I'm surprised it doesn't have a re-release on current gen consoles.

4K 144 FPS

FUCK ME

NANOMACHINES SON

Also best track from the OST:

I don't even know how I did it but I managed to get my classmate to watch a YouTube video of all the cutscenes of the game which was like over two hours. I feel so bad thinking about it now. I have no idea why I did that; she doesn't even like games that much. But she did it and we're still good friends so it couldn't have been that bad.

Off topic, but I made a girlfriend watch an Early SCII replay of mine because I was so pumped I made it into the Gold League. She didn't play RTS games so she didn't realize how much effort goes into them so I thought it would be a good idea to show her my Terran Biomech Micro.

But that wasn't the main reason she came over that day so it worked out.

Played it when it came out on PS3, couldn't get into it. Picked it up when it came out for PC a year later and beat it twice, but haven't touched the DLC to this day. The Monsoon battle was my favorite part of the game, though I also enjoyed fighting Mistral quite a bit. Overall, I thought the game was okay. Wouldn't say I love it, but I definitely liked it. I would have preferred to see MGR bridge Raiden's transformation between MGS2 and MGS4, a la the original concept, but what we got was fine, even though I have almost no recollection of what actually happened nor why it happened. Rising doesn't have many "low points," apart from some forced walking here and there, and some of the highs are pretty spectacular— and that's generally a recipe for success. I'll have to go back and replay it again one of these days.

This game was made on the quick with a lower budget than most and has the greatest boss lineup of any character action game in history.

Fucking bravo Platinum. I will never forget this amazing game.

My favorite Metal Gear. The story went full on camp and it was glorious.

I'd also like to point out that they made the most quotable game of all time.

An absolutely fantastic game that still holds up well today. It's also my favorite Metal Gear game.

I'll be real, when it was first announced I snubbed my nose at it. I mean at the time I thought it was a "spin off" as by the books as they come. When I heard Platinum took the reigns I INSTANTLY did a double take. I really liked it in a cheezy b movie sort of way. Sure it doesn't add anything to the overall world but it's one HELL of a ride.

honestly thought the game wasn't good and only played it because of plus. Game is ridiculously short, the generic enemies are all the same and the gameplay it self is quite simplistic and easy. The only challenge and good part of the game was the last boss including the accompanied cut scenes.

also the power levels of raiden and cyborgs are ridiculous. solid snake could fist fight grey fox cybrog, but raiden can pick up and throw a metal gear ray.

I am playing it now on the X with BC. Its oke. I think the over the top visuals and it being a last gen game really makes it difficult sometimes to see whats going on and act on things. I still cant get the grips on the parry stuff. I know how it works but just feel odd to do for some reason. Also the dodge is a weird thing. I read that was they first thing that you need to buy because its very good. Yet i am not really using it. Hitting two buttons at the same time to dodge feels weird and it doesnt really feel like a real dodge.

And we still have the giant Raiden Mural up in Leeds.

It's necessary to avoid the few attacks that you can't parry, like the throws ("yellow" attacks). Most of the time you should be parrying like crazy, though.

Five years and still no game has come close to eclipsing the greatest video game soundtrack ever composed. Though if DMC5 has another half dozen bangers like Devil Trigger it might stand a chance.

In conclusion:

Important about the dodge. Two buttons and a direction. Raiden is invulnerable for the first part of the dodge. When his feet touch the ground again, he becomes vulnerable. When you see enemies with unblockable attacks, signified by a bright yellow flash instead of a red one, you need to dodge. And you can cancel out of any ground attack to dodge, if I remember right.

As for the parry, remember that parrying early is better than parrying late and that you have to parry every single hit individually. So if a boss does a long combo string on you, you have to parry each hit.

Man, Remember that post credit tease, that tease is probably dead now. :(

I'm probably going to play it for a third time, getting that speed run down.

The first time playing I got constantly stun locked, sucking at te parrying but once It clicked, the parrying is so damn good and satisfying, you can just plow through the game.

I played it for the first time a couple of months ago. It's fun, but lacks some polish. I got to the final boss, tried him 6 or 7 times and turned it off forever. Somebody on here clued me in that you can slide under his one hit kill rock throw, since the blad slice mode is too unreliable, but I think it's been too long now and I don't care anymore. Don't really understand why people think that boss fight is so good tbh.

Btw this game is a great example to use when people say when a new game releases "It looks like a last gen game"
You can then show this game. Its a 2013 game just before a new gen started and one of the better looking ones. That will shut them up haha.

As a MGS mega fan I kinda went into this thinking I was gonna hate it. But I loved it. It's so ludicrous in so many ways and/but the gameplay systems in it are just so damn fun. Felt like it was in development forever. So glad I gave it a chance. Ended up adoring it.

It's such a shame that this will never likely never get a follow up. I would love to see Platinum iterate on this, without the baggage of trying to salvage the mess of the original concept.

One of my favourite games on PS3. Loved it to bits. Short but had the replay value I wanted, instead of being an overly long 20+hour snooze. Reviews kept bringing it's short length up as a negative, but it was perfect for me. Lots to learn, mechanically, and it was just always fun.. except when the gorillas go ballistic and spaz out the camera (especially on one of those late VR Missions).

Thought you could fool me, thread was randomly bumped from half a year ago!

I was going to say, feels like much longer than 5 years. Turns out it was five and a half years, I KNEW IT.

...and I still have never played it. I somehow totally ignored this game as some cash grab spin-off early on, then read it was actually good, continued to ignore it somehow and here we are.

PC isn't an option for me so I assume PS3 it is? Does anyone know if the DS4 controller works with this when coupled with PS3? Don't have the DS3 anymore and some games don't seem to work.

I assume I should buy this, eh?

Bought this a long time ago and has become a part of my back catalog :( I hope that when I get to it, it wont feel outdated. Has anyone played it for the first time recently? Does it feel dated?
