Is the word still that Sony's going to release a demo to the public? I just want to see the movement of Spider-man and how it feels

Huh. Well, the bit about Shocker's boss fight being tougher than it looks is certainly promising.

About the car chase animations, hopefully it's like the finisher animations where they only picked a select few to show for this demo.

Brandon said there are different ways to stop a car....
So I guess there will be plenty of finisher animations.

They should definitely add that to the sequel. Some type of GTA/RDR "Wanted" level where you can play and swing as Peter but the higher your "Wanted" or "Noticed" level in this case rises the closer you are to having your secret identity exposed, and then game over.

The functionality of that would be maybe it's advantageous to play Peter if you want to be stealthy, need to head to the Bugle, etc., and not walk around like "Hey, I'm Spider-Man." The offside of course is when you are Peter you can't get to places as quickly because if you go swinging around your "Noticed" level will rise.
Interesting. But probably would cause them to have to add to many Peter Parker stuff in the world that just isnt fun after the initial novelty wears off.

I question if they have too many Peter Parker segments already. Uncharted is a good example, sometimes it's cool, sometimes it's not

They could play it like Persona where you have to make decisions with your time and have to build up relationships with different characters. Does Peter make MJ happy by not being late to their date or does he stop a bank robbery and take a hit to their relationship? Stuff like that could be really cool.

Havent played Persona. I should get on that.

But like I said, sounds like something that sounds good in theory but not in practice. If it was really fleshed out for sure

I'm a bigger fan of Spider-Man 2 than most but I think that everyone holding the web swinging in that game up on such a high pedestal should really replay that game sometime.

The physics are still impressive but it has plenty of flaws. The camera is way too far away from Spider-Man, for one thing. The Amazing Spider-Man games had really basic web swinging but they nailed the camera. You get such an awesome sense of momentum and even vertigo when Spider-Man isn't an ant on the screen. The trick system is also really dated. You unlock new tricks to perform in the air but they always go in the same sequence which is just silly. Animations based on Spider-Man's movement and momentum are just more natural and nice to look at. And while it's cool to have something challenging to master, you'll still be bumping into walls and swinging into the ground after hours of playtime. All of these issues combine to create a much larger issue... you don't feel like Spider-Man. The camera, the stilted trick animations, and the unforgiving physics... you just don't feel like Spider-Man should feel.

I still go back and play Spider-Man 2 on a yearly basis and I still love it. But it's not as perfect as some people make it sound. Ultimate Spider-Man, Web of Shadows, and even The Amazing Spider-Man games all contain some big improvements over aspects of Spider-Man 2's swinging. Insomniac's game seems to be incorporating a lot of the best aspects from all of these games. Webs attach to buildings reliably for the first time since Ultimate Spider-Man. It is physics based like Spider-Man 2 even if the physics are more forgiving. It incorporates the transitional animations found in the later games, especially Web of Shadows. It has the web rush system from the Amazing games, which was always a great idea. And a camera that is much closer to Spider-Man like the one also found in the Amazing games. It might not top Spider-Man 2's physics in terms of difficulty but I really feel like this game combines all of the right elements from past games in order to make you feel like Spider-Man.

This might dethrone Batman as the best video game super hero game. I'm excited and it's releasing 2 days before my birthday. I got that week off so I'm going be swinging around insomniacs New York

I really hope this is their big break, Insomniac have made some of my favorite games and games I just found fun as hell this and last gen.

Feel the same way, unfortunately DQXI has gotta wait as it'll take too much time away from studies. Pubs need to take advantage of July and August more.
Agreed with both points.

I hope this propels Insomniac to an entirely different level in the industry.

And yeah, I am really hyped for DQXI (3rd most anticipated game for the year), but it comes out too close to my 2nd most anticipated game of the year (Spidey).

Cant wait for this! So glad I was able to pre-order the Spider-Man PS4 Pro.

Really like the sound of those Random Crimes impressions. The Arkham games were so good, but the one thing that always bothered me was the lack of pedestrians. The city in Spider-man looks like its actually alive. Insomniac totally deserves this win with this game. Hope this does really well for them.

I just hope there will be enough variety in the random crimes/events and side quests, that it doesnt just become a repetitive loop of 4-5 side quests.

----

Do we know if the game will have a "Day in the life of" type story, where everything happens over the course of like 12-24 hours? Or will we have a day/night cycle?

The time of day is set depending where you are in the story but you'll get control of it after you beat the game.

Oh thats pretty cool. I always had a problem with the Day in the life of storytelling the Arkham games all used, just due to the fact that you could spend 30+ hours doing things all in just 1 night lol.

Tobey?
Campbell?
In what world are you guys living in? They've had nothing to do with the franchise for over 10 years, time to move on.

I think it sounds good in both theory and practice. I know you haven't played Persona, but you'll see if you ever get around to it. Sure it sucks to have to make an either/or decision and you always wish you could do both, but that is the crux of the game isn't it?

Now we're way off base here because there's nothing to suggest this game is or ever will be an RPG with those type of elements, we're just spitballing ways to incorporate Peter and having the option to be Peter or Spider-Man based on the situation.

We're just talking because we hate having to wait over a month lol.
