I can see why people might not want to label themselves as "male" or "female" (whether just on this board or IRL). Would Resettlers be more willing to provide a pronoun (such as "they") to allow for ease of conversation? Is there concern that having an open entry field would result in troll responses? Would he/she/they/unspecified options be reasonable in that case?

To avoid misgendering others, I default to referring to other posters in as gender-neutral terms as possible (repeating username, "OP", "the poster", and on occasion, they/them), but the end result ends up stilted.

Send me straight to the moon if this has been discussed in another thread.

Sure, but that's not something I'm likely to ever check. I just default to "they/them" unless I happen to know what they go by.

Sure, I agree.

On an unrelated note, I signed a new lease at a different place and there were preferred pronouns on it. It was neat to see progress.

Probably good in theory but it might open the door for some assholes to subtly troll and claim ignorance.

Umm am I missing anything? Being serious here not sarcastic. What's "they/them"? :/

I always figured "gender" by default is completely ruled by "prefered pronouns" regardless if you're cis, trans or somewhere in the middle.

But, having the option seems like a good idea if it makes people feel better.

The idea is that the 3 options are in place because by choosing male or female you're acknowledging what your preferred pronouns are.

Tho i do guess choosing neither does very little for people who prefer Them/They.

I think this is a great idea.

Also, a script to auto-ban anyone who puts "attack helicopter".

We appreciate the suggestion, but this is baked into our forum software (Xenforo) and not something we can change.
