to a 19"
+More and better buttons confirmed Suzo Happ connects to USB Pi Controller, not sure if it works on PC, but I think it does
+Sticks tilted downward, which is how I remember them
+Customization, as you can connect via HDMI as you supply your own monitor.
-More expensive $350 + $100 (S/H to NV for me, company based out of GA), Pi is +$50, monitor is +$80 = ~$600
-Monitor is not flush and looks weird with a monitor sitting on the cab.
-No authentic Arcade Stickers (I never realize I wanted the authentic SF2 Arcade stickers until I saw this model lol)
-Spend time tinkering with RetroPi and Pi
