Good content as always, IMO the DLC quests related with specific Blades are the best sidequests from the game, happy to see more of them. I'm wondering if some of the new costume rewards are not re-colors, but I'm not expecting anything great tbh.

I hope that the patch includes some nice fixes, the last update showing the unique monster names in the graves is great IMO, and the game has plenty of things that can be improved.

Wasn't there a leak that showed we'd be able to customize the settings to make the monsters easier or harder to kill?

Is this that update? It's locked behind the season pass?

In the end it's a key point of the game's design. Just like the weapon breaking hasn't been removed from BotW even if some dislike it.

Is it really a key point? Nothing would have been lost if ALL of the rare blades were found through quests placed all throughout the world. At the end of the day it's just a random number generator to let you get a non common blade at random. Hell as I see it, removing common blades all together and more evenly distributing special skills to the rare blades makes the skill check system less of a hassle too.

In short, no. I dont think XC2's gatcha system is as integral as BotW's weapon durability.

Except weapon durability makes a ton of sense within BotW game design. Removing it would break the game entirely.

Heavily altering the blade procurement mechanism would hardly impact most of Xenoblade 2's experience.

Even most of the progression mechanisms would still work the same (grind those affinities).

I mean it'd be less shitty and all, but we don't want that do we?

Edit:

Great minds thing alike.

Not that what we're thinking is so out of this world, mind you. But still.

I'd argue it's important for the game design to make the Merch Mission design work. If rare blades didn't come from the gacha, you'd only pull for normal blades, that are important for merch missions but hardly something fun to pull for. Instead the gacha also has rare blades, which means you get a lot of common blades, so that becomes a side thing to work with while you work on getting all the rare blades. As you improve in merch missions you can also start to optimize what common blades you keep.

Only flaw with the system imo is that the rate to get rare blades decreases over time. It should really be a set %.

I didn't mind getting all blades in Xenoblade 2, but weapon durabiility in BOTW made all fights in that game not fun. So I think it's still a matter of opinion. You don't need all blades during your main story run, you can get stuff post-game way more easily.

I don't care about improving the gacha system in any other way, but I really hope they increase the odds of getting Kos-Mos. It's honestly just frustrating at this point.

Xc2's gacha system is bad, yeah, as other Blade-related systems (field skills, Blade menus...). I think that Monolith tried to make a game that offers a different experience to all the players, you obtain different Blades and your experience is slightly different compared to your friends, but the best sidequests in the game are locked behind obtaining some rare Blades. The field cheks can be completed using common blades, so there's no problem here IMO.

Aside from the QoL problems like the map or the menus, they didn't test enough the Blade system to see that some ideas were bad, it's really strange that they did this kind of mistake after XcX, that had too lots of QoL stupid problems like the need of going to specific places to change the time of day or the party members.

fucked up that patch stuff is gated behind an expansion pass. At least bring the difficulty slider...

I'm seeing some rare blade screenshots with prior dates(May 5th & March 30th) on the website. Did they released quests for those back then? Because I sure as hell haven't seen them yet and there is not any more "?" on any maps for new quests. And I've beaten the last boss and have all rare blades.

Still no option to bypass the shitty gatcha system?

That's a shame.

I learned that there's a "pity system" where you are guaranteed to get a unique blade after you got a certain amount of common blades. IIRC a common crystal is 5 points, a rare one is 10 and legendary is 20 points. After every unique drop the counter resets.

If you bond (example) 20 common core core crystals you are guaranteed to get a unique, so the trick is to wait until you have a bunch of core crystals. Bonding them one by one can be frustratring.

You only get 3 blades via pity though.

The common blades has a ton of amazing skills so naw, removing them would not be a good thing.

Good or bad the gacha is woven into the story. It would be difficult to write it out.

They should have added Mechanical Rhythm if you do battle with Shulk & Fiora while inside the World Tree. But I'll take what I can get.

Lol at a French guy I won't name whose translations are always absolute jokes who wrote an article saying :
"An option in the settings will set the name of a unique monster to you will know our names".

And it makes even less sense in french.
Priceless.

Still no KOS-MOS, playing the game is a chore and Elma is supposed to come. How can I even find the time between Octopath and soon Saga Scarlet Grace to play, grind and be sad in Xenonlade 2 ?
It might have to wait for September or even later.

when Elma gets added to the game

So I finished the game and most quests but didn't have expansion pass. Also missing a few blades.

Is starting a new game plus a good way to experience the dlc?

I dont have to do quest blades all over again right?

I figured on my second playthrough I could finish up uncompleted quests, get missing blades, and play new content. Also continue leveling up.

Where is challenge mode unlocked?

Can't wait for this game to be "finished" so I finally continue my 8 hour save file.

The game has so much content it's more finished than 99,9% of all games in the world. There's nor reason to wait. You will play a few hundred hours if you want to make use of everything in the game (Rare blades, DLCs, Sidequests etc.) and see everything.

So I guess this isn't the update that will add
Elma
?

Elma, along with a new Blade named Kamuya, is coming in the 1.5.2 update. It is likely to come out in mid to late August. The data miners are anticipating more information after 1.5.1 comes out tonight.

Ugh, I can't believe they are locking that difficulty modifier behind the season pass. That's a huge bummer.

I'm playing several 50+ hour jrpgs at the moment that are not Xenoblade 2, I'd prefer to wait till this game is complete and it gives me an excuse to focus on those too, it's as simple as that and it's not a big deal.
