Yep I and a friend definitely laughed exactly because of that. Enjoyed the hell out of that fight.

Really fun movie, I've enjoyed the last few MI movies way more than the recent James Bond additions (which makes me sad because I love Bond and love Craig as Bond)

Craig really looked miserable in the recent Bond movies. It's like they just don't simply allow Bond to have fun anymore, he must be all miserable and dark and edgy and miserable and................ ugh. I mean contrast that to Hunt, I mean it's clear to me how Tom Cruise seems to have great fun portraying Hunt and it shows in the movie, unlike Craig.

So a brief history on my experience with this franchise:

The first movie came out the year before I was born, and yet I don't think I watched it until around 03. I found my dad's VHS tape of it and promptly watched it a million times. I didn't understand a lick of it, but I adored it. I later found out there was a second one, had my mom rent it from Blockbuster, and kind of hated it (I rewatched it for the first time in over ten years, it's a masterpiece of shlock).

Smash cut to 2006, I see a commerical for the next one, my mom takes me to it, and I adored it as much as the first. Weirdly enough for the next two films after this, I wasn't excited for them. The fourth one seemed like it was going to be a big dumb action flick on par with the second. I loved it. I thought the fifth one was going to prove that the series was washed up. I love it as much as the original.

Needless to say, I'm done doubting this series. My favorite action series from my childhood is as good as it has ever been, and I cant say that for any other film series. At age 21, I am as excited for Mission: Impossible as I was age 9. That is an accomplishment.

I kinda want to see this in theatres because the ratings are that good. I've seen a few movies once, but I don't remember much of the story. Is there a major overarching story that I need to check out, or can I just watch this one as a self-confined action flick and then watch the rest later? Am I spoiling some major things by doing so?

Oh and I saw a TV spot earlier which I think may have spoiled part of the movie ffs
Henry Cavill says "I'm in" and it seems to imply he turns allegiance and helps Ethan out
. Hmmm.

Personally, I don't think you can get spoiled for this. The plot and story aren't anything to write home about; there are a lot of classic tropes and cliches and the film uses them to the max. It's really the execution of the action that makes it for me. In terms of characters, I prefer the last one, character arcs are a bit more muddled in this one.

Is there a thread for this? Just got out of IMAX and it was dope. Great fights and Chase scenes. Plot was ok, but kept moving.

Just saw it. Solid 8/10 for me. It's probably the best of the series. The action is superbly edited/shot and though the plot is comically convoluted it at least seems more self-aware of this fact than the previous films. Henry Cavill was great. A few things I didn't like
the cheesy nightmare sequences and the forced romance between Ethan and Ilsa. I never got any vibe of that in Rogue Nation and Luther saying "Ethan ever only cared about two women" felt so forced. Glad they seemed to have closed Michelle Monaghan's plot and actually gave her something to do

Also did I read this wrong or
Is Vanessa Kirby's character the daughter of Max/Vanessa Redgrave from the first film? Seemed like they introduced this then never followed up on it

Regarding Ilsa and Ethan, in Rogue Nation, Ilsa straight up pleads with Ethan near the end of the movie for them to run away together rather than go down the rabbit hole in fighting the Syndicate...I don't think it came out of nowhere in this film.

As someone who hasn't seen or read about the film yet, by the end is Cavill set up to possibly take the franchise over from Cruise the same way Renner was intended to?

If you have time you should at least watch Rogue Nation again since this is a direct sequel to that. I plan on rewatching that to get refreshed for this one.

Yeah that part always felt a bit shoehorned in RN so I figured she was just saying "we're both rogues, let's flee together, maybe bang occasionally and perhaps we'll go our separate ways down the line". I certainly didn't take it as a sincere romantic declaration

I actually ordered the collection off Amazon with all 5 movies on Blu-Ray. Movie's out in Italy next week I think, should have 'em watched pretty soon. I'm sure I watched Rogue Nation when it came to pay TV a few years back, but besides some action setpieces I remember fuckall, so a rewatch is definitely necessary.

Saw this last night! Really enjoyed it, the action is insanely good and brilliantly shot. Long, stable wide shots instead of the usual quick cut bullshittery that's found it's way into a lot of modern action films.

Couple of spoilery things

I loved the relatively sparse use of music during the first half of the film. The quiet HALO jump and bathroom scenes, then the contrast of the super tense build up in Paris was fantastic.

Honestly I could have used an extra twist or two. The plot was surprisingly straight forward and obvious, which is weird because I keep seeing reviews calling the writing smart.

Watched it today. It was fantastic. Best action in MI yet. I still think the first MI is my favorite but that's mostly due to nostalgia.

Best music moment of the movie is when:

The main theme starts playing, and the fast-paced hand drums in that song perfectly sync up with the sound coming from the helicopter rotors

Not really a spoiler, but still a cool moment IMO.

Double Toasted reviewed the movie, here's what they gave it:

Korey, Martin and Sammy gave it a Full Price while Jake gave it a Better than Sex

Really? I thought there is some resemblance, it can take me a second or two in close ups to figure out which one it is if they don't say anything.
They both just look like beautiful white women to me lol

I haven't seen the movie so maybe their makeup is more similar there?

None of my friends want to watch this for whatever reason. I dont think this franchise elicits that much excitement from the general public. Guess I'm watching alone

TCM delivers yet again. It's taken far too long but it's nice to see his rep has taken a 180 with a lot of the public over the past 5-10 years.
